Dorothy lived in the Kansas Prairies with Uncle Henry, a farmer, and Aunt Em, Henry’s wife. They worked hard all day and never smiled. Their house was small with a small hole dug in the ground, where the family could go in case cyclones(龙卷风)happened.
They had a dog called Toto whom Dorothy always played with. Today, however, they were not playing. Uncle Henry sat upon the doorstep and looked worriedly. Dorothy stood in the door with Toto in her arms. Aunt Em was washing the dishes.
They heard a low wail of the wind, and Uncle Henry and Dorothy could see where the long grass bowed in waves before the coming storm.
Suddenly Uncle Henry stood up.
“There’s a cyclone coming, Em” he said. “I’ll go look after my cows and horses.” Then he ran toward the place where they were kept.
Aunt Em dropped her work and came to the door. “Quick, Dorothy!” she shouted. “Run for the hole!”
Toto jumped out of Dorothy’s arms and hid under the bed, and the girl started to get it. Aunt Em opened the door in the floor and climbed down into the small, dark hole. Dorothy caught Toto at last and started to follow her aunt. When she was halfway across the room, there came a strong wind. The house shook so hard that she lost her footing and fell down on the floor.

In Britain, Boxing Day is usually celebrated on December 26th, which is the following day after Christmas Day. However, strictly speaking, Boxing Day is the first weekday after Christmas. Like Christmas Day, Boxing Day is a public holiday. This means it’s a non-working day in the whole of Britain. When Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is the public holiday.
The exact origin(起源)of the holiday is unclear. One of the thoughts is that during the Middle Ages’ when great sailing ships were setting off to discover new land, a Christmas Box was placed by a priest(神父)on each ship. Those sailors who wanted to ensure a safe return would drop money into the box. It was locked and kept on board until the ship came home safely. Then the box was handed over to the priest in the exchange for the saying of a mass of thanks for the success of the sailing. The priest wouldn’t open it to share the contents with the poor until Christmas.
One more thought is about the “Alms Box” placed in every church on Christmas Day. Worshippers(做礼拜的人)put gifts for the poor into it. These boxes were always opened the day after Christmas, and that is why that day became known as Boxing Day.
Today, many businesses, organizations and families try to keep the traditional spirit of Boxing Day alive by donating their time services and money to aid Food Banks, providing gifts for the poor, or helping families in need. Besides, spending time with family and shopping are popular Boxing Day activities now.

C.spending time with family and shopping D.giving money to aid Food Banks

Do you ever find yourself sitting down to work on a project for your job, study for an important test, or even just get some simple things done, but find yourself almost immediately caught in social media for hours at a time? While providing plenty of fun, social media can, unfortunately, stop us from focusing on business.
Losing focus can be a result of a distracting environment—not preparing yourself mentally for your work, or not having the right systems in place to make sure you stay on task. Luckily, focusing is something we can learn and practise. There are many simple things you can do right away to start seeing results.
First, prepare by writing out your to do list the night before. If you know you’re going to need to focus for a long period of time the next day, take a few minutes to write down a list of all the tasks that you want to complete. Make sure this list is as specific as possible. For example, instead of simply writing down “study Spanish”, write down something like “memorize 20 Spanish words”.
Next, make sure you get enough sleep. Poor sleep can make it difficult to complete anything. Your mind doesn’t have the energy it needs for long periods of focus. If you really have to focus on a project even though you’re running on low sleep, try taking 10-minute naps in-between tasks so you can start to get back some of your energy.
Your environment is also important when it comes to helping you focus. More outgoing people may focus well in a coffee shop with other people around. While others may prefer the quiet of their home office. Have a clean workspace. Remove any projects or items that don’t have to do with what you’re immediately working on. Perhaps most importantly: turn off your phone and place it in another room. Like they always say: “Out of sight, out of mind.”
Keep working on focusing for extended periods of time, and you’ll eventually work your way up to be able to focus for quite a long time. Just remember that focusing for too long isn’t always the best idea. Take breaks, stay healthy, and you’ll find yourself focusing like a doctor in operation.
33.How does the writer introduce the topic?
A.By listing numbers. B.By giving an example.
C.By drawing graphs. D.By making comparison.
34.Which of the following may help you focus better on your work?
A.Writing down on the list what you have done. B.Taking a short running in between.
C.Working in a coffee shop. D.Put away unnecessary objects.
35.What does the underlined sentence mean in Paragraph 5?
A.Better late than never. B.You will be anxious if the thing is not around you.
C.We can’t live without phones. D.Thing not seen is easily forgotten.
36.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.How to stop losing focus. B.The dangers of social media.
C.Keep away from social media. D.Keep working on focusing.
