Featuring cutting-edge equipment, new classrooms encourage creative thinking and an interest in the sciences among high-school students across the country, according to a report.
Growing up in a remote town in northwest China’s Gansu Province, 12-year-old schoolgirl Liao Wenting was almost open-mouthed when she found that the head-mounted displays and robotics that she had seen in sci-fi films could be within arms’ reach. Her school, located at the foot of rolling hills in a town of Wenxian County, has built a high-tech-empowered classroom.
The classroom with a little complex structure, covering 137 square meters, features multimedia teaching systems, virtual reality (VR) headsets, 3D printing equipment and other high-tech equipment. Students can also experience such technologies as augmented reality (AR), laser cutting and educational robotics.
Its construction was completed in December 2022. Since then, the school has opened two elective courses in the classroom, graphical programming and 3D printing, each of which has attracted 120 and 20 students respectively. The facilities were donated by the All-China Journalists Association and a tech giant. It is the first such high-tech-empowered classroom in Gansu. Additionally, the enterprise will provide free training services for the school’s information technology teachers and organize regular scientific and technological competitions to motivate youngsters and inspire continuous exploration in the field of technology.
Ran Lingli, an information technology teacher in the school, thinks that the high-tech-empowered classroom, which allows students to have a more hands-on experience with high-tech equipment, is aimed to stimulate their creativity. “I used to provide them with instructions on how to use software like Word and Excel in my class. However, in our newly built classroom, we mainly encourage students to explore their creativity and turn their ideas into reality. With access to resources like the 3D printer, students can bring the objects in their minds to life,” says Ran.
Recently, Ma Feiya, a student in the school, had the opportunity to use the 3D printer to create a pencil case with complicated designs. “It was an incredibly exciting experience to see my model come to life,” she exclaims, “I am eager to continue exploring the possibilities of this field in the classroom.”
1.How did Liao Wenting feel when seeing the high-tech equipment in the classroom?

Social customs and ways of behaving change. Things which were considered impolite many years ago are now acceptable. Just a few years ago, it was considered impolite behavior for a man to smoke on the street. No man who thought of himself as being a gentleman would make a fool of himself by smoking when a lady was in a room.
Customs also differ from country to country. Does a man walk on the left or the right of a woman in your country? Or doesn’t it matter? What about table manners? Should you use both hands when you are eating? Should you leave one on your lap, or on the table?
The Americans and the British not only speak the same language but also share a large number of social customs. For example, in both America and England people shake hands when they meet each other for the first time. Also Englishmen will open a door for a woman or offer their seat to a woman, and so will most Americans. If a dinner invitation is for 7 o’clock, the dinner guest either arrives close to that time or calls up to explain his delay.
The important thing to remember about social customs is not to do anything that might make other people feel uncomfortable, especially if they are your guests. There is an old story about a man who gave a formal dinner party. When the food was served, one of the guests started to eat his peas (豆) with a knife. The other guests were amused or shocked, but the host calmly picked up his knife and began eating in the same way. It would have been bad manners to make his guest feel foolish or uncomfortable.

    D.None of the above.

