China is one of the largest cotton producers in the world. In 2020, China produced(生产)more than 5,910,000 tons of cotton (from National Bureau of Statistics 国家统计局), almost 3,000,000 tons more than America, the third largest cotton producer. Most of China’s best cotton come from Xinjiang. In 2019, Xinjiang produced 5,160,000 tons of cotton, almost 87% of the whole country.
Why can Xinjiang grow the best cotton? Because cotton needs lots of heat and plenty of sunshine to grow. And Xinjiang has lots of sunshine—about 3,000 hours every year. Long-stapled cotton (长绒棉) is the most famous cotton in Xinjiang. It’s also one of the best kinds of cotton in the world.
Its fibers are longer, softer and whiter than those of other cotton. And it’s warm and comfortable. So it’s good for making cloth and quilts.
Every year, after the harvest season, the fresh cotton goes to the textile factories (纺织厂) nearby. There, the cotton is made into cloth and quilts.
9.How many tons of cotton did China produce in 2020?

10.Which is necessary for the growing of cotton?
A.Water and air. B.Heat and water C.Heat and sunshine. D.Water and sunshine.
11.What does the underlined phrase “plenty of” mean?
A.many B.lots of C.a little (一点) D.a few

(2022·江苏·南京市科利华中学七年级期中)If you look at the top of your phone, you’ll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The “G” stands for the “generation” of your mobile network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive.
On March 30th, 2019, Shanghai vice-mayor(副市长)Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X smart phone, CGTN reported. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G metworks.
About 100 times faster than 4G networks. 5G will let people download and upload data faster than ever before. But 5G won’t just bring faster mobile Internet. People can use it for many other things as well.
For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today’s self-driving test cars have one problem—lag. When the car “sees” an obstacle(障碍物), it sends the information to a data center and receives instructions. However, it takes time to send and receive information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don’t receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer, according to CNN.
5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things(IoT 物联网). This refers to a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to develop this technology.
The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically(自动地)place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. What happened to the swallow at last?
13.We can know from the passage that 5G ________.
A.has been firstly tested in Beijing
B.stands for the generation of your smart phone
C.can make the networks 100 times faster than 4G
D.will be fully used immediately
14.The writer uses self-driving cars as an example to ________.
A.explain how 5G’s fast speed can be helpful
B.explain how self-driving cars work
C.show us how advanced self-driving cars are
D.warn about the possible dangers of self-driving cars
15.According to the passage, the IoT is ________.
A.a robot that can do housework
B.an online store where you can buy anything
C.a large online network that connects things and people
D.a type of high-tech refrigerator

(2021·广东深圳·七年级期中)BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua)—China has completed feasibility studies of the fourth stage of its lunar (月球的) exploration program and is expected to build an international lunar research station on the moon’s south pole in the future, said Wu Weiren, the chief designer of China’s lunar exploration program.
In an interview with China Space News, Wu said that three missions are planned for the fourth stage of the lunar exploration program. The program includes taking back lunar samples from the south pole by Chang’e-6, a detailed survey of the moon’s south pole resources by Chang’e-7, and the testing of key technologies in preparation for the construction(建设) of the lunar research station by Chang’e-8.
Wu explained that there may be a polar day and night on the moon’s south pole, like Earth’s north and south poles. The moon’s rotation period is equal to its revolution period, both of which are 28 days. Therefore, there may be more than 180 consecutive(连续的) days of light on the moon’s south pole, which would be highly convenient for astronauts carrying out scientific research.
On Tuesday, China and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to build an international scientific research station on the moon.
Wu said that within the MOU framework, China and Russia would use their experience in space science, research and development, and their space equipment and technology. The two countries will jointly make a roadmap for the construction of an international lunar research station, carrying out close cooperation in the planning, demonstration, design, development, implementation and operation of the project, Wu noted.

“Hide me!” Hook says in a frightened voice. The pirates run to him and stand around him.
In fact, it isn’t the crocodile. It’s Peter! He’s coming to help them. Peter climbs on the ship and goes quietly into the cabin.

Then Hook has an idea.
“Let’s put the boys in the cabin!” he says, “They can fight the thing in there for us.”

One day, my master sells me to Squire Gordon. He lives with his family in a big house.
“You’re a beautiful horse,” he says. “You have a beautiful black coat. I shall call you Black Beauty.”
My master has two horses. One of them is Merrylegs. He is very friendly. The other is Ginger. She is not friendly.
Ginger tells me her master is not kind to her. Her master does not care about her.
One day in autumn Squire Gordon goes on a long journey. John goes with him. The weather is rainy and windy. Mr. Gordon and John can not see well in the rain. We come to a bridge. I stop. “Something is wrong,” I think, I do not want to go on to the bridge. Mr. Gordon and John want me to go on to the bridge. I do not move. Just then a man sees us. “Hey there! Stop!” he cries.
“What is it?” shouts the Squire.
“The bridge is broken in the middle.” he answers. “If you go on to it, you are all going to drown in the river.”
“Thank God!” says the Squire. “Thank you, Beauty!” says John. Then John says: “Black Beauty saves our lives. He knows the bridge is not safe.”
When we return home, the Squire tells Mrs. Gordon:
“We are all safe, thanks to Black Beauty!”
That night I am glad, but I am very tired.
