The conflict ( 冲 突 ) between Russia and Ukraine itself may be a questionable topic, yet it is the people who suffer the most. More than 4 million Ukrainians had fled from their homeland one month after it began. It was the biggest migration (移民) wave since World War II.
I wanted to help by being a volunteer. However, it was difficult because
I don’t speak Russian or Ukrainian. Luckily, after searching on the Internet, I was finally able to sign up to volunteer in a modern gallery called Svetova 1.
The gallery is owned by an overseas Chinese in Prague, Czech Republic, and had over 40 volunteers to provide 24/7 aid to the Ukrainian refugees (难民). During a two-week intensive (集中的) aid program, the gallery provided a place to live and food for up to five people for free and also served as a safe and interesting space for children, where English classes, games and other fun activities were organized.
Due to my busy school and work schedule, I was only able to volunteer there twice. But, besides the owner and his family, I was the first Chinese volunteer. My role was to help the refugees fill out registration ( 登 记 ) papers. Sometimes, it was difficult with the language barrier, but there were translators to help.
I was so impressed by one Ukrainian mother and her two kids, who still had such kind smiles and bright eyes, despite all the awful things they must have experienced. Some other people may not be able to easily understand their feelings, but I really valued this chance to be with those people in need, doing what I could. Because we are all humans, we should come together in difficult times. ( ) 24.Why was it difficult for the writer to be a volunteer?
A. Because the writer didn’t know what to prepare.
B. Because the writer’s parents didn’t support the idea.
C. Because the writer speaks neither Russian nor Ukrainian.
D. Because there was a problem with the writer’s Internet connection.
( ) 25. According to Paragraph 1, which sentence of the following is RIGHT?
A. The conflict is worse than World War II.
B. More than 4 million Russians left their homeland.
C. People in Ukraine have suffered a lot in the conflict.
D. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine lasted one month.
( ) 26. Paragraph 3 is mainly about_____________.
A. how the gallery trained its volunteers
B. what volunteers needed to do to help refugees
C. how the writer became a volunteer at Svetova l
D. what the gallery did to help refugees from Ukraine. C
If you’re working to become better or hoping to make a change, you’ll probably hear your family and friends say “ go big or go home’’ . They think you should set high expectations. But is it really good?
Having high expectations could be good. It can motivate you. When you have high expectations for something, you’ll probably try your best to make them come true. For example, if you believe that you can get an A in a test, you will probably spend a lot of time working on it. Also, when you start meeting your expectations, you’ll set even higher expectations for yourself. Besides, having high expectations on yourself doesn’t only do you good. It will make a difference to others.
But if your expectations are too high to realize, it can be bad. Having high expectations can sometimes lead to mind problems, such as worry and unhappiness. The findings of a study showed that some students were under serious stress because they wanted to be perfect. Great expectations can also let you down. This is especially true when you set expectations on other people whose actions you cannot control. For example, if you’re feeling alone and you call up your friends, you surely expect them to make you feel better. When this fails to happen, you will feel down and unsatisfied with your friends. To avoid this situation, you should set your expectations realistically (切合实际地).
It is hard to manage expectations, but the main thing is to set a more realistic and achievable expectation.

A. To cheer others up. B. To go home at once.

B. Their study results were terrible.
C. Their friends didn’t care about them.

A. By calling up your friends.
B. By controlling their actions.
C. By making others feel better.

A. Right views on Setting Expectations.
B. Valuable Advice on Realizing Expectations.
C. Possible Reasons for Meeting Expectations.
D. Serious Problems in Achieving Expectations.
D
He was the only gray cub (狼崽) of the she-wolf. The other cubs had red in their hair. He was gray like his father. He was the strongest cub. He showed more anger than his brothers and sisters. He made more noises.
He was a carnivorous animal. He came of a breed of meat-killers and meat-eaters. His father and mother lived wholly upon meat. In his first months of life, he lived on mother’s milk, which was transformed directly from meat. And now, at a month old, when his eyes had been open for but a week, he was beginning himself to
eat meat.
There came a time when there was no meat. For many days the cubs did not eat. They were too weak and tired to play. One-Eye, the cub’s father, was killed in the fight over food. Even the she-wolf left the cave to find meat, but there was nothing. One by one, the cubs died. Only the she-wolf and the gray cub were left.
One day, the gray cub ran out of the cave to hunt for his own food. He met a weasel (黄鼠狼) of his size. The rat-like animal ran at him and bit his throat. He was nearly dead when the she-wolf arrived just in time to kill and eat it.
The gray cub was not good at hunting yet, and still needed food from his mother. One day, the she-wolf brought him a lynx (猞猁) kitten. While eating, he heard great noise. The kitten’s mother had followed the she-wolf here. The she-wolf and the she-lynx started to fight, and they would fight to the
death. The bite was enough to give the she-wolf the chance she needed. The lynx was dead,
but the she-wolf was badly hurt. For a week, she did not move. The gray cub had to find food for both of them.
Without his mother to take care of him, he learnt what life was about. Without meat there was no life. Animals had to eat other animals to survive. The law was: EAT OR BE EATEN.

五、读写综合 (计 30 分)
( 一) 阅读并回答问题。(共 5 题,每小题 2 分,计 10 分)
Social media (社交媒体) is certainly an interesting place to learn others’ opinions. You can read everything from strange ideas to facts and everything in between. But when you’re spending time online and reading so many opinions, it’s quite possible that you’ll sometimes see someone write something that you strongly disagree with.
In fact, you might feel so strongly that you feel like you should reply to this person at once. You might do some research, find some facts of your own and then reply to what they’ve written. You finish writing out your reply and click “Post” to win the argument (争论)!
Except that it’s not really much of a victory. Most people don’t like it when other people disagree with their ideas, especially online strangers. It’s unlikely that they will change their opinion just because you argued with them. In fact, it’s possible that you made them feel more confident that they’re correct.
And the thing is, when you get in these kinds of fights online, it slowly influences you. You might not know it at first, but the argument that you take part in can actually have a bad influence on your mood. If you argue often, you start to enjoy arguing and then end up doing it even more. It’s a dangerous cycle.
I guess the best thing to do is to tell yourself that most arguments aren’t worth it. There are much better and more interesting things to do, whether online or in real life.

62. Why do people reply at once when they disagree with others?______________________________