It is one thing to visit a zoo as an ordinary member of the public but quite another to own a zoo and live in the middle of it; this at times can be a mixed thing. It certainly forces you to rush out at any time of the day or night to watch your charges (收费), but it also means that you are on duty 24 hours of the day and you can find that a fine little dinner party breaks up because some animal has broken its leg, or because the heaters in the snake house have failed. After a year of severe drought, California has seen an abundance of rain since late autumn. Abby Wines, a ranger (护林员) at Death Valley National Park in southern California, predicted that the heavy rainfall would bring us the opportunity to witness one of nature’s most spectacular displays of color and life — a superbloom — in 2023.
A superbloom refers to a large amount of wildflower growth that exceeds the average level for a typical spring. It is actually a rare phenomenon that usually takes place in exceptionally wet winters. Seeds that may have slept in desert soil for years finally receive enough water to blossom in more abundant numbers than you would see in a typical year.
The sight of the superbloom is truly breathtaking. Fields of gold, orange, and purple flowers stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a blanket of colors that can be seen from space.
However, climate change makes the phenomenon increasingly rare. In the distant past, these blooms were often excellent and enormous. As development pushes farther out, more landscapes have been changed to agriculture, and as invasive plants outcompetes the native seedlings, many of California’s spring flower fields are disappearing. In addition, thousands of tourists sometimes step on the flowers and soil, which harms the plant’s ability to adapt and thrive.
Naomi Fraga, director of conservation at the California Botanic Garden, points out that in promoting these locations where massive blooms take place, there isn’t a lot of additional information about how these are actually very fragile (脆弱的) ecosystems. Instead of promoting and sharing specific locations, it’s important to educate the public about the fragility of the ecosystems and the importance of staying on trails which people are allowed to enter.
23.What is the key to a superbloom according to Abby Wines?
    A.Desert soil. B.Warm climate.
    C.Sufficient rainfall. D.High-quality seeds.
24.What does the underlined word “exceeds” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A.Equals to. B.Goes beyond.
    C.Cuts down. D.Sets up.
25.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Reasons for the superbloom being rare.
B.Factors in plants’ adapting to the environment.
C.The relationship between climate and plants growing.
D.The effect of agricultural development on plants flowering.
    26.What does Naomi Fraga advocate?
A.Promoting local tourism by advertising superblooms.
B.Recommending tourists perfect trails to enjoy a superbloom.
C.Strengthening the management of California Botanic Garden.
D.Leading the public to focus more on the ecological environment.

This year, new technologies will enable more drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel (方向盘) while on the road. But that doesn’t mean their cars will be fully self-driving — that day still remains far in the future.
Automakers like General Motors (GM), Ford and Stellantis are introducing, or upgrading existing technologies. But in the words of Kay Stepper, an automated driving expert, these systems are “feet off” and “hands off”, but they will not be “eyes off” or “mind off”.
For the time being, these systems will only be used on limited-access highways, where there are no pedestrians or bicyclists. Vehicles with this technology will be able to drive at relatively high speeds, but only in simple traffic situations.
Bryan Reimer, a researcher with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Age Lab, said it will be -decades before people can buy. truly-self-driving cars in-which humans ride as passengers,
Still, the technology that will be rolled out by the major automakers this year will do more than most so-called Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, or AD AS, do now.
GM’s Super Cruise system allows drivers to completely let go of the steering wheel while driving on selected highways. It was introduced in 2017 on the Cadillac CT6 sedan, which was ds continued last year. An improved version is coming this year on the Cadillac Escalade SUV and the Cadillac CT 4 and CT5 sedans.
Super Cruise only works on highways that have been previously laser-mapped in three dimensions. GPS positioning and the vehicles, radar sensors(传感器) and cameras are used to enable drivers to unh and — and un foot — all the controls.
Drivers still need to pay attention, however. A camera in the car makes sure the driver is looking at the road at all times. If the driver looks away from the road for more than a few seconds, the system will stop working.
27.At present, what can the self-driving cars do?
A.They can drive freely on city streets.
B.They can run without human drivers.
C.They handle complex road conditions on their own.
D.They allow drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel.
28.What can we infer from the words of Kay Stepper?
A.People still need to pay attention.
B.People can’t unhand all the controls.
C.People can look away from the road.
D.People need to trust new technology.
29.What does Paragraph 6 mainly talk about?
A.GM’s latest car models. B.GM’s Super Cruise system.
C.GM’s development plan. D.GM’s close competitors.
30.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.It’s High Time to Get a New Car
    B.The Industrial Revolution Is Underway
C.The Real Self-driving Remains Far Away
D.Super Cruise Does More than Most AD AS

