Planning a cruise on a budget often involves searching for the best cruise deals and specials. While it's true that one of the best ways to save on cruises is to choose major lines' seasonal promotional offers, there are other ways to significantly reduce the cost of your trip. You might even be able to enjoy a cruise on as little as $100 a day.
We consulted with Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor of Cruise Critic, to get even more money-saving tips. Read on to discover how you can enjoy cruises for cheap.
    Purchase an all-inclusive package
An easy way to rack up (增加) a high cruise bill is by taking advantage of every extra that a cruise line has to offer without knowing which extras are included in the package you've purchased. If you're worried about spending too much on activities, beverages, food and accommodations, book an all-inclusive package, which could help you save money in the long run.
    Seek unadvertised discounts
Though they don't always advertise them, many cruise lines offer special prices for certain groups. Royal Caribbean, for example, extends special pricing on all cruises to airline employees.
Call the cruise line to find out if it offers discounts for any groups, employers or organizations you are affiliated with, and you could save up to S100 or more a day on your booking.
Use an app to track prices
If you can be flexible with your travel dates, you might be able to get a great deal on a cruise by using an app like Cruise Critic. The app lets you monitor prices of upcoming cruises and informs you of any major changes on prices as the days go by. If the price on your cruise drops after you've booked, you can contact the cruise line to negotiate the difference. The cruise line might refund you in the form of an onboard credit that you can use for cruise activities and other amenities during your trip.
    Look for local deals
Many cruise-goers extend their vacations by booking stays and planning activities in port cities before and after the cruise. If this is your plan, save money on dining and adventures by looking for local deals ahead of time.
1.According to the passage, who might get unadvertised discounts of Royal Carribbean?
    A.Senior editors.
    B.Royal members.
    C.Airline employees.
    D.Local cruise-goers.
2.The main purpose of the passage is to____.
    A.advertise a cruise app
B.present the advantages of a cruise
C.inform people of what to do on a cruise
D.offer tips on saving money for a cruise trip
3.The passage is most probably taken from a ______.
    A.sailing blog
    B.science journal
    C.travel brochure

I was on an amazing trip with my wife, following Marco, our guide to experience the festival of Qoyllur Rit’i which takes place at 4,300 metres in the southern Andes of Peru, a festival which few foreign tourists ever get to see.
People were travelling to this festival from all over Peru. Among them there were old men, mothers with small babies and children all following the same route. Many of them had horses carrying their food, blankets and tents. Some, like us, had come by bus to Mahuayani, the nearest town, and were walking up from there.
We continued climbing for another hour and a half before reaching the Sinakara valley. There we looked down on a flat plain of open grassland. Right across this flat piece of ground people were putting up tents of blue plastic to protect themselves from the rain. Marco chose a spot to put up our tent.
Not far away in an open market, people were buying tiny houses, cars or small pictures showing a baby or something else. Marco explained that these represented something the pilgrims(朝圣者)wanted. They would take them and bury them in the mountain. This, they believed, would make sure that what they wished for would come true in the year to come.
After dinner we went to bed fully clothed inside our sleeping bags. We were up early the next morning, the main day of the festival. The Ukukus men wearing black masks(面罩) and bright costumes, had left their tents in the early hours to climb the nearest mountain by the light of the full moon. They stopped to dance from time to time, believing this would bring luck to their villages. As they came down, they were joined by groups of dancers in traditional costumes. They performed wherever there was a space. Although there did not seem to be anyone organising them, the whole festival had become a huge harmonious(和谐的) celebration.

    A.At our guide. B.A schoolboy.

Rick Anderson says he isn’t scared of sharks and he is appealing to others to learn to love them.
“I try to convince people that looking at a shark eye to eye is totally different to sitting on a surfboard or a boat looking at every shadow that goes underneath thinking it’s a shark coming to get them,” he said. “Eye to eye they look at you, you look at them and you go your own way.”
“I find that once people see their first sharks, their whole attitude changes. They realize that they are not as scary as what they thought they were,” Mr Anderson said. He compares sharks to dogs, in the way they show their behavior and attitude towards humans. “You’re not going to go up to a dog that is arching (拱起) its back and making a low sound in the throat at you,” he said. “If a shark is arching and its fins (鳍) are down, it’s telling you to move on.” He admit he thought the shark was trying to attack him the first few times.
Mr Anderson is against the controversial policy introduced in Western Australia to kill a shark if it presents a threat to humans. He said many of the same things that occur in Western Australia are also happening in New South Wales.
Mr Anderson said that sharks come closer to shore because they are attracted to the smell of whale carcasses (尸体) which have broken down after being buried in the sand on many beaches.
Mr Anderson often sees grey nurse sharks, fur seals, leopard seals, penguins and fishes of a range of colours in the Pacific Ocean along Bellingen Shire. “Depending on the time of the year, you can get a good mixture of sea creatures moving through there,” he said. Tiger sharks are his favourite kind of sharks. He describes them as pig-headed but also graceful creatures.
8.What does Mr Anderson probably do?
    A.A boatman. B.A diver. C.A surfer. D.A fisherman.
9.What does Mr Anderson indicate by comparing sharks to dogs?
A.Sharks have the same behavior as dogs.
B.Sharks are naturally friendly to human beings.
C.Sharks can be lovely creatures if properly trained.
D.Sharks can send messages through their behavior.
10.What mistake did Mr Anderson once make?
A.He never looked at sharks eye to eye.
B.He once saw sharks as a scary animal.
    C.He misunderstood a shark’s arching its back.
D.He didn’t allow sharks to get close to shores.
11.What do we know about the Pacific Ocean along Bellingen Shire?
    A.It’s Mr Anderson’s favorite place.
B.It’s a popular place for tourists.
C.It’s open in certain times of the year.
D.It’s where Mr Anderson trains sharks.

