It was our first evening dog-sitting while our teenage daughter was away on vacation. Louie searched the entire house for his “mommy”. While we were watching TV, this six-month-old dog dragged his large carrier down the stairs. This project took most of the evening. What happened next made us realize that he obviously put thought and reasoning into each move. He pulled each of his personal things down the stairs and put them in the carrier.
After Louie finished packing his “suitcase”, he jumped inside and pulled the zipper (拉链) closed. Then he lay down and went to sleep. The message was clear. He had seen his mommy pack her suitcase and go away. He must do the same to find her. In the morning, believing he had arrived, he jumped up — but his mommy was not there.
He surprised us with new undertakings every day. His favorite activity was going for a car ride to McDonald’s for chicken. But one day, my husband Paul didn’t stop at McDonald’s and left Louie in the car with the window open while he went off. That dog managed to jump out the window, walked two blocks and found Paul in a store. As Paul was paying for his things, he was shocked to look down and find Louie. Indeed, they stopped for some chicken on the way home.
One evening, when I was outside with Louie, I noticed a huge black bear. I screamed at Louie to come back inside the house. Instead, he fearlessly rushed to the bear’s back legs. The bear ran to get away from the little annoying dog. I was surprised at Louie’s bravery.
For Christmas that year, I turned Louie’s daily journal (日志) into a book written in a dog’s voice. Writing Louie’s story changed my life, and set me on the path to a new career as an author and radio talk-show host.
    24. What did Louie do the evening his mommy left?
    A. He decided to look after the author.
    B. He checked his own things all night.
    C. He got prepared to leave to find her.
    D. He tried to quarrel with the author.
25 Why did Louie jump out of the car window?
    A. To ask Paul for chicken.
    B. To share a ride with Paul.
    C. To get a seat in McDonald’s.
    D. To help Paul carry the things.
26 What happened one evening outside the author s home?
    A. Louie was hurt by a bear.
    B. Louie fought against a bear.
    C. Louie made the author angry.
    D. Louie made friends with a black dog.
    27. What is the change happened to the author because of Louie?
    A. She joined a club for homeless dogs.
    B. She bought Christmas gifts for dogs.
    C. She printed her first book of diaries.

More educators and researchers are bringing attention to misinformation (错误信息) through the internet and social media. Teaching media literacy (素养) can be a problem. Those against teaching internet literacy say it’s the same as thought control, which prevents some teachers from using it in class.
Erin, a mother from Massachusetts who has worked as a reporter, said that media literacy is a skill as important as computer engineering for the economy. She created a nonprofit group called Media Literacy Now to support digital literacy education. “Basic communication is part of our information economy, and there will be huge implications for our economy if we don’t get this right,” she said.
Shawn Lee. who teaches social studies in Seattle, Washington, has taught about double -checking online reports, getting information from more than a few places and using critical (批评的) thinking. He also created an organization for teachers to share experiences.
Teaching internet literacy to fight misinformation may be more effective than new laws. Some US states have added new standards for teaching internet literacy. Subjects can include how the internet and social media work, how to find misinformation by looking at many sources. Other ways of identifying misinformation might include looking for missing background information or recognizing emotional headlines.
Media and internet literacy is taught around the world. Finland and Canada have developed programs over the years to teach young people about the media. The goal is to get young people to understand what in the news and on the internet is a fact, and what isn’t.
Media and internet literacy is often compared to driver’s education. “We need speed limits, we need well designed roads and good regulations to ensure cars are safe. But we also teach people how to drive safely,” a director of education Johnson said.
This combination of government, industry and educators is considered the model that is needed for internet and media literacy. Education is needed for an effective answer to fight internet misinformation.
    28. What’s the view of people against teaching internet literacy?
    A. It needs laws to prove its effect.
    B. It adds to teachers’ heavy work.
    C. It’s like controlling people’s thought.
    D. It may face strong criticism of parents.
    29. What has Shawn done to support internet literacy?
    A. He’s created Media Literacy Now.
    B. He’s taught students critical thinking.
    C. He’s invented online double checking.
    D. He’s asked teachers to share experiences.
    30. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
    A. What’s been done about online literacy.
    B. What effect online literacy has on us.
    C. How we can stop misinformation online.
    D. How we could beat online misinformation.
    31. What does Johnson think about teaching internet literacy?
    A. People should learn about safe surfing.
    B. It should be covered in driver’s education.
    C. It calls for the efforts of online education.
    D. Finland and Canada have experience in this.
    D
European Union member countries made the final plan that would require all new cars sold in the EU to be zero emission(排放) vehicles starting in the year 2035. It’s part of the EU’s plan to deal with climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, a plan bigger than similar efforts in the US. A quarter of the EU’S emissions come from transportation, and 70% of that is road traffic.
“The direction of travel is clear: in 2035, new cars and vans(货车) must have zero emissions,” European Commission Executive Vice President Timmermans said in a statement. “The new rules on CO2-emissions from cars are a key part of the European Green Deal and will be a big contribution to our target of zero-emission by 2050,” Timmermans added.
The plan also requires that, by the year 2030, the average emissions of new cars drop by 55% and the average emissions of new vans drop by 50%, compared with vehicle emissions in 2021.
But there’s one major caveat to the plan. The EU said it would allow the continued sale of cars that run on e-fuels(合成燃料) past 2035 at Germany’s request. E-fuels are made using CO2 emissions caught in the air.
The US President has said he supports the increase of electric vehicles, and in 2021 he signed an order setting a goal that half of all new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the US in 2030 be zero-emission vehicles.
The shift from combustion engines(内燃机) to electric vehicles won’t be as easy as turning a key, experts say. Some of the challenges of changing to zero-emission vehicles include the high cost of electric cars, and a lack of charging equipment.
    32. What does the EU aim to achieve by 2035?
    A. No emissions are made from road traffic.
    B. Its efforts have the same results as the US.
    C. No new cars make any greenhouse gas emission.
    D. One-fourth of its emissions are from transport.
    33. Which can replace the underlined word “caveat” in Para. 4?
    A. Difficulty. B. Benefit. C. Relief. D. Excitement.
    34. How do experts view the change of combustion engines to electric cars?
    A. It does little harm to the environment.
    B. There are some problems to be solved.
    C. I will hep reduce the cos of car-making.
    D. The government should act up to support.
    35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. The US Falls Behind in Electric Cars
    B. The EU Has Mace Its Final Car Plans
    C. Different Voices Exist in the EU Plan
    D. All New Cars Will Go Green in the EU

