阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

While established by Woodrow Wilson as a holiday in the United States in 1911, the practice of recognizing mothers on a specific day or time of year has spread to more than 40 countries. Here's a look at the various traditions.
France
Mother's Day in France only started in the 1950s. After World War I, it was celebrated on the last Sunday in May, unless it conflicted with the Pentecost(五旬节). If it did, mothers were celebrated on the first Sunday of June. Regardless of the day, a traditional gift is a flower-shaped cake.
Japan
Following WWI, Mother's Day in Japan gained some popularity, and it is now celebrated on the second Sunday of May. Gifts include red or pink conations(康乃馨) as they symbolize sweetness and purity. Children will often draw pictures of their mothers and present them to mom in addition to preparing dishes that their mothers have taught them.
Sweden
Celebrated on the last Sunday in May, the day isn't all that different from the U.S. version. There's breakfast in bed and homemade cards and the like. One difference is that the Swedish Red Cross collects money by selling red plastic flowers. The money from the flowers goes to mothers and children in need.
Thailand
While all mothers are recognized during Mother’s Day in Thailand, the holiday is largely centered on Sirikit, the queen mother of Thailand. Mother's Day is celebrated on her birthday, August 12, and public places and households are decorated with lights and pictures of Sirikit. Flowers like jasmine are popular gifts.
21. What do Japanese children usually do for their mothers on Mother’s Day?
A. Buy pictures. B. Cook meals. C. Grow flowers. D. Present cards.
22. Which country has a fixed date for Mother's Day?
A. France. B. Japan. C. Thailand. D. Sweden.
23. What's the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To tell us how different countries celebrate Mother's Day.
B. To protect traditions of Mother's Day in different places.
C. To introduce the origin and development of Mother's Day.
D. To call on us to show respect for our mother on Mother's Day.

Aron Ralston was a pretty normal guy, but he always had an extremely adventurous desire to travel and see the world. During his childhood, his family moved to Denver, Colorado, a place offering many opportunities to climb mountains, explore, and eventually he become the adventurer he’d always wanted to be. Back in 2003, Ralston was climbing in the remote, mountainous area of Southwestern Utah when the unthinkable happened. Aron got stuck in a crevice (裂缝) in the rocks and pinned by a big stone that weighed over 360 kilograms. The weight of the rock crushed his arm, and he was pinned by it. Aron took photos of his bad situation (which was going to get a lot worse) as he waited for rescue teams (救援队) to come to remove the rock so that he could get out and home safe.
But rescuers never came. Aron waited for them for days till he lost his hope. He knew he had to do something. He was 18 meters above the floor of the valley where he was pinned in, and he had a pocketknife. He made what must have been one of the most difficult decisions of his life: to cut his own arm in order to survive. Aron cut the lower part of his arm off, having to wrench (扭动) his forearm against the big stone to break the bones, and then got himself down to the bottom of the valley, where he would begin to walk and search for help. Luckily, help arrived in the form of a helicopter (直升机) that spotted him, covered in blood. Aron had tied off the wound to keep himself from bleeding to death pretty successfully and would eventually make it out alive.
Ralston went on to become an inspiring speaker and continued to travel and climb mountains—he didn’t let an incident that forced him to cut his own arm off stop him from doing what he really loved.
24.What can be inferred about Aron’s getting stuck?
A. It was unavoidable. B. It resulted from his being lost.
C.It was unexpected. D. It was caused by a moving stone.
25.Why did Aron take photos of his bad situation?
A. To send them to rescuers for help. B. To keep a record of his adventure.
C. To remind his friends of the danger. D. To tell the doctors about his wound.
26. What does the underlined word “spotted” mean in paragraph2?
A. greeted. B. found. C. encouraged. D. caught.
27.What helped Aron Ralston survive?
A. His cruelty and anger. B. His effort and bravery.
C. His talent and creativity. D. His calmness and determination.