I major in Mechanical Engineering and Political Science. When someone hears what I study, I’m usually meant with two reactions. First up is a small smile with the word “overachiever” on the tip of their tongue. The second is a look of confusion, followed by an exaggerated(夸张的) “why?”. The short answer: I want to be a problem solver, and engineering teaches me how to become that type of person. In addition, I also want to be able to look at the bigger picture.
It’s the beginning of a new year, and a lot of first-years have plans for double or triple majors. However, as most of us quickly realize after that first fall semester, college is a lot! We are unavoidably forced to make choices—do we keep trying to make our double or triple majors work or do we completely switch gears? The thing I wished someone told me on day one is if you’re passionate about something, it’s not going to feel like work. Political Science can be challenging, but to me, it’s fun to read the Constitution(宪法) and see the impact each word has on our interpretation.
This may sound hard to accept, but if you are double or triple majoring because you think you’re in a race with your peers, you’re only running yourself into the ground. Don’t double or triple major if you are doing it for a mark on your resume(简历), because then your life will be a living hell for the next four years. What is going to make you impressive is the passion that you have—whether it be in your study, career, or something else your career and study will enable you to do.
Always think about your “why” when it comes to the schedule a double or triple major entails. Because at the end of the day, it’s going to be you doing the homework—so try to enjoy what you’re doing along the ride for what it’s worth.
31.How do people tend to feel about the writer’s majors?
A.Satisfied or confused. B.Amazed or concerned.
C.Impressed or puzzled. D.Ashamed or challenged.
32.What enables the writer to enjoy learning Political Science?
    A.His enthusiasm for the major.
B.His career planning for the future.
    C.The influence of learning engineering.
D.The value of studying the Constitution.
33.What causes the hard situation of students with multiple majors?
A.Adjusting the schedule for majors constantly.
B.Pursuing multiple majors out of competitive motivation.
C.Making random choices without sufficient consideration.
D.Estimating the difficulty of multiple majoring inaccurately.
34.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A.To promote the concept of multiple majoring.
B.To explain the reasons for choosing a double major.
C.To compare the gains and losses of multiple majoring.
D.To stress the significance of passion in multiple majoring.

We all need to eat, and when we go to buy food at the supermarket we’re offered many choices. But we often buy food that’s been produced in huge amounts and that’s traveled many miles before it ends up on our plate. So for some. growing their own food is a better choice—and it tastes good too!
From growing vegetables in little pots on your balcony to taking care of a small plot of land, there are many ways to produce home-grown food. It can be backbreaking work digging, weeding and watering the soil, but the result is fresh, home-grown fruits and vegetables, helping us keep a ‘five-a-day’ diet.
The recent Covid-19 pandemic lock-down means demand for homegrown food has seen a comeback in the UK. Miriam Dobson-from the University of Sheffield, told the BBC that some people have been Spending a lot of their time on their plots, growing plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables—which, at times, have been challenging to buy in supermarkets. She says “Coronavirus has reminded people of the weakness within our global food system. In such a difficult time, interest in self-support rises.”
But for those with limited space, a solution to grow your own vegetables lies closer to home-using pots. Sheila Brand lives in a third-floor flat in Rotterdam. She has managed to grow tomatoes and eggplants and is already harvesting raspberries. She told the BBC watching the plants grow “is very exciting: ‘Oh it’s got a new leaf!’”
As well as the benefits of saving money and enjoying tasty food, growing your own from a balcony or window ledge not only improves your well-being and immediate environment, you can actually grow a lot of vegetables. So, maybe it’s time for us all to get planting and develop our green fingers!

B.Because our global food system is doing harm to us.
C.Because it saves the time and money on transportation.
D.Because it can be hard to buy fresh food during the pandemic.
40.Where can you grow your own food if you live in a small far?
    A.In a pot. B.On a plate. C.In a garden. D.On the roof.
41.What is the author’s attitude towards home-grown food?
    A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Critical. D.Reserved