“Do you mind if I join you?” I asked the three women seated at the cafeteria table. Then I introduced myself as a new employee. But my self-introduction was followed by an uncomfortable silence.
“I hate going home tonight,” one woman finally said, “because we have to send our dog away. She just can’t fit into our family. She shared that the dog’s name was Lady. She had trained as a guide dog for the blind, but failed her final test because she demanded too many hugs after completing her tasks.
I begged the woman to give me some time to reach my mom as we would consider taking her. After work, I drove to pick up Lady. For me, it was love at first sight. She had beautiful face, but the saddest eyes. “Lady,” I said, “I’m taking you to your new home with my family who will always love you.” I helped Lady into my car, and our new journey began.
I went home with Lady. My mom was waiting with some delicious dog treats. We led Lady to visit our family room. For a few weeks Lady still kept away from us. Then one day, my mom ordered everyone out of the kitchen. Locking the doors, she sat on the pantry floor, talking one-on-one with that dog. Hours passed, but by the end of the day Lady and my mom walked out of the kitchen side by side. It was as though Lady understood my mom’s words of acceptance. From then on we had a playmate and protector who shared our secrets, laughs, tears and hugs.
Her favorite place in the house was the landing almost at the top of the stairs. Every night at 2:00 A.M., Lady made her rounds, checking to see that we were all tucked in(藏). Only then would she rest.

    【66题答案】
    【答案】Dear Robert,
I’m writing to sincerely apologize that I failed to make it to the concert as scheduled, though I had been looking forward to it. Actually, my parents were away for a meeting last Sunday evening, which meant that I had to stay home looking after my little sister.
This Saturday morning, there will be a lecture in my school about traditional Chinese culture. It’s planned to be held in the lecture hall, beginning at 8 on Saturday morning. I hope I can have the chance to attend it with you, since I know you have a keen interest in Chinese culture.
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    第二节 (满分25分)
    【67题答案】
    【答案】One possible version :
Then one night, while I was sleeping soundly, I heard Lady barking in front of my room doors. I sensed that something must have gone wrong in the middle of the night, or Lady wouldn’t have behaved so unusually. After getting up and opening the door, I was met with Lady’s worried look. I was then led into Mum’s bedroom, where she was lying on the ground. Seeing this, I quickly dialed the emergency number, and in a minute the ambulance came, and we hurried Mum to hospital.
Luckily, as Mum was sent to hospital in time, her heart problem didn’t cause bad results. She was recovering well in hospital. After work the next day, I went to the hospital to accompany Mum. The doctor told me that the dog Lady had done a good job to find Mum in time, or she would have been delayed. Mum and I talked a while, about how Lady had changed since she came to our house, and how much we owed to her for her kindness. From then on, we became more connected to each other, and my favorite job was to walk her out in the open after work.