When it comes to mental illness, many people often find it tough to get the help they need. This is especially true for young students making the transition (过渡) to college life.
“Sometimes, students don't realize how hard it is to adjust to college,” said Laura Smith, associate dean of students at the University of Texas at Dallas. “You’re not the big fish in your classes anymore; you have all kinds of personal stress; you're away from home. “Dealing with these things is not easy.”
Students who are going through these problems sometimes want to reach out. But if students don't feel comfortable seeking help, many feel that it's the responsibility of their university to help them.
“I really wish that there was more importance placed on how counseling (咨询) centers help students,” said Connie Trinh. "Counseling services are just as important as academics and sports.”
Trinh, 27, graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 2015. During college, she hosted various workshops on how to handle mental health conditions. Trinh used her own story to connect with students who might be facing similar problems. High academic pressures, cultural differences as an Asian American and stressful social situations stood out as some of the most common causes of Trinh's anxiety.
It was only after years of personal problems that she could admit that reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness.
“If you feel you can't connect with other people around you, you should address the issue without shame,” Trinh said. “You'll find that there are a lot of people out there who sincerely want to help you.”
12.The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon_________.
    A.college life B.counseling service
    C.mental health D.cultural differences
13.What's Trinh's preferred solution to the problems mentioned?
    A.Making self-criticism.
    B.Handling the problems actively.
C.Solving the problem on your own.
D.Finding the causes of the problems.
14.What does the underlined phrase “connect with” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Get along with. B.Join together with.
C.Be related to. D.Get through to.
15.What can we learn from the text?
    A.Counseling service helps doing research.
B.Adjusting to college life is a piece of cake.
    C.Hosting workshops improves students’ ability.
D.Being brave to get help is not a sign of weakness.

Advice for Cooking on a Tight Schedule
From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don’t cook more often: ability, money, and time.
16 Money is a topic that I’ll talk about another day. So today I want to give you some advice about how to make the most of the time in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:
Think ahead. I usually think cooking is a pain when I’m already hungry and there is nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials already? 17
Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? 18 It takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.
19 This may surprise you, but one of the best ways to make cooking worth your time is experimentation. It gives you the chance to hit upon new ideas and recipes that can work well. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule.
Hopefully that gives you a good start. 20 And don’t let a busy schedule disappoint you and stop you from making some great changes in your life!
    A.Try new things.
    B.Ability is easily improved.
    C.Make three or four instead.
    D.Understand your food better.
E.Cooking is a burden for many people.
F.Let cooking and living simply be a joy rather than a burden.
G.A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.

根据第三段第一句话“We continued climbing for another hour and a half before reaching the Sinakara valley.(我们又爬了一个半小时才到达西纳卡拉山谷。)”以及后面的描述“There we looked down on a flat plain of open grassland. Right across this flat piece of ground people were putting up tents of blue plastic to protect themselves from the rain. Marco chose a spot to put up our tent.(在那里,我们俯瞰着一片平坦的开阔草原。 故选A。
根据最后一段倒数第二句“They stopped to dance from time to time, believing this would bring luck to their villages. “They performed wherever there was a space.(只要有场地,他们就表演。)” 故选A。

根据第三段中“You’re not going to go up to a dog that is arching(拱起) its back and making a low sound in the throat at you(你不会去找一只拱起背部,在喉咙里对你发出低沉声音的狗)”和“If a shark is arching and its fins (鳍) are down, it’s telling you to move on.(如果一条鲨鱼呈弓形,它的鳍是下垂的,它是在告诉你继续前进)”可知,狗弓背并发出低沉的喉音说明你并不能接近它,而鲨鱼弓背,垂鳍额的时候说明你可以继续前进。
根据第三段最后一句“He admit he thought the shark was trying to attack him the first few times.(他承认,刚开始的几次,他以为鲨鱼是想攻击他)”可知,Mr Anderson曾经误解了鲨鱼拱背的动作。

