Reading and writing poetry is a very personal experience. Poets use language as a way of expressing their feelings. Poems can describe the beauty of nature, a person, a dream or a memorable event.
But teachers and psychologists have found another use for poetry as a form of therapy(疗法)to help people with problems. Writing poetry can help people deal with changes in their lives, death or feelings of sadness, drug or alcohol problems or serious illness. Poems written as therapy can be funny too, as laughter is also considered to be very good medicine.
Students at a special school in Dudley, in England, read and write poems every day. Some of the poems they write are very good, but their reason for writing is not just to be creative. All of them have problems. Some of them have long-term medical conditions, such as cancer, while others have personality disorders or psychological problems. By writing poems students are growing in self-confidence. The poems provide a channel through which they can communicate with the world, and express their feelings. They also help them to recognize and explore their problems and to develop a positive attitude to life.
But the poems are helping other people, too. The school has collected some of the students’ poems and published them in a book which is being sold to raise funds for a local hospital. The book has proved very popular, giving students a sense of motivation and achievement.
22. How can poetry work as therapy?
A. By solving physical problems. B. By staying away from humor.
C. By communicating face to face. D. By promoting expression.
23. What makes the students of the school in Dudley special?
A. They suffer many problems. B. They know many poems.
C. They are very confident. D. They are very positive.
24. What does the published book mean to the students?
A. They’ll get wealthy. B. They’ll get inspired.
C. They’ll become popular psychologists. D. They’ll become professional poets.

第三节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As this term began, I found a new student in my class named Ian Bonus 16 years old. He was silent, always doing business alone. From his file, I leaned that Ian was born in Korea, and spent all his childhood there until his family moved to England. It wasn’t as smooth and easy as he imagined. He had to learn and speak a new language so as to communicate with others. When at school, he tended to avoid crowds. He usually tried every possible means to keep his mouth shut up, even in class. Besides, after class, he didn’t join any clubs or activities even though everyone around him invited him to have a try.
At the beginning, I thought Ian was just a little shy at his age especially in a new place. However, later he still didn’t say a single word when classmates got along well. Having ever dealt with such similar situation myself, I felt I had the suitable experience and the right responsibility to encourage him to melt into our class. Finally, a chance came. One day, in my class, it was Ian’s turn to make a short speech as other students did regularly. But he just stood up, saying nothing. Then I could feel his face red with embarrassment. Next class, we had a P.E. lesson on the court. Again, he didn’t join, just sitting on the bench watching others play. Learning that he was fond of sports and was actually a very athletic and energetic person, I felt a strong desire to persuade him to play together. With this thought in mind, I walked over and sat aside Ian.
注意:
1.续写词数应150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“Hello, Ian, why not join us in playing badminton?” I smiled, “I know you can play well.”

Dear John,
I’m writing to invite you to a lecture on the first aid treatment for sports injuries. It will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm next Friday at the Student Center on our campus.
This lecture aims to help our school become a safer place for everyone. It covers the common types of sports injuries, their causes, sport-specific prevention and first aid treatment methods. Knowing that you are always keen on playing sports, I think this lecture will be really helpful to you. If you are interested, just let me know as soon as possible.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】One possible version:
“Hello, Ian, why not join us in playing badminton?” I smiled, “I know you can play well.” However, he shook his head and smiled shyly. Then I told him it was common for a newcomer and I could understand how he was feeling. I hoped he could tell me the reason and be more active. He was moved and told me that the reason was his lack of confidence to speak English in front of others and his fear of being teased. Then I encouraged him to seize every chance to practice and later we decided on some useful tips.
The next morning, Ian volunteered to step onto the platform to make up for the speech he missed the day before. “Hello, everyone. I’m Ian Bonus from Korea. Before my speech, I’d like to express my sincere thanks to you all, especially our teacher.” Then he finished a brilliant speech fluently. After that, he was active in every discussion in class and joined an after-school sports club with new friends. Since then whether on the court or during speeches, confident smiles were always on his face.
