The Complete Guide to Albertans Icefields Parkway
Introduction
The 144-mile Icefields Parkway is one of Canada's most scenic road trip routes (路线) and is a must for visitors to Alberta. It has dozens of viewpoints where you can see glaciers, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, forests, and valleys. The parkway starts in Jasper National Park, and travels south to near Lake Louise, in Banff National Park. Most travelers will approach the parkway from Jasper National Park, though. The Icefields Parkway is open throughout the year, but most travelers will prefer to drive it in the warmer months.
Stops to Make Along the Way
Athabasca Falls: Around 30 kilometres south of Jasper, the 75-foot waterfalls are not exceptionally high, but they run with a large amount of water, making them some of the most impressive waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies.
Sunwapta Falls: Fed by the Athabasca Glacier, the Sunwapta Falls are divided into the upper and lower sections. The upper waterfalls are easily accessible, but you need to hike a short distance to get to the lower waterfalls. The lower waterfalls are definitely worth the walk if you want to escape the crowds in the summer. Sunwapta Falls are about 34 miles from Jasper.
Where to Get Supplies
If you're spreading this road trip over more than one day, stock up on snacks in Jasper or Lake Louise and fill up your tank there, too. There are no major towns between Jasper and Lake Louise. In summer, there are a few places to eat and stay along the way, but prices tend to be high because of the lack of competition and the area's remoteness.
Want to go there to have fun? Please contact us for more information.

Along the Ulungur River (乌伦古河) in Altay (阿尔泰山), the northernmost area of Xinjiang, lives a species of beaver (河狸). This animal, which feeds on the shrubs (灌木) that grow near the river, has a strong sense of territory (领地) and won't leave its surroundings easily. So if people ruin the river, the beavers' homes will be destroyed and they will no longer survive. But fortunately for these picky (挑剔的) animals, they have a responsible protector, Beaver Princess, Chu Wenwen.
Chu had a very different childhood. She was introduced to the wild at the age of 2 by her father who is an animal conservationist (环保主义者). So when the other children were reciting ancient Chinese poems and English alphabet (字母卡), Chu was working hard to remember the names of different animals and plants. So instead of being a white-collar worker after graduating from Beijing Forestry University (北京林业大学), Chu decided to return home and follow in her father's footsteps.
In Chu's hometown of Altay, there are 466 species of wild animals and 74 state-protected ones living in the surrounding 110, 000 square kilometers. In 2018, Chu founded the Altay Natural Conservation Association which is aimed at animal protection.
The first public project Chu started was for beavers. "We took the beavers as a priority(优先) because they were greatly endangered at that time," Chu said. "The beavers, which can build dams(大坝), are known as 'engineers' in the animal kingdom. Their dams can change water levels, gather fish, attract birds to nest and bring insects," Chu explained.
Chu developed the "Beavers Canteen" program which calls on people to donate to help plant a species of shrub that is an important food resource for the beavers. The shrub is also the building material of the beavers. The clever animal makes full use of it.

Recently,Australian scientists learned something unexpected about magpies ( a kind of bird ) when they tried to attach trackers to them to learn more about how far they flew and what they did during a normal day as they are concerned that magpies may have a hard time adjusting as the world warms up because of climate change.
It's hard to find trackers that work well with small and middle-sized birds. The previous trackers were either too heavy or didn't last long enough. The researchers tried a new tracker on the magpies. They were light and could be recharged (再充电) without wires (电线) while they were still on the birds. And to keep the trackers on the birds without causing flying problems, the researchers developed a special device to hold the tracker in place. It was strong,so it wouldn't come off by accident. But it had a special release controlled by magnets (磁铁).This was meant to allow the scientists to free the birds from the device, without having to catch the birds again.
There was just one problem- the birds didn't like the trackers. The researchers placed trackers on five magpies. But just ten minutes after setting up the last magpie, they noticed something unusual:an adult female magpie was helping another magpie get free from its device.By the third day, none of the birds had trackers anymore.
The scientists were disappointed about the trackers, but they realized that the magpies had taught them something else:that magpies are able and willing to help each other out. They don't know how the magpies the difficult problem of getting the device off. They also don't know if it was just one magpie or several which removed them. However, the researchers are glad they've learned about the saving behavior of magpies and now they need to try again to figure out a good way to track these clever birds.
8. What is the second paragraph mainly about? ______
A. The introduction to the new tracker.
B. The design process of the new tracker.

