Whether it be a person,an animal, or even an insect, a mother's instincts (本能) are never wrong. This idea rings true for a mother cat who acted fast and sought out help when her kittens were in trouble. This mother cat's quick thinking may have just saved her babies.
In the urban district of Izmir in western Turkey, a cat walked into a regular hospital holding a kitten in her mouth. As the mother cat moved through the hospital, people were surprised to see such a sight, but let her pass. The mother cat asked for help, crying for a long time. She was familiar to the hospital staff, who had been leaving her food and water outside, but they were unaware that she had given birth to kittens.
The mother cat was concerned for her young because they weren't able to open their eyes. After the doctors looked at the kittens, they noticed that they were suffering from eye infections. One of the doctors recalls," We consulted with vets (兽医)and gave medicine as described. When the kittens opened their eyes a short time later, we were excited."Later, they were sent to an animal hospital for further care. The cats are now up for adoption and will hopefully find loving forever homes.
When it comes to mother cats and kittens, kittens completely depend on mothers for the first few months of their lives. Because they are blind and almost deaf until about two or three weeks old, the mother cat must protect them from any threat or danger.Without the mother cat's help, the kittens may not make it to adulthood.
As shown by the mother cat in Turkey, a mother's love and protection knows no bounds. Whether the mom is a human or a cat, mothers will always look out for their babies and make sure they are safe and healthy.
24. Why did the mother cat show up in the hospital?
A. To seek out food. B. To express thanks.

C. They gave them right medicine. D. They operated on them immediately.
26. What makes newly-born cats dependent on their mothers?
A. Their physical state. B. Their eating habit.
C. Their appearance. D. Their behavior.
27. What can we learn from the story?

C. One good turn deserves another. D. God helps those who help themselves.

Wildlife crossings don’t just protect animals. They can also mitigate problems related to wildlife-vehicle collisions (碰撞) and save significant money for a community.
Wildlife crossings are man-made structures that help animals move safely around their habitat. They are often paths under or over another existing road or railway, or underground passages for animals to get past for food or avoiding attacks.
Some animals are unable to migrate to survive. People still rely on highways for business and travel, and animals continue to have mobility needs for survival, though. When new roads are built, animals living in a part of their habitat can greatly increase the number of wildlife vehicle collisions while trying to cross the new barriers.
In a new study, Wisnu Sugiarto, a Washington State University economics doctoral student, examined data for 13 of the 22 wildlife crossings, including bridges and underpasses, in the Washington State. He compared the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions each year before and after the construction of a wildlife crossing. He considered the area within 10 miles of a crossing.
Then he compared his analysis to a separate area in the state with no crossings at all. “The findings reported that wildlife crossing structures reduced the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions by one to three accidents on average per mile per year,” Sugiarto said. “Therefore, building wildlife crossing structures is typically an essential and effective strategy to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions.”
“Trior to working on this research, I wasn’t aware of any strategies to reduce wildlife vehicle collisions. I also thought we couldn’t do much about it, partly because we wouldn’t be able to communicate with wildlife and control their movement,” Sugiarto added. “However, it turns out that there are multiple strategies to deal with issues related to wildlife-vehicle collisions and we can do something about them. ”
It is reported that the government has invested $ 350 million over five years for the construction of wildlife crossings. Every wildlife crossing offers a mean benefit of between $235,000 and $443,000 each year.
28.What does the underlined word “mitigate” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Analyze. B.Reduce. C.Study. D.Discover.
29.What does the third paragraph mainly tell us?
A.How the wildlife crossings are built. B.Why wildlife crossings are necessary.
C.What should be done to cross the roads. D.When wildlife-vehicle collisions happen.
30.What is Sugiarto’s attitude to the construction of wildlife crossings?
A.Tolerant. B.Skeptical. C.Favorable. D.Conservative.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Wildlife crossings save wild animals and money
B.The size of wildlife crossings affects animals greatly
C.Every wildlife crossing has a great effect on road safety
D.Wildlife crossings manage to help animals move safely

Going against the tide of flocking to well-known tourist destinations on vacation, a growing number of holidaymakers in China tend to spend their leisure time at lesser-known tourist attractions. Reverse tourism (逆向旅游)has appeared as a new trend among young holidaymakers in China.
According to data from an online travel agency, the number of rooms booked at hotels in less-traveled cities during the holiday was up 30 percent year-on-year. Bookings for four-star or five-star hotels in less-traveled places all increased at least 10 times. Some lesser-known scenic spots posted double-digit growth during the holiday. Baimaiquan Park in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, received 52,100 visits in the seven days, up 15.78 percent year-over-year.
Besides crowds, some vacationers chose less-traveled places to save on the cost of trips to popular destinations. In addition, lesser-known attractions are not as “commercial” as developed ones and are able to offer more actual experiences and natural encounters. Essentially speaking, total relaxation is becoming a real expectation for many people when they travel. Changes in demand may be the fundamental reason for the popularity of reverse tourism. COVID-19 is another key factor fueling reverse tourism. As precautionary measures continue, traveling has an unpredictable quality. Travelers have thus become more cautious and tend to choose local attractions or places with fewer tourists.
“The rise of reverse tourism is not a bad thing,” said Zhengzhou Daily. It means that vacationers now have more options, which brings more possibilities to the tourism market. More importantly, it noted, the trend is set to force popular destinations to improve themselves instead of resting on their past honor.
Jiang Han, a senior researcher, said that reverse tourism will become one of the future directions for the market. To give a real boost to the tourism market, Jiang suggested that more efforts be made to tap the potential of underrated (被低估了的), lesser-known destinations. It is necessary to dig deeper into the local customs and highlight the local characteristics to improve the quality of local tourism.
32. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The popularity of travel agency in China.
B. The contributions of tourism to the economy.
C. The high income of hotels during holidays.
D. The increasing trend of reverse tourism in China.
33. What may be the root cause of the rise of reverse tourism?
A. The effect of COVID-19. B. Holidaymakers’ changing needs for travel.
C. No improvements in famous spots. D. The cheaper prices of the less-traveled places.
34. What does Zhengzhou Daily think of reverse tourism?
A. It will drop with the recovery of economy
B. It benefits both tourists and the tourism market.
C. It is helpful to spread local culture to tourists.
D. It stops the development of the famous resorts.
35. What is Jiang Han’s advice on developing the tourism market?
A. Finding the potential and features of less-traveled attractions.
B. Improving the management of the local tourism.
C. Upgrading the facilities in tourist areas.
D. Highlighting the local tourism through media.

