Hello, everyone. Today I would like to introduce a kind of very cute bird: they live in a cold place, wear a black and white coat, are a little fat and heavy, not tall. Who are they? Penguins. Now I’ll tell you something about them.
Penguins usually live in the Antarctic, a world of ice and snow. To survive, penguins have thick skin and a lot of fat to keep themselves warm. But what about their bare feet?Penguins need their bare feet to grip the ice in order to be able to walk on it without falling down. Also, their feet can help them to swim well in water.
As we can see, having bare feet is necessary for penguins. But how do these birds keep their feet from freezing?
Penguins have come up with three solutions to this problem. First, to prevent their feer from getting too cold, penguins may bend their bodies. In this way, the feathers on their bellies (腹部) can cover their feet. Second, they can stand on their heels (脚趾) and use their tails to keep balance so that their feet can be lifted off the ice. Third, penguins have special heat exchangers in their bodies. These exchangers control the amount of blood flowing down to their feet so that they can be kept at the right temperature.
But remember: though penguins’ feet don’t freeze, they are often very cold. If their feet were always kept warm, they would be wasting lots of energy to do so. That is why penguins keep the temperature of their feet just a few degrees above zero.
30. Why can penguins keep themselves warm in cold weather?
A. Because they have bare feet.
B. Because they have thick skin and a lot of fat.
C. Because they can swim fast under the water.
D. Because they can swim together to keep warm.
31. Which part of penguins’ bodies can help them keep balance?
A. Tails. B. Heels. C. Exchangers. D. Feathers.
32. What does the underlined word “grip” mean?
A. Pick. B. Hide. C. Catch. D. Break.
33. Which of the following statements is True according to the text?
A. The Antarctic is a cool and wet place.
B. Penguins always keep their feet warm.
C. Penguins may bend their bodies to prevent falling down.
D. The temperature of penguins’ feet is controlled by the exchangers.

When I was a little girl, I was never allowed to enter the kitchen though I was always looking forward to cooking by myself someday.
It was an early morning. Mom had gone for shopping and Dad went to work. I was home alone! Time to start! I got into the kitchen and decided to make an omelette (煎蛋饼). Sure I had seen Mom do it, so how could it be hard?
I took an egg, and some tomatoes. I cut the tomatoes just as I had seen others do it. Ouch! I cut my finger but luckily it wasn’t serious. That didn’t stop me. I tried two or three times to break the egg open. Then I lighted the fire and put the big pan on it with some oil and salt in it... Some oil dropped on the floor, not on purpose, of course!
Till putting the batter (面糊) into the pan, everything was going perfectly—then I realized I needed something to turn the omelette upside down. So I searched all over the kitchen for the right tool. Finally I found it and ran to turn over the omelette without breaking it—only to see a nicely browned, or rather burnt side up!
While I was busy taking it out into a dish, Mom came back. She was angry at seeing the kitchen in a mess: doors all open, and oil going everywhere of the floor.
I got the punishment — to eat the burnt omelette. Eating the omelette, I realized my first cooking experience turned out to be a failure. I just got the taste of my own medicine... I mean, the omelette. And I had learnt to leave things to the best cook — my mom, and never touched anything in the kitchen myself!

58. ③ 59. Don’t give in to anger easily.
根据“Whenever you feel bad about something, paint it (A) ________ of getting angry.”
根据“The kids were showing off their good clothes but never made jokes about you for being poor.” 其中,made jokes about意为“开某人的玩笑,嘲笑”,其同义短语为laugh at,此处应用动词laugh的过去式laughed。故填laughed;at。
Rick followed his mother’s advice.
根据“You might calm down in this way.” 根据“Next time you get angry, take a deep breath and walk away for a couple of seconds. And when you come back, talk to the person you’re angry at.”
根据“Don’t give in to anger easily.” Don’t give in to anger easily.