D. The significance of using the new tracker.
9. What does the underlined word " cracked " in the last paragraph mean? ______
A. Ignored. B. Corrected. C. Approached. D. Chose.

A. The trackers got out of order while working.
B. The scientists collected valuable reference data.
C. The researchers gave up their observation of the birds.
D. The scientists failed to track the birds but got a surprise outcome.
11. What could be the best title of the text? ______

Vegans are persons who don't eat meat, fish, eggs, dairy, and other animal products from their diet. The average parent who is not a vegan often is concerned when their child decides to become vegans, wanting their personal physician to talk their child out of it. Will their child get enough nutrition (营养) being a vegan? Don't kids have to eat meat to get enough protein (蛋白质) in their diet?
Although not for everybody, a vegan diet does indeed have many health benefits, and if well planned, it can be a healthy diet for kids. One shouldn't be crazy when talking about possible health benefits of being a vegan, though. Evidence doesn't suggest that kids raised on a vegan diet are sick less often than other kids. Not all vegetarian foods are healthy—some are high in sugar, saturated fat (饱和脂肪), or cholesterol (胆固醇).
The vegan diet is typically low in cholesterol and saturated fat and is high in fiber and may lead to a lower risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and other diseases.
These health benefits led Dr. Benjamin Spock to recommend a strict vegan diet for all children over the age of 2 years, which advised that children shouldn't be given products made from milk after they are two years old and that they can get plenty of protein and other nutrition from vegetables, beans, and other plant foods that avoid the fat and cholesterol that are in animal products.
Dr. Spock's advice created a lot of arguments. It's not because experts questioned the health benefits of a vegan diet, but they thought that parents might not take enough time and effort to plan a vegan diet that included enough nutrients to ensure the best growth in their children.
12. What is the characteristic of a vegan diet?
A. It's a diet of being low in meat.
B. It's a diet of being rich in cholesterol.
C. It's a diet of being rich in fat.
D. It's a diet without animal products.
13. What is Dr.Spock's suggestion about the diet?
A. Children over 2 years old shouldn't eat animal products.
B. The vegan diet is widely accepted by most parents.
C. Children over 2 years old should avoid vegetable fat.
D. Parents need less time to prepare meals for children.
14. What is introduced in the last paragraph?
A. The origin of a strict vegan diet.
B. The effort to make a nutritious diet.
C. The difficulty of planning a strict vegan diet.
D. The details of ensuring enough nutrients for children.
15. What is the suitable title of the text?
A. How to avoid the fat from the diet
B. Health benefits of vegan diets for kids
C. The shortcoming of eating meat for kids
D. How to create more nutrients for children

"Yes." I answered quietly. To be honest,I could feel my heart beating fast.I hated this, but I couldn't stop it.Thinking of what I would talk in class,I went into Mrs.Owens' class. She was smiling sweetly and saying hello to all her students as she did every morning.
"Hi,Sam," she said to me as I walked into the classroom. "Hi!" I said and quickly rushed to my seat, feeling my heart beating faster and even my body shaking.I looked at the clock, which told me the class was about to begin. Then Mrs.Owens started, "Sam,it's your turn to give us your speech." Stand up in front of everyone?Oh,no!
I got up slowly, not daring to look at other things but the ground,as I walked to the front of the classroom. Then I took a deep breath, forcing myself to look up and everyone was looking at me.Mrs.Owens knew I was nervous,so she came beside me and put her hand on my back.
She said to the class, "Sam has worked very hard on his report and I know it is a very interesting report." After that, she turned to me and asked, "Sam,what did you like best about the report on Hawaii?"
I thought about the funny things I had about surfing, and I started to talk as if I had returned to beautiful Hawaii, watching the white seabirds dancing in the blue sky.I talked and talked proudly in front of the whole class. It was great fun.How strange it was for me not to be nervous and frightened at all!The class burst into claps as I finished and Mrs.Owens was smiling.
