When I’m in Italy, I generally only eat Italian food. I doubt whether there’s another country in Europe that has food that can keep me coming back for more.
To eat well in Italy, finding the right restaurant is essential. I appreciate personality-driven restaurants, run by people keen(热衷的) to share their love of good cooking, and places serving family recipes. Signs of a good restaurant include a low-rent location, lots of locals, and a small, handwritten menu in one language. The menu is small because they’re only selling everything they’re cooking; it’s handwritten because it’s shaped by what is fresh today in the market; and it’s in one language because they mostly serve locals.
For a fast and cheap lunch, I look for Italian food in corner delis (熟食店): either a rosticceria, specializing in roasted meats and antipasti(开胃食物), or a hot table bar — a cafeteria offering a buffet of meat and vegetables. Another option is to drop by a neighborhood grocery store to pick up some cold cuts, cheeses, and other foods for a picnic.
Italians tend to spend a long time on each course, and dinner is the evening’s entertainment(娱乐). For example, when you have a full-blown Italian dinner in a restaurant, you don’t get out until midnight; a three-hour meal is common. Waiters often provide lots of drinks that seem designed to keep you from leaving. When you want the bill, you’ll have to ask for it. To “eat and run” is seen as a lost opportunity.
A couple of years ago, I sat down at my favorite place in Verona, Enoteca Can Grande, with my friend and guide Franklin. We let the chef, Giuliano bring us whatever he wanted. Just after the antipasti arrived, Franklin’s wife phoned him and said, “Don’t eat too much cheese or dessert.” Later Franklin, who was not thin, surveyed our table. Sighing, he said, “The foods are so plentiful but I can eat few.”
“That’s a pity,” I said.
I enjoyed the food for three hours and he watched me eating for three hours. Eating in Verona was really an amazing experience.

A. At a restaurant at a high-rent location.
B. At a restaurant that locals visit frequently.
C. At a place where waiters don’t just speak Italian.

26. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. Ways to eat simply and cheaply in Italy.
B. Ways to prepare simple food in Italy.
C. Places to have a picnic in Italy.
D. Nice places to eat in Italy.
27. What do we learn about Italians at dinner in a restaurant?
A. They like ordering lots of drinks.

C. They usually spend much time on dinner.

On Nov. 30, 2020, NASA flight engineer Kate Rubins pulled out 20 radish (萝卜) plants grown in the space station’s Advanced Plant Habitat, wrapping them in foil for cold storage until they can make the voyage back to Earth next year.
Back on the ground, scientists at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida are growing radishes in a control group. The researchers will compare the space-grown radishes to the vegetables grown on Earth, checking on how space produce measures up on providing the minerals and nutrients astronauts (宇航员) need as they prepare for longer trips.
With their short growing time, radishes present potential advantages as a food source for future astronauts carrying out deep space missions in years to come. The radishes grow quickly, and they can be harvested in 27 days. The root vegetables also don’t require much care from people.
Astronauts have grown 15 different types of plants on the station, which include eight different types of leafy greens. And NASA has already tested more than 100 crops on Earth, identifying which plants to try out next in space. “Growing a range of crops helps us determine which plants grow better in microgravity and offer the best variety and nutritional balance for astronauts on long-time missions,” Dufour said.
Getting space agriculture right matters because the nutrients in the prepackaged food that astronauts currently eat in space degrade (降级) over a period of time, NASA said. Getting humans to Mars and back safely over a two-or-three-year mission requires growing food along the way. That not only gives astronauts more of a supply of fresh nutrients on the voyage, it also serves an emotional need as they tend to crops that are both a figurative (比喻的) and literal taste of home.
32. Why do astronauts choose to plant radishes in the space station?
A. Radishes don’t need too much attention.
B. Radishes can be stored in cold conditions.
C. Radishes can supply enough nutrients alone.
D. Radishes’ growing time can be shortened in space.
33. What’s the purpose of testing various crops on Earth?
A. To help researchers carry out experiments more correctly.
B. To provide astronauts in space with more choices of food.
C. To serve emotional support for astronauts on the voyage.
D. To make sure the plants grow well and avoid nutrition loss.
34. What does the underlined word “they” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. Astronauts. B. Nutrients. C. Researchers. D. Radishes.
35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. Agriculture in the future B. The food for astronauts
C. Planting radishes in space D. Preparations for space mission

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。
One day my grandfather gave me a gift — a piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach in and get the money out. The only way to get at the money was to break the piggy bank open. My grandfather explained that was the whole idea; the piggy bank would help save my money so that, at the end of the year,I might have enough for that bike I dreamt about. He asked if I would put some of the money he gave me into the piggy bank. I agreed immediately and promised that I wouldn't break it open until I could afford my dream bike.
Whenever he gave me a little bit of money, he would say, "This is for spending. But you can save some and put it in the piggy bank if you want to save it up." When he gave me larger amounts, it was clearly for saving in the piggy bank. For some time, this worked fine. I loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it became heavier, I grew more excited, dreaming about buying my new bike, and all the adventures I could have on it
Whenever I wanted to take some money from the piggy bank to buy delicious ice-creams or beautiful pens,I would imagine riding my bike on the street, and thinking of that, my thoughts about ice-creams or pens went away. So for almost six months, I only put money into the piggy bank without taking any out. I thought I wouldn't break my piggy bank for anything. But one day something unexpected happened. I saw a piece of news on the television that a serious earthquake had happened in a nearby province. As many houses were destroyed, a lot of children became homeless. Seeing their shabby clothes and crying faces, I was sleepless that night.
