    B篇
David Brown is known as the world’s fastest completely blind runner. He was diagnosed(诊断) with Kawasaki disease at 15 months old, which led him to completely lose his sight by age13.
Brown says he was living in fear for a number of years until he discovered his passion(热情) for running. After winning an essay(作文) contest, he earned the ticket for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. It was at that time that he knew he wanted to compete himself.
Paralympic(残奥会) runners train and compete alongside sighted(有视力的) guides. At the Rio Games in 2016, Brown and his partner Jerome Avery ran 10.99 in the men’s 100-meter dash to take home the gold. Brown made his way to running from another sport. He explains that he lost his left eye when he was 3, and lost vision in his right eye over time. He played basketball as a kid, but was increasingly getting injured because he couldn’t see the ball coming. “I took the opportunity to run on the playground, and realized I had some speed there,” he says.
He pursued his passion at the Missouri School for the Blind. Brown started at the school when he was 11, and it was there that he really started running track.
He got to his first Paralympic games by writing about running. Brown was one of the 25 winners of an essay contest that got to attend the event in Beijing. He says he wrote about how he used sports to overcome obstacle(障碍), noting that as he grew up he struggled with depression.
It’s important to be in sync(同步) with your running partner. His new partner Steward says he doesn’t have to slow down when running with Brown, because he’s fast. A 10-or 11-second race doesn’t require much speaking, Steward says. “It’s also an honor,” Brown says. He notes that Paralympic runners can’t do what they do without guides like Steward, who could theoretically run solo but choose not to. He calls it “a great honor”.
    24. What made David Brown decide to take part in the competition himself?
A.Winning an essay contest. B.Winning an Olympic medal.
C.Attending the 2008 Olympics. D.Attending the Missouri School.
    25. What made David Brown change from basketball to running?
    A.His change in personal interest.
B.The decline and loss of his vision.
    C.The diagnosis with Kawasaki disease.
D.His participation in his first Paralympic games.
    26. What can we know about David Brown’s essay?
A.It was inspiring. B.It was interesting.
C.It was pessimistic. D.It was depressing.
    27. Which proverb best describes David Brown’s story?
    A. All roads lead to Rome. B. Practice makes perfect.
    B. Where there is a will, there is a way. D.Hope for the best, prepare for the Worst.
    C篇
A famous teacher was speaking to the students at our school. He began his lesson by holding up a £100 bill. Then he said to the three hundred students, “Who would like to have this £100 bill?” The students began to put up their hands at once.
Then he said, “I am going to give this bill to one of you, but first, let me do this.” He then made this bill into a ball. Then he said, “Who wants it?” Hands went into the air.
“Well,” he said, “What if I do this?” and he dropped it on the floor and stepped(踩) on it. He picked up the dirty, crumpled(弄皱) bill and said, “Who still wants it?” Hands went back into the air.
“My friends,” he said, “You’ve learned a valued lesson today. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it didn’t go down in value(价值) . It was still worth £100.”
Many times in our lives, we’re dropped, crumpled, and stepped on by the chances we take and the things that happen to us. We feel as if we are worth nothing. But remember, no matter what has happened to you, you will never lose your value: you are always valuable to those who love you. Your value doesn’t come from what you drop or whom you know, but WHO YOU ARE .

A.the students put up their hands again.
B.the students put down their hands.
C.the students agreed to what the teacher said
D.the students put their hands in front of them
31.Why did the famous teacher use a £100 at his lesson?

    D篇
More and more travelers in China nowadays prefer homestays(寄宿) rather than traditional hotels, as they seek private living experiences. The house-sharing model was first introduced by the website couchsurfing.com in 2003. It is still the largest website for travelers to find accommodation without much money to spend.
Encouraged by her great experience of homestays in France, Maggita, 30, considered short-term hire(短租) as her first choice in her future trips. She later went back to her hometown-Shanghai and ran a “shared accommodation” business.
The short-term hire idea has been a win-win business model. For travellers, they can rent a special room at a reasonable price and also enjoy a first-hand experience of the local culture, compared with traditional hotels. For owners, they can gain much with daily rental. Now Maggita has deserted her last job in an IT company and become a host of some 20 homestays, which enables her to earn a monthly income of around 40,000-50,000 yuan.
In recent years, China has seen many homestay booking websites such as Xiaozhu and Tujia. Chen Chi, the founder and CEO of Xiaozhu, says the model is to share rooms or apartments that are not in use with people who need them. Instead of the traditional view that Chinese people feel uncomfortable living with strangers, Chen finds that a large number of travellers get along well with homeowners.
However, experts have pointed out a series of problems brought about by the fashion. Lacking supervision(监管)of those accommodation sharing websites, the service quality and accommodation safety cannot be guaranteed(保障).Experts suggest that the online websites should closely work together with communities and local police stations to improve the services.
    32. What can we learn about homestays from the first paragraph?

    A. They started in China.
    B.They offer the best service.

    C.They can be money-saving.
    D. They are popular with the youth.

