高考英语外刊阅读模拟强化训练 七选五专题二十六 The worry was palpable this week: With D.C. under major air quality warnings due to massive wildfires in Canada, is it okay for kids to go to school? Should everyone be wearing masks? As a writer who covers climate change, it seems clear to me that during an event like this, there are a number of things everybody should know:Do your best to seal your house. It doesn’t just protect on days of poor air quality — it saves energy. When I got home and started to secure my house, I found the air quality levels weren’t terrible but weren’t always great, either. ____1____Levels were even higher in the basement of the house.I quickly found some potential culprits. _____2___This took about five minutes to fix. In my basement, the worst room in the house was the sole one that featured a window air-conditioning unit. I took it out and closed and latched the window. Measurements slowly began to get better.____3_____Which is not to say it’s easy or straightforward. We’re told to ventilate our houses when cooking, especially if we have gas stoves, and when we have a lot of people over. Then we get a wildfire smoke event, and suddenly the same houses need to be well-sealed. It’s no wonder that people often find indoor air quality measures confusing.Don’t think of this as a single eventExperts today are simultaneously predicting future pandemics and worsening climate change. ___4____In this context, it seems pretty clear that air purifiers with HEPA filters and other measures are going to become increasingly common, like masks — which also, when of high quality and worn properly, help protect against wildfire smoke inhalation. The massive blazes will still be episodic events, hard to predict very far in advance and temporary in how they afflict us. But high-quality filters simultaneously remove pollution from other sources, ranging from smokers to the byproducts of burning from a gas range. ____5____Meanwhile, indoor air quality measurement devices can alert us to when something is abnormal. So — measuring and filtering, measuring and filtering. While it takes work and some learning, and has a cost, the good news is that the tools are available to let us do this. The Washington Post(June 10, 2023)A. And if and when another airborne pandemic comes, they’ll probably help there too.B. At the same time, it’s also possible to become overly stressed about particles that we can’t control — which isn’t healthy either.C. Levels of PM2.5 in my office, for instance, were well above my comfort zone.D. Meanwhile, we keep learning more and more about the dangers of breathing in small particles of air pollutants.E. Several windows in the house had sagged downward, leaving them slightly open.F. The steps that I took, which anyone can take, will not only make the air indoors cleaner but also save energy.G. But you generally have to go out and buy special products to learn about indoor carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and formaldehyde. Mochi squishy toys are beloved by children, but their parents by and large aren’t fans. The inexpensive thingamabobs seem to have cornered the kids’ prize market. ___1___The toys are small, only 2 to 3 inches, but parents find the gooey texture makes them magnets for dirt and dust. Children have flocked to toys with squishy, spongy textures. ____2____With the soft touch of mochi, you can grab, poke, and squeeze them, release stress and anxiety, get rid of boredom, and promote blood circulation in your hands,” one listing on Amazon reads.____3_____They go from pink to brown the second you drop them,” said a father. Jeff Segura, a 29-year-old father of two in Houston, said his kids like throwing their mochi squishy toys to the ceiling, which leaves a moisture mark. “I’ve got three on the ceiling right now, and I can’t get them down because we have 12-foot ceilings.” he said. Social-media platforms including TikTok and YouTube are filled with cleaning tips for mochi squishy toys, with suggestions such as baking soda or mild detergent. Sara Martin, a 33-year-old stay-at-home mom, did a wonderful job in cleaning these tiny tricky toys.___4____ Not every kid gets pleased when their parents get rid of the toys. Curb, the mother in Brooklyn, said her daughter likes to build cardboard houses for her mochi squishy toys, and often becomes attached to them. The other day, Curb found herself fishing a squishy octopus out of the garbage after her daughter came home and was furious to discover she had thrown it out. ____5_____By the time she’s done with them, they are covered in gross things and are less cute,” Curb said. “Or the eyes rub off.”The Wall Street Journal (June 10, 2023)A. Toy marketers claim mochi squishy toys have benefits.B. Still, she could see why mochi squishy toys could be useful for kids who have their hands busy.C. Curb has begun to let her daughters’ playthings take their natural course.D. They’re made of silicone and rubber, and get their name from mochi, the Japanese rice cake with a gummy feel.E. She finds them in sofa cushions, at the back of cabinets and underneath beds, often covered in hairballs and cracker dust.F. However, parents are irked that mochi squishy toys often become filthy.G. She soaked them in soap and water, and then dusted them with cornstarch after her daughter’s toys got covered in dirt. Numerous studies suggest that having something to look forward to boosts your mood and lowers your stress.Imagining good things ahead of us makes us feel better in the current moment,” says Simon A. Rego, a chief psychologist. _____1____Get excited about a lot of little thingsAnticipating a smattering of small, delightful experiences can be as enjoyable as looking forward to one big event. At the end of every day, write down one thing you’re excited for tomorrow. ____2_____The accumulation of these mini thrills means you will still reap the benefits of looking forward to something, even if it’s not a big-ticket reward.Connect with your future self.Research has shown that feeling as if you are on a path to your future self can have a positive effect on your well-being by snapping you out of short-term thinking. While it’s fun to daydream about your future self, the steps you need to take to get there can be intimidating. ____3____Then set goals around them. If your priority is staying fit and healthy as you age, maybe your goal is to run a 5K. But don’t wait to feel motivated before you take that first step. Instead, when you do something toward your goal, “focus on how motivated you feel afterward, not before,” he says. As you start seeing progress, it will get easier: You will look forward to doing the things that get you closer to your future self._____4_____Several studies have also suggested that we get more happiness from anticipating experiential purchases than material goods. ____5______Then you’re looking forward to two things: the date itself but also introducing the other person to your world and seeing how they react.Readers Digest USA(June, 2023)A. Focus on experiences B. Remember that anxiety and anticipation can coexistC. There are ways to harness and incorporate the power of anticipation into your everyday life.D. Anyone who has taken a child to get a flu shot and then ice cream afterward knows the power of building anticipation for a thing you don’t want to do by pairing it with a thing you do. E. Maybe it’s a new book or getting doughnuts or a package you’re expecting.F. So start with clarifying the things in life you value the most.G. Choose an activity that is meaningful to you or a place you want to show the other person.   答案CEFDADAFGCCEFAG
