Oxygen levels have drpped in hundreds f lakes in the United States and Eurpe ver the last fur decades, accrding t a new study.
Researchers examined the temperature and the amunt f disslved xygen ( 溶解氧) in
nearly 400 lakes and discvered widespread drps in xygen levels. They fund disslved xygen fell an average f 5.5 percent in the surface water and 18.6 percent in deep water. Their findings suggest that warming temperatures and falling water clearness frm human activity are causing xygen levels t fall.

The drp f xygen levels in deep water may affect creatures that are mre sensitive (敏感的 ) t temperature increases, such as cld water fish. During summer mnths they depend n cler temperatures fund in deeper water. But if deep water is lw in xygen, these creatures can’t survive. “Thse are the cnditins that smetimes lead t fish kills in the water,” said study c-authr Kevin C. Rse. “It means a lt f areas cld water fish depend n may becme unlivable.”
Meanwhile, abut a quarter f the lakes examined actually shwed increasing xygen in the
surface water. It is a bad sign because it pints t a sudden grwth f algae (藻类). In thse lakes, disslved xygen was
“very lw” in deep water, likely creating unlivable cnditins fr many species, the researchers said.