Dear Sir /Madam,
I’m Li Hua, an exchange student from China. Learning that volunteers are wanted for a classical Chinese music concern to be held in a local concert hall, I feel delighted and decide to apply for the position.
Frankly speaking, it is the intention of improving myself and helping visitors know more about the unique Chinese art form that drives me to seize this golden opportunity.
When it comes to my strengths, not only do I have a good command of English, I am also outgoing and ready to help others, which I think can make me qualified as a volunteer. What’s more, having served a local concert hall in China for nearly two years, I have rich experience in organization and presentation, contributing to my confidence of doing the job well.
I’d appreciate it if you could take me into consideration. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

M: I heard you got a new laptop. Did you buy it yourself?
W: No. It was a birthday present from my father. And my mother bought me a new dress and T-shirt.
Text 2
W: David, I’ve got a fever. I feel sick and can’t concentrate on my exercises.
M: That’s terrible. Let me take you to the school clinic. Then I’ll go to the office and tell Mr. Smith about it.
Text 3
W: Peter, your room is a mess!
M: Bowen did it today. It’s none of my business.
W: He went to a summer camp yesterday. Did you forget it?
Text 4
M: Mary, I plan to propose to Cora this Sunday.
W: What a surprise! Will you propose to her at the place w here you first met?
M: No. I’ve arranged everything at the cinema.
Text 5
W: What did you do yesterday?
M: I bought a pair of shoes. It was a real bargain. I got it half price, saving 30 dollars.
W: It was a really good buy.
Text 6
M:Joy, the three-month summer holiday is coming soon. Do you have any plans for it?
W:Yes. I’m going to visit my friend in Canada first and stay there for a month. My uncle lives in Singapore. And I’ll go there and spend the rest of time traveling.
M:You must be excited about this vacation.
W:Yes. I’ve expected it for a long time.
M: Compared with yours, my plan sounds a bit boring. I will stay at home and meet my old classmates.
W: That’s not bad.
Text 7
W: It took me a whole day to work out only a few math problems. They are so hard.
M: Why not turn to your sister?
W: Come on. It drives her crazy to teach me homework.
M: Exactly. You always spend very little time learning math.
W: I know. But to be honest, I’m not really interested in math.
M:Darling, the math grade is an important part of your overall grade. And a lot of practice will help you. Your teacher thinks you can make great progress in math as long as you work hard.

M: Belinda, your skin looks so clear and smooth. What skin care products do you use?
W: Actually there are no special products. I just changed my lifestyle.

W: I often eat green vegetables, fruits and nuts. I gave up soda and only drink black coffee and water now.
M: Wow. You’re a strong-willed person. I can’t do that like you.
W: It’s not as difficult as you think. Besides, getting a good night’s sleep is a great way to improve skin. But it seems to me that regular exercise is more useful than anything else.
M: I got it. Thank you.
Text 9
M: Sherry, Dad and Mom were out. How about doing housework? They’ll get a shock when they come back.
W: Forget it! You always talk much and do little while I always do everything each time. Mom asked us to help her air quilts and do the laundry last week, but I ended up doing all the work. Just like now, you would rather watch me water the flowers than help me. By the way, have you got my camera repaired?
M: Er... Not yet. But I’d like to have some snacks first.
W: No. You won’t stop if you start eating. Let’s go to the supermarket now. Can you give me a hand with some heavy things when we get back?
M: Of course. Let me just change a coat.
W:OK.
Text 10
Ivan Fletcher loves crazy inventions. He writes a weekly magazine column called “Unbelievable Inventions”. One of his favorite inventions is the Butter Stick. It looks like a stick of glue, but it’s butter. You rub it on the bread instead of using a knife. Another cool invention is Duster Slippers for pets. You put these special shoes on your dog or cat. As the animal runs around your house, it collects dust from the floor. These inventions come from Japan, the home of the crazy invention. Ivan says that the British also invent a lot of crazy things. For example, the other day he found an invention called a Cat Seat Saver. It looks exactly like a sleeping cat but it isn’t real. You put it on your seat if you have to go to the restroom. No one will sit in your seat because they think there’s a sleeping cat on it. Here are some more: Fish Radio. This useful radio is completely waterproof, so you can listen to it in the shower.
