Most kids grow up learning they cannot draw on the walls. But it might be time to unlearn that training-this summer, a group of culture addicts, artists and community organizers are inviting New Yorkers to write all over the walls of an old house on Governors Island.
The project is called Writing On It All, and it’s a participatory(参与式) writing project and artistic experiment that has happened on Governor's Island every summer since 2013.
“Most of the participants are people who are just walking by or are on the island for other reasons, like they came for the jazz festival, or they just kind of happen to be there, ”artistic director of Writing On It All,Alexandra Chasin, tells Smithsonian. com.
The 2020 season runs through June 26.Each session(会期) has a theme, and participants are given a variety of materials and prompts and asked to cover surfaces with their thoughts and art This year, the programs range from one that turns the house into a short piece of collaborative(合作的) writing to one that explores the meaning of exile(流亡) .
Governor's Island is a national historic landmark district long used for military purposes. Now known as “New York's shared space for art and play, ”the island, which lies between Manhattan and Brooklyn in Upper New York Bay, is closed to cars but open to summer tourists who come for festivals, picnics, adventures, as well as these “legal graffiti” sessions.
The notes and art scribble on the walls are an experiment in self-expression. So far, participants have ranged in age from 2 to 85. Though Chasin says the focus of the work is on the activity of writing, rather than the text that ends up getting written, some of the work that comes out of the sessions has stuck with her.
“One of the sessions that moved me the most was state violence on black women and black girls,,” says Chasin, explaining that in the room, people wrote down the names of names of those killed because of it. “People do beautiful work and leave beautiful messages.”
    59. What does the project Writing ON It All invite people to do?

61.What kind of place is Governor's Island nowadays?