There is more of a connection between food and culture than you may think. On an individual level, we grow up eating the food of our culture. It becomes a part of who we are. Many of us associate food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us. Food from our family often becomes the comfort food we seek as adults in times of frustration and stress.
On a large scale, traditional food is an important part of culture. It also operates as an expression of culture identity. Immigrants bring it wherever they go, and it is a symbol of pride in their culture and means of coping with homesickness.
Many immigrants open their own restaurants and serve traditional cuisine. However, the food does not remain exactly the same. Some ingredients needed to make traditional cuisine may not be readily available, so the taste and flavor can be different from what they would prepare in their home countries. Additionally, immigrants do not only sell cuisine to people from the same countries as them, but to people from different countries. Therefore, they have to make small changes to the original cuisine to cater to a wider range of customers. Those changes can create new flavors that still keep the cultural significance of the cuisine.
We should not only embrace our heritage through our culture's food but also become more informed about other cultures by trying their food. It is important to remember that each dish has a special place in the culture to which it belongs, and is special to those who prepare
it. Food is a window into culture, and it should be treated as such.
28. What’s the function of the traditional food?
A. It helps motivate homesickness. B. It shows culture identity.
C. It reflects a country’s history. D. It shows a community’s superiority.
29. Why do some immigrants have to change the original dishes in their restaurant?
A. To attach cultural importance to their dishes.
B. To announce the beginning of their life on foreign soil.
C. To make the dishes popular among customers.
D. To present their own food culture in a new way.
30. What’s the author’s attitude towards different food cultures?
A. Negative. B. Balanced. C. Unfair D. Unchangeable
31. Which column does the passage come from?
A. Space exploration B. Science and fiction
C. Food and culture D. Cultural heritage
D
It’s easy for consumers to buy food and drinks like a bowl of hot rice and coke online or from neighbourhood shops, but for astronauts such things were impossible in the past.
Members of China’s Shenzhou manned space flight last year, however, were able to enjoy such food, thanks to Joyoung, a Chinese firm. Joyoung created a mobile space kitchen for the astronauts. A drinking water machine, an air heater and a soybean milk maker were all accessible in the kitchen through a smart app. Tang Hongbo, who was a member of the Shenzhou manned spacecraft, said in the news that during his three month trip, he could eat hot food with just half-hour efforts, a contrast to the past when similar attempts required several hours. If we had time, we would also use equipment to eat homemade yogurt. We could also control the equipment in the space kitchen through mobile phone apps,” he said.
In the past, most foods couldn’t be directly heated in a microwave oven in the space. Conduction equipment often caused uneven (不均匀的) heating. An astronaut had to spend as long as four hours to heat some vegetables in the space kitchen. To solve the problem, Joyoung has developed equipment that gives out hot air to heat vegetables in a 360-degree way. That enables astronauts to eat steaming-hot fish-flavoured pork and Gongbao chicken, a spicy, stir-fried Chinese dish.
Apart from Joyoung, a group of companies, including Xiaomi Corp and Huawei Technologies, have contributed their technologies to the development of the space station. A vacuum (真空) cleaner enabled haircuts on the spacecraft possible. NOLO VR, a Chinese virtual reality manufacturer, has helped astronauts develop experimental equipment through which laboratory technicians on the ground can see and experience what astronauts are doing in the space.
32.What do astronauts think of Joyoung’s mobile space kitchen?
A. Water-saving. B. Energy-wasting.
C. Time-saving. D. Money-wasting.
33. How does the author show the convenience on Shenzhou manned spacecraft?
A. By making contrasts. B. By analyzing results.
C. By providing pictures. D. By answering questions.
34. What does the last paragraph want to show?
A. There are more technologies for the spacecraft.
B. Joyoung needs to further its technology.
C. Astronauts on board can do as they wish.
D. What astronauts are doing is significant.
35. What is the best title of the text?
A. Modern Technology Brings Convenience to Human Beings
B. Earth to Space, Firms Add Value by Creating Technology
C. Hot Diet on the Space Station Needs to be Addressed
D. Manufacturers Make Big Profits from Inventing Equipment
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
My husband and I just spent a week in Paris. 36 So the first thing we did was rent a fantastically expensive sixth-floor apartment the size of a cupboard. It was so tiny that we had to leave our suitcases in the hallway.
The place wasn’t entirely authentic, though. Unlike a normal Parisian apartment, the plumbing (水管) worked. 37 Our building even had a tiny lift with a female voice that said, “Ouverture des portes,” in perfect French. That is the only French phrase I mastered, and it’s a shame I don’t have much use for it.
Parisians are different from you and me. They never look lazy or untidy. As someone noted in this paper a couple of weeks ago, they eat great food and never gain weight. 38 French strawberries do not taste like cardboard. Instead, they explode in your mouth like little flavor bombs.
39 On our first morning in Paris, I went around the corner to the food market to pick up some groceries. I bought a handful of perfectly ripe small strawberries and a little sweet melon. My husband and I agreed they were the best fruit we had ever eaten. But they cost $18!
In France, quality of life is much more important than efficiency (效率). You can tell this by café life. French cafés are always crowded. 40 When do these people work? The French take their 35-hour workweek seriously — so seriously that some labor unions recently struck a deal with a group of companies limiting the number of hours that independent contractors can be on call.
A. Not all the customers are tourists.
B. The quality of life in France is equally excellent.
C. There was a nice kitchen and a comfortable bed.
D. The amazing food is mainly consumed by local farmers.
E. That’s not the only reason the French eat less than we do.
F. Our aim was to see if we could live, in some way, like real Parisians.
G. The food is so delicious that you don’t need much of it to make you happy.

Lily loved school. However, there was one class Lily worried about more than any other —art. She didn’t know why she just wasn't any good at drawing, painting, or cutting. Ms. Clay, the art teacher, stood at the front of the room. “Class, next Friday our school is going to have an art competition”, she announced. Ms. Clay was a great teacher, and Lily liked her a lot. But this announcement made Lily nervous. “Everyone in the school will create a piece of artwork to show in the library. You can use the different types of artwork we have been studying.” Ms. Clay was quite excited when she spoke while Lily found herself sinking lower in her chair.
Lily had the whole weekend to work on her project, but she could not think of anything to do. On Monday, Lily felt frightened, so after school Lily asked Ms. Clay if she could write an art paper instead of doing an art project.
“I understand this project scared you, Lily,” Ms. Clay said, “Just remember, you can create any kind of art you want.” Ms. Clay smiled at her. “Art is a person’s way of expressing his or her feelings —it isn’t always painting, drawing, or cutting. I know you will think of something very creative, and I can't wait to see it.”
When Lily arrived home, she took out a piece of paper and a pencil. She remembered Ms. Clay's words. “Art is a person’s way of expressing his or her feelings.” Lily wrote the word “terrified” on her paper. She crumpled (揉皱) the paper and threw it to the side of her desk.
Then Lily stared at the crumpled ball. Suddenly an idea struck her.