    33. What does the underlined word “deserted” in the third paragraph mean?
A.Taken up. B. Given up. C. Looked for. D. Gone for.
    34. What does Chen Chi think of this sharing model?

    A.Useless.
    B.Relaxing.

    C.Well-accepted.
    D.Uncomfortable
    35. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
    A.Homestays need to be improved.
    B.Some experts don't support homestays.
    C. Lacking supervision is the biggest problem of homestays.
D.The police should manage the homestay services.

When we think of bicycles, we think of fun and the outdoors. Bicycles give riders the freedom to explore and enjoy the environment and its surroundings. 36
Most people know that riding bicycles is environmentally friendly. 37 If you are riding a bike, you are helping to reduce air and noise pollution.
Bikes are becoming more and more popular across the world. In fact, they are becoming more than just a fun pastime. 38 For many people around the world, access to markets and schools would not be accessible without a bike.
39 Some cities, such as Paris and Barcelona, have not only built bicycle lanes but also introduced a system of renting bikes. You can rent, or use a bicycle in one area of the city and drop it off in another area of the city. Paris now has thousands of bikes for public use, with bicycle stations located throughout the city.
Some South American cities, such as Bogota in Colombia, have a weekly car-free day. 40 On these days, the traffic-related air pollution from old buses and trucks is greatly reduced.
It seems that the bike is a force for good, providing solutions for cleaner cities without leaving a serious environmental footprint.
    A. Riding bicycles is a healthy, cheap activity and good exercise.
    B. Cities are taking this love and demand for bicycles seriously.
    C. People are encouraged to buy bicycles to go to and from work.

John was crazy about playing basketball. Every day after school, he would spend much time practicing basketball skills. Sometimes, he didn't go back home until sunset, which made his mother extremely angry. One day, as he was given a chance to watch a basketball game, he dreamed about being a member of the college basketball team the next year. On the way, he was delighted secretly. He thought no one in the world was luckier than him. Suddenly, a car hit him. What a terrible experience! It seemed like a bad dream.
John woke up in a hospital room. He was frightened to death. He realized that he couldn't move both of his legs. At that time, the doctor came in. When the doctor told him that both his legs were broken and he had to sit in the wheelchair for the time being, he knew his college basketball dream was over. He was really depressed. John followed what the doctors had told him, but it did not work entirely. When John left the hospital, he was sent to a health recovery center. He never heard of this center before, but it was not far away from his house. Although he felt unwilling to go there, he had no choice but to accept the fact.
A week later, he arrived there unhappily. The first person he met was Sunny Chen, who was so kind and friendly that he warmly welcomed John to go there. Sunny's legs were badly hurt in a skating accident. He told John that he would help him recover soon. Though Sunny couldn't move his legs, he became the coach of a basketball team called the Suns. After a period of recovery training, John felt his legs were all right. So Sunny invited him to join the game. Sunny guided the team in his wheelchair. Congratulations dear! How does it feel to be Miranda’s new assistant? I imagine that you’ll just be delighted with this news. So let’s see, you can start on Monday, right?
A: Umm, well, I don’t think I can start Monday. I am visiting my father in Baltimore. And because I don’t live in New York, I’ll need a couple of days to find a flat and buy some furniture and move my things from Avon.
B: Oh, well then, in that case I suppose Wednesday would be good. Ok, see you then!
    Text 9
Woman: Hello, Mr. Jan Erick Freedman. You’re a frequent traveler. And we also know that you eat out twice a day. How come you’re so fond of eating out?
Man: When I got my first job back in 1982 and started travelling, I had no other choice but eat out. I found that I felt different due to what I was eating, so I tried to find places that served food that made me feel good. The secret was the quality of the food and how well the food was prepared. I made an effort to find good restaurants as well as nice dishes.
Woman: How did you manage to make a list of 218 favorite restaurants?
Man: I’ve lived in many cities and when I moved back to Sweden from the United States, people asked me where to go and eat when they went to cities I knew. I got a lot of ideas. Then I wrote about restaurants for the Swedish club magazine and someone suggested I gather the information about the restaurants together since I had all the facts about the restaurants I’ve been to. I started to do that.
Woman: How do you find restaurants?
Man: The best way is to ask the people there. I may talk to the people at the street market or take a walk and look for a place for myself. I never asked a hotel clerk or a taxi driver. I don’t go empty restaurants or places with menus too difficult to understand.
    Text 10
Man: At the beginning of the tour, we’ll start with the most important place in my town, which is the Plaza Leon. The Plaza Leon, which is more than 100 years old, is a gathering place for young people on Friday and Saturday nights, and for parents and children on Sunday afternoons. Four streets lead to the Plaza, which have white sidewalks and treeline. Hernandes Street, which was named after a famous writer born in the city, contains all of the food stores, fish markets and vegetable stands. Femando Street, which was named after an educator, is where all of the government offices are housed. Via del Mar Street, whose roads are made of stones, is the only street which still has its old surface. Finally we come to Horatio Street on which there are two universities, one of them is the most famous university in my country. That’s why it’s my favorite street of all.
