If you have heard about a cat called Gyra, you may want to know why people say it’s scary. Actually, the African black-footed cat is unusual because of its number of the kill per night. For example, it can kill more prey (猎物) in one night than a bigger cat, such as a leopard, would kill in months.
The black-footed cat is the smallest wild Cat in Africa, having a head-and-body length of 35-52cm. The interesting fact about these cats is that you may imagine them to have obvious black colored feet but actually only the bottom surfaces of their feet are black. They are stripy (有条纹的) and fit well into their native environments around them, so they are good at hiding. These cats look cute. To people, they would look the same as a common domestic (驯养的) cat. Maybe this is why they are so successful in their hunting.
They are not domesticated at all. You are unlikely to see black-footed cats eating some cat treats. Instead, they would probably refuse such a treat because they prefer something that has been freshly killed as an acceptable food.
Black-footed cats live in Africa but it may be hard to find one because of their small number. However, a BBC show reported them, which might help them get some help to survive longer. Some people may also think that more attention could make bad people try to find them, but hopefully, more good than bad will come from it.
4.Why is the black-footed cat considered to be scary?
A.It has a large size. B.It hunts very quickly.
C.Its feet are poisonous. D.It attacks humans at night.
5.What can we learn about the black-footed cat?
A.Its imagination is excellent. B.It likes playing tricks on people.
C.It often hides itself from domestic cats. D.Its appearance helps its hiding.
6.Why do black-footed cats generally refuse cat treats?
A.They find cat treats dangerous. B.They want to keep away from humans.
C.Cat treats are not their diet preference. D. Cat treats make them less active in hunting.
7.What is the author’s attitude towards the BBC show?
A.Positive. B.Unclear. C.Doubtful. D.Disappointed.

Anna Chojnicka was quarantined (隔离) last year in her house because of COVID-19. She was so bored that she absent-mindedly picked up a banana on her kitchen table and started running her fork along the outside of the skin. The dark lines that appeared on the skin looked interesting to her, and she watched as the marks gradually got darker. She continued doodling and was soon interested.
Chojnicka started making pictures that were more and more complex (复杂的) using the same way—only pressure, no paint—until she drew an Ethiopian coffee pot and cup. Her new hobby was born. Since that first day she knew what she could do by drawing on a banana skin, Chojnicka has been posting her daily paintings online, where she has thousands of fans. “I haven’t missed a day, but I know I can’t keep that up forever,” she says, adding that she finishes her daily picture, takes a photo and then eats the banana because she doesn’t like waste.
Her art comes to life by oxidization (氧化). Just like apples, bananas oxidize or turn brown as their cells interact with oxygen in the air. Cells that are damaged brown faster. By varying the time when she applied the marks, Chojnicka discovered that she could create complex pictures.
While her banana drawings began as a way to overcome boredom, they have become something bigger. “I saw a chance to put it to something good,” says Chojnicka. With the help of her social media fans, she has collected about $1,600 for FareShare, an organization in the United Kingdom that provides food for people in need.
8.What does the underlined word “doodling” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Eating. B.Drawing. C.Observing. D.Imagining.
9.What does Chojnicka do after finishing her daily creation?
A.She colors it with dark paint.
B.She sells it to her followers online.
C.She throws the oxidized banana away.
D.She shares a photo of it on the social media and then eats it.
10.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.How Chojnicka took up the hobby. B.How banana drawings are possible.
C.Why banana drawings are so popular. D.Why Chojnicka began to study fruits.
11.What is Chojnicka trying to do with her creations?
A.To help the society.
B.To climb to the top of her career.
C.To teach people how to appreciate art.
D.To encourage her followers to achieve their dreams.

Now my dad is one of those people who never seem to have much trouble knowing how to make money. Sure, Mom and Dad had some trouble keeping it for a little while during the bankruptcy (破产) years, but bringing home a good income was never really a problem. That’s because my parents have never been worried about where money comes from. It’s something my dad has told me every day: Money comes from hard work.
Dad began to help my grandparents answer the phone from customers when he was eight years old. Sadly, many parents today pay more attention to what their children want so that they have lost perspective (洞察力) on what their children really need. Perspective—looking at life over time—demands that you teach children to work. Teaching a child to work is not child abuse (虐待儿童). We teach them to work not for our benefit, but because it gives them both dignity (尊严) in a job well done today and the tools and character to win in the future as adults.
You should consider teaching your children to work in the same way you consider teaching them to bathe and brush their teeth as a necessary skill for life. If your child graduates from high school and his only skill includes playing video games, complaining and eating junk food, then you have set him up to fail.
Another huge benefit of teaching a child to work is that she will tend to lose respect for people who refuse to work. Why is this good? Because you want your daughter to marry Mr. Right, not Mr. Lazy.
So train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not go away from it.
12.What do we know about the author’s father?
A.He began to make money at age 8. B.He wasn’t good at making plans.
C.He lost courage after his bankruptcy. D.He cared much about hard work.
13.What does the writer think is a problem of today’s parents?
A.They don’t know their children’s real needs.
B.They do almost everything for their children.
C.They conduct child abuse without knowing it.
D. They don’t take good care of their children.
14.Which of the following is a benefit of teaching children to work according to the author?
A.Children can learn a lot about money.
B.Children can help support the family.
C. Children will stop playing video games.
D.Children will learn to keep away from lazy people.
15.What is the text mainly about?
A.How kids can form lifelong habits. B.Why kids should be taught to work hard.
C.How parents can raise good children. D.Why parents should work hard for their kids.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Every Saturday afternoon, Jimmy and his dad would go to the park to play baseball. They always walked past a homeless man who always sat at the same street corner. Jimmy’s dad always gave the man some money. “Someday, I’ll pay you back, John!” the man said. “Sure, Wayne,” Jimmy’s dad replied.
One day, Jimmy held his dad’s hand, asking, “Dad, how does that man know your name?” John answered, “Oh, when I was in college, I knew Wayne. He was on the brink (边缘) of a big discovery that could bring him a patent. Anyway, things didn’t go well for him. So whenever I see him, I give him some money. And he tells me he’s using it for lab supplies. I don’t think it’s true, but I pretend I do. And when he tells me he’ll share the profits of his discovery, I tell him I believe it, too.”
Jimmy didn’t understand anything his dad was saying, but he felt the compassion(同情) in his voice. So he stopped his dad and gave him a big hug. Jimmy didn’t know it was his last hug. That night, while Jimmy’s dad was out for his evening run, his heart stopped beating.
The only person Jimmy was living with was his grandmother, Wendy. And they ended up living in an old small house. Life got very tough for them. Although Wendy was old, she found a cleaning job. But her health started to fail and Jimmy was very worried about her.
Jimmy became very quiet. To cheer him up, one Saturday, Wendy went to the park and threw the ball around with Jimmy. After that, they came out. And there at the comer, Jimmy saw his dad’s homeless friend, Wayne.
“Wait, Grandma!” Jimmy cried. “There’s something I have to do!” Jimmy walked up to Wayne and turned his pockets inside out. He said to Wayne, “Sorry, but I only have twenty cents.” “That’s okay. Every cent helps!” Wayne said. “How’s your dad? I haven’t seen him for a while.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
