Organic(有机的)farming is a wonderful try for anyone who would like to grow beautiful and tasty vegetables on their own land in an environmentally friendly way. Farmers must use natural methods to make plants grow strong, protect them from insects(昆虫)and remove weeds(杂草)in the land.
Fertilizers(肥料)are chemicals that makes plants grow better. If a farmer grows the same plant over and over in the same place, the soil will lose its ability to feed the plant. The farmer must add fertilizer to help the soil. Organic farmers do not add fertilizer. They will use animal manure(粪肥)and plant compost(混合肥)to make the soil rich again.
Pesticides(杀虫剂)are also avoided. These are chemicals that kill pests(害虫)like bad insects or animals. Organic farmers have other ways to deal with pests because pesticides kill good animals and insects that protect the plants. Foxes and snakes eat the mice. Some insects like ladybirds eat the bad insects.
And of course there are weeds. These are the plants that farmers do not want because they steal growing space from the good plants. To stop weeds, organic farmers can scrape(翻)the soil several times. Finally, the weeds will die.
Organic farming usually needs a lot of human labour to do the job of chemicals. This is one reason that organic food costs more. But when we think about the health of the earth, its plants, and its animals, perhaps it is worth it. In the end, a healthy planet means that we will be healthy, too.
38. The characteristic of organic farming is that there is no ________.
A. chemical B. weed C. pest D. human labor
39. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Organic food is usually more expensive than common food.
B. Organic farmers put animal manure on the land.
C. Pesticides can kill both pests and good animals and insects.
D. Scraping the soil is avoided by organic farming.
40. The best title of the passage is _________.
A. Organic Farming B. Organic Farmers C. Organic Food D. Organic Fertilizers

The traditional Chinese lunar calendar(阴历)divides a year into 24 solar terms(节气). Clear and Bright(清明), the 5th solar term, starts on April 5 and ends on April 19 this year.
Of all the 24 solar terms, Clear and Bright is the only one whose first day is also a traditional Chinese festival, Qingming Festival or Tomb-Sweeping Day. The words “clear” and “bright” describe the weather during this period. Temperatures begin to rise and rainfall increases, making it an important time for plowing(耕)and sowing(播种)in the spring.
Clear and Bright is a period when Chinese people show respect for nature and the ancestors(祖先)of the Chinese nation. As a result, cleaning the tombs is an important practice to remember the dead.
In many parts of China, eating eggs during Tomb-Sweeping Day is as important as eating moon cakes at Mid-Autumn Festival. People believe that eating an egg on Tomb-Sweeping Day will bring good health all year. In China, this custom has lasted for thousands of years.
The origin of eating eggs dates back to “Shangsi Jie”(a traditional Chinese festival). In ancient times, women who want to have babies after marriage often colored boiled eggs with different colors and put them into the river, and people living in the lower reaches of the river picked the eggs up and ate them. It was said that the more eggs were eaten, the greater the chance the woman will have a baby. Today, people believe that eating eggs on Tomb-Sweeping Day will also bring success.

Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China. The warm environment makes it a key habitat(栖息地)and wintering ground for the Siberian crane and other rare waterfowl(水鸟). About 310 species(物种)of birds live in the lake.
Every winter, Siberian cranes migrate(迁徙)from northeast Siberia in Russia to Poyang Lake in Jiangxi province, China. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season there. However, climate change has endangered the birds’ habitats.
“In some years, the Poyang Lake experiences floods, while in others, it experiences droughts(干旱). Both of these create food shortages(短缺)in the cranes` habitat,” Qian Fawen, a researcher from the National Bird Banding Center of China, told China Daily.
To help deal with the problem, the local government has built 70 hectares(公顷)of lotus roots(莲藕)in Nanchang to provide the cranes with food during the winter. There are more than 5,000 Siberian cranes now.
Over the years, China has worked hard to protect migratory(迁徙的)birds and wetlands. The Wetlands Protection Law was introduced on June 1, 2022. It stops building work on important national wetlands and bans(禁止)activities such as overgrazing(过度放牧)and giving out waste water.
Because of these efforts, China has reported more birds wintering in the nation`s wetlands. In February, black-faced spoonbills(黑脸琵鹭), an endangered species, were seen wintering at Dongting Lake after disappearing for five years. Last December, Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve recorded more than 2,900 tundra swans(小天鹅)up from some 1,000 seen during the winter of 2021.
根据上面短文内容填空。
