Hello, I’m Catherine. And this is my brother Gregory. He is eight years old and I am ten. We always look forward to the first big snow of the year.
On a snow day, Mom often makes hot dogs for us and we bake cakes. It is always something special when we have the first snow. Mom likes to make vegetable soup for us to eat. She says it helps to keep us warm when we play in the snow.
Gregory and I go outside early in the morning. The first thing we do is to make snow angels. Then we slide(滑动) down the hill on boxes with our friends. Finally, we spend the whole afternoon making our first snowman of the year.

A boy wrote to me, saying that he had a problem with his father. His father was nice, but very busy. He had nothing to talk about with his father. When they were together, it was often just silence. He asked me for advice.
Here is what I wrote back.
My first piece of advice is to tell your father everything you told me in your letter. But if you’re not brave(勇敢的), here are some tricks to start conversations(对话).
First, remember that everyone loves to talk about themselves. So ask your father something about himself. For example, ask him: “What’ s something you loved to do in your childhood? ” You will learn something about him and have a new topic(话题) to talk about next time.
Another way is to tell him about something bad that happened to you. Ask him about a time when he was troubled. You could change “troubled” to any other word- sad or unhappy
Here’s one more trick: You can find thousands of questions online. If your father asks why you have so many strange questions, tell him your English teacher shared them and you think they’re fun. I hope this gets your conversation started.

The library is a great place to visit for help with schoolwork. It opens up new worlds, makes you imagine, encourages reading and helps you in school and in life. But the library isn’t just about reading and learning. You can have fun in the library, too. Some libraries hold fun events for children, such as story telling, making things and book hunting. And when you go to your library, there is always someone there to help you find what you want. That someone is a librarian.
You can ask your librarian to help you find books about any subject that interests you. Libraries have books about everything from planes to zebras. If you like to read fiction, your librarian can suggest adventure books, fantasy books and many more. If you are having a hard time finding an answer to a question, ask your librarian to help you find the answer. Your librarian can help you locate (定位) information in magazines and newspapers, and on the computer.
Libraries are also great places to go if you want a quiet and relaxing place to read or study. They have areas with cozy chairs where you can curl up (蜷缩) and read a book. They also have tables and chairs where you can work on school reports. And most libraries have lots of bright reading areas, so you won’t hurt your eyes by closely looking at that small print.