16.根据上文“From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don’t cook more often: ability, money, and time.(从我的经验来看,人们不经常做饭的主要原因有三个:能力、金钱和时间)”可推断下文是要就这三方面来说,然后再根据下文对应的金钱和时间,所以空中应该说的是能力,B选项“能力很容易提高”符合语境,故选B。
I usually think cooking is a pain when I’m already hungry and there is nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials already?(想在前面。
18.根据上文“Are you making one loaf of bread?(你在做一条面包吗?)”以及下文“It takes around the same amount of time to make more of something.(制作更多的东西需要相同的时间)”可知,本句要说的是不要一次只做一条面包,既然花相同的时间,就要做更多,C选项“那就做三四个吧”符合语境,故选C。
19.根据下文“This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation.(这可能会让你吃惊,但让烹饪值得你花费时间的最好工具之一就是实验)”可知,本段主要就是要讲尝试新的菜谱,新的做法,所以A选项“尝试新事物”符合本段主题,适合做主旨句,故选A。
20.根据下文“And don’t let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!(不要让繁忙的日程阻碍你在饮食和生活方式上做出一些伟大的改变!)”

A. wakes唤醒,醒来;B. takes拿走,带走;C. gets得到;D. picks挑选。根据空后“him up every morning at five o’clock”,可知,此处指早上五点“起床(get up)”。故选C。
A. sound酣畅地;B. falling下降的;C. fall降落;D. soundly明智地。根据空前后“when most people are still 2 asleep.” 表示“熟睡”时,常用的结构有:be fast asleep,be sound asleep或sleep soundly。 故选A。
A. corner角落;B. street街道;C. room房间;D. department部,处。 故选A。
A. given给;B. addressed在…… 根据空前后“The newspapers were 4 to the corner by truck at midnight.”
A. carry运送;B. bring拿来,带来;C. send寄送;D. load承载。根据空前的“He always takes a wagon to”可知,此处表示他用运货车来运报纸,不强调方向,要用carry,意为“运送”。故选A。
A. whether是否;B. while当……时候;C. that从句中多无意义;D. when当……
A. short短的;B. black黑的;C. light亮点,浅的;D.  long长的。根据空前的“In the winter it is still dark 6 he gets up every day, but during the rest of the year”可知,此处要用前面dark“黑暗的”相对的词light“明亮的”。故选C。
A. road公路;B. way道路;C. route路线;D.  path小路。根据空前后“Billy must send the newspapers to the houses of people on his 8 in all kinds of weather.”
A. protected保护;B. stopped停止;C. kept保持;D. prevented阻止。根据空后“from wind, rain or snow.” 故选A。
A. making让;B. letting让;C. leading领导;D. causing引起。根据空前后“Sometimes his customers give him tips, 10 him very excited.” 若用cause来表达,其结构应该是“cause sb. to be +adj”。故选A。
A. attempt企图;B. job工作;C. work工作,职业;D. struggle奋斗,努力。
A. abroad海外;B. school学校;C. college大学;D. hospital医院。从后边的“他一直渴望去那”判断出,要去的地方绝对不可能是医院,文章第一句“Billy, a hard-working student, is fourteen years old and in the ninth grade.”
A. costs花费;B. spends度过,花费;C. pays支付;D. uses使用。 或use money for sth.
A. paper纸;B. money钱;C. newspapers报纸;D. records记录。根据空前的“Besides that, he 13 the rest of the earnings on records and clothes. Once a month, he has to collect”可知,前边谈的是比利每月辛苦劳动所得的收入和他对这笔收入的利用打算,所以此句讲的应该是他每月一次去收他的钱。故选B。
根据空后“so that he is full of excitement.”
A. over在……上面;B. with和……一起;C. by被,通过;D. of……的。根据空前后“Luckily, he gets greatly supported 16 his family.”
根据空前后“Sometimes, when Billy is sick, his brother offers to deliver the newspapers for him. Once, his father was too 17 to help.”
根据下文后“He dreams that he will get as customers as possible someday.” 表示“对某事高兴”时可用be happy about/with sth.结构,也可用be pleasant/contented/satisfied with sth.
A. most最多的;B. much许多的;C. many很多的;D. more更多的。
A. If that不是正常表达;B. If so如果这样的话;C.  What’s more另外,此外;D. 根据空后“he might win a prize for being an outstanding newspaper boy.” 表示“如果是那样/这样的话”之意时,常用if so,in that case,in this case这样的表达,而不用if that/this这样的结构。故选B。

故填to speak。