    C. It’s an area now accessible only to tourist vehicles.

If we look around us at the things we have bought at some point in our lives, we would no doubt notice that not everything we own is being put to good use:the thick woolen coat which we thought looked fashionable despite the fact that we live in a tropical(热带的) country, the smartphone that got put away when we bought ourselves the newest model, or even the guest room in our house that somehow got turned into a storeroom.
Those underutilized things may seem useless to some, but could be useful to others. With the coming of the Internet, online communities have figured out a way to generate profit from the sharing of those underused things. Using websites and social media groups that facilitate(促进) the buying and selling of second-hand goods, it is now easier than ever for sharing activities to take place. And this is known as the sharing economy.
These online platforms are providing a chance for people to make a quick buck or two. To give an example, busy parents e previously might not have bothered with setting up a stall(货摊) at the local market or car boot sale to sell their children's old stuff, bub with online marketplaces, parents are now able to sell on those hardly worn baby clothes that their children have outgrown and the expensive pushchairs and baby stuff they have bought, so as to put some cash back into their pockets.
Businesses have also caught on to the profitability of the sharing economy and are seeking to gain from making use of those underutilized resources. A business model that has rapidly risen in popularity sees companies providing an online platform that puts customers in contact with those who can provide a particular product or service. Companies like Airbnb act as a middleman for people to cash in on their unused rooms and houses and let them out as profitable accommodation (住所). Another example is Uber, encourages people to use their own personal cars as taxis to make some extra cash in their free time.
This move towards a sharing economy is not without criticisms. Unlike businesses, unregulated individuals do not to follow certain rules and this can lead to poorer and inconsistent quality od goods and services and a higher risk of cheating. Nevertheless, in the consumerist society we live in today, the increased opportunities to sell on our unwanted and underused goods can lead to a lesser impact on environment.
    63. What does the underlined word “underutilized” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
    A. Not being fashionable. B. Used.
    C. Not being used enough. D. Worn out.
    64. According to the author, which of the following is something that we might under use?
    A. The latest smartphone.
    B. The storeroom in our house.
    C. A thick coat in a cold country.
    D. Clothes our babies don't or can't wear anymore.
65.It might be a problem for unregulated individuals to sell to others because_____________.
    A. they have to follow certain rules
    B. they like to criticize their buyers
    C. they don't have a business permit
    D. they might sell lower-quality products
    66. Which would be the best title for this passage?
    A. The Consumerist Society
    B. Parents Who Need Money
    C. The Rise of the Sharing Economy
    D. Why We Buy Things We Don’t Need
    D
    Language Acquisition(习得)
Almost all humans acquire at least one language before the age of five. How do young children understand and produce complex sentences with complicated meanings? Do adults learn language differently from children? Most linguistic(语言学的) researchers agree that both nature and nurture(后天) are involved in language acquisition. They disagree, however, about how much linguistic knowledge children have from birth-and thus whether genetics or experience is more important in language acquisition.
For many linguists, biological factors are the most important in language learning. Some argue that some linguistic knowledge must exist in our brains from birth because children cannot possibly experience every feature of their language before the age of five. These linguists point out that nearly all children can produce the same kinds of complex sentence structures by the age of five, even without having heard them before.
Many researchers have theorized what this innate(先天的) linguistic knowledge must look like. One popular theory(理论) is universal grammar. This theory believes that all languages have the same basic structural foundation. That foundation is the innate knowledge universal to all
humans. While children are not genetically tending to speak a particular language, a universal grammar gives them certain linguistic information as a starting point, which allows them to readily acquire the rules and patterns of whichever language they are exposed to.
Not all linguists, however, believe that an inborn ability for language is the most important factor in language acquisition. These researchers place greater emphasis on the influence of usage and experience. They argue that children are exposed to a wealth of linguistic structures over the course of five years. They gather data and determine language patterns and structures from what they have observed.
Linguists on both sides of the debate are still working to explain the different language learning abilities of adults and children. Early childhood seems to be an important period for mastering certain aspects of language. Children also tend to have a heightened ability to learn second languages. While adults may have some advantages when studying in a formal classroom, they usually do not learn second languages. While adults may have some advantages when studying in a formal classroom, they usually do not learn as quickly and easily as children. Are these different abilities a result of differences in how adults and children are exposed to a new language? Are they the result of biological changes, or do both biology and experience come into play?
While our understanding of language acquisition is incomplete, this pursuit is well worth the effort. “We still don’t understand how a child learns its first language, why some children have language disorders, or how children and adults learn a second language,” explains Professor Joan Ma ling.
Explaining the process of language acquisition promises not only to help scientists answer these questions, but also to explain fundamental features of learning and the human brain.
67.What does the passage mainly talk about?
    A. The control of nurture over nature in language acquisition.
    B. The influence of universal grammar in language acquisition.
    C. The best methods for children and adults to acquire language.
    D. The role of biological and environmental factors in language acquisition.
    68. What’s the right order of the passage's summary?
    a. Studying language acquisition will help understand language and the brain better.
    b. Some experts focus on the role of environmental factors in language acquisition.
    c. Some experts believe innate factors explain children's language development.
    d. Acquiring a language is complicated, and it involves both nature and nurture.
    A. abcd B. dcba C. dbca D. adcb
    69. In Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3, the author wants to __________.
    A. present a general argument and then explain a specific theory
    B. present a specific theory and then propose a new study to prove it
    C. present a general argument and then disprove an opposite argument
    D. present a scientific debate and then discuss what all linguists agree on
    70. What is the author's purpose of writing Paragraph 5 and Paragraph 6?
    A. To raise open questions that all linguists have.
    B. To present two different viewpoints on language learning.
    C. To stress the importance of experience in language learning
    D. To introduce adult language acquisition and show why it's unpopular.
    第二节(共4小题;第1-2题每小题2分,第3-4每小题3分,共10分)
    阅读下面短文,根据短文内容在答题卡相应题号后的横线上写下相关信息,完成对该问题的回答。
Madeline’s family vacation to the beach was usually the highlight of her summer. This year, however, her parents announced a new rule:no phones allowed for the entire week. “No distractions(使人分心的事) , ”they said.
“But my friends will be expecting updates,” Madeline said.
“They’ll have to wait,” her mom said and opened a drawer. Madeline saw that her parents’ phones were already in it. Madeline had to drop her phone in, too.
The drive to the beach house took most of the day. That night after dinner, Madeline came into the kitchen, where her father was washing dishes.
    “Still hungry?” he asked.
“No,” she answered. “Couldn’t I have my phone back?”
“Can’t,” he said. “It’s not here. Remember? Check out the bookcase in the living room. Might find something you like.”
She walked into the living room and saw a jigsaw puzzle(拼图玩具)on the bookcase. She took it, put the pieces on the table, and began to sort them.
After what seemed like minutes, she looked up. It was past ten o’clock. She had been working for almost two hours! The puzzle was less than half done.
The next morning, a golden sun was rising over the blue ocean. The sky was cloudless. The view was wonderful. Madeline’s hand shot to the beside table, but there was nothing there.
That evening, Madeline lost herself in the jigsaw puzzle again. She felt a little excited every time the shapes met. Soon, the puzzle was complete.
She stepped back to enjoy the finished puzzle. The picture showed an old painting of several farmhands working in a brown field and there was a giant rainbow arching across the sky.
Madeline enjoyed the puzzle for a few minutes, trying to keep the image in her mind. Then, she quietly started taking it apart. That, she thought, was just for me.
    71. What’s the new rule for Madeline’s family vacation?
    72. How did Madeline feel about the new rule at first?