People trained to detect lies often rely on multiple signs, such as eye contact, length of responses and the details in what people say, but studies have shown that assessing a wide range of behavioural information can make it harder to decide if someone is lying. Bruno Verschuere at the University of Amsterdam and his colleagues wondered whether solely focusing on the detail of statements could provide more consistent results.
To test this idea, researchers asked 44 students to go for a walk or steal from a mock (模仿的) crime. Students were instructed to lie if they committed the fake theft.
Next, the researchers recruited 171 people to watch six truthful and six deceptive (欺骗的) interviews from these recordings, ranking interviewees’ eye contact and detail level. The results revealed that both truth-tellers and liars averted (转移) their gaze a similar amount, but truthful statements were substantially more detailed than deceptive ones, suggesting the latter is a more useful way to tell that someone is lying.
The researchers then asked 405 people to judge the true nature of six truthful and six deceptive statements randomly chosen from the interviews. Around half of the participants used multiple cues to identify liars. The remaining participants solely ranked the level of detail in answers on a scale of 1 to 10, with1 a 6 or above counting as truthful. Those using multiple cues distinguished lies from the truth 59% of the time, while those relying solely on detail achieved 66%.
“Our take is that using just one cue can provide a simpler way to judge lies from the truth,” says Verschuere. Nevertheless, in the real world, you would probably need to confirm the accuracy of statements through extra further investigations or follow-up questions, he says.
42.Bruno Verschuere and his colleagues conducted the research to confirm that ________.
A.behavioral information played a vital role in finding out the truth
B.people should be trained to detect lies by referring to multiple cues
C.truthtellers and liars shared something in common when performing the task
D.it’s relatively easier to identify liars by relying only on the detail of statements
43.What can we learn from paragraph 3 and 4?
A.Liars turned away their eyes more often than truth-tellers.
B.Truthful statements included considerably more details than deceptive ones.
C.It’s difficult for participants to detect liars by using multiple cues like eye contact.
D.Participants who relied on one cue can distinguish lies from the truth faultlessly.
44.What did Verschuere think of the real-life application of his research?
A.It had some limitations. B.It made no sense.
C.It could be perfectly applied. D.It had no potential market.
45.What’s the purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce readers to the classification of lies.
B.To encourage readers to apply the results in real life.
C.To warn readers of psychological harm of telling a lie.
D.To inform readers of scientific findings on detecting liars.

Humans have always assumed that there is a huge gulf between animal behavior and human development. However, recent research into animals shows that animals are continuously designing innovative methods to finish their tasks. Examining the nature and results of their creativity can help us understand evolution.
Research shows that animals too can be creative. By inventing new behavioral patterns and adapting their behavior to new contexts, as well as to changes in social and ecological environments, researchers show that animal innovation too can be diverse. For instance, chimpanzees (猩猩) use tools such as sharp spines and stalks to remove the hearts of palm vegetables from trees. Herring gulls (鲜鱼海码) found out quite a cruel way of killing rabbits - drowning them in the sea.
Innovative species tend to survive when they enter new places, but behavior cannot be recognized unless “normal” behavior is studied. Researchers can now count and document the innovations that have been created by species, which would help them to quantify their creativity. Studies also show us that all animals are not equally inventive, with primates (灵长目动物) tending to be more innovative due to their bigger brains.
The greatest scientific significance has been the innovation shown by animals such as apes, capuchins and macaques among primates. These species of primates possess the biggest brains in proportion to their body sizes. They are also heavy tool users. Their broad diets and complex forms of learning are also insightful. They indicate an evolutionary strategy that gave them new solutions to life’s challenges.
However, even if these animals show innovativeness, they do not have the ability to improve upon solutions of others. Unless they share information accurately and copy each other’s inventions, their creative inventions are likely to disappear before they can be innovated further. This ability can be managed only by humans, for we are able to build on shared knowledge.
46.What does the underlined word “gulf” in the first paragraph mean?
    A.Connections. B.Conflict. C.Balance. D.Difference.
47.Why does the author mention “chimpanzees” and “Herring gulls” in Paragraph 2?
    A.They are both creative.
B.They are both heavy tool users.
C.They create innovations in different ways.
D.They kill other animals in the same cruel way.

With the development of artificial intelligence, writers are increasingly wrestling with a hard truth: It appears robots are coming for their jobs. Little more than a plaything of researchers a decade ago, AI and automated (自动化的) robots are regularly producing countless articles on a daily basis.
Observes Mayur Bhatt, marketing head, SEO Services Guru: “It is only a matter of time before algorithms (算法) are able to write articles on any topic and for any target group.” Adds noted author Stephen Marche: “Whatever field you are in, if it uses language, it is about to be transformed.” People of writing driven by AI insist the robots are simply here ‘to serve humanity’. Robots will do the hard labor work, they say. Writers will be freed-up to engage in more interesting, more in-depth and more creative work.
But for the many writers and editors who have already lost their jobs to AI, that pleasant future is a tough sell. Consider Radar, a hyper-local news service that has been generating (生成) AI-written articles in the UK since 2017. Instead of using reporters to cover news beats, Radar relies on robots. Those machines mine government databases on crime, health, environment and similar-and then auto-write stories from that data with an extremely local hook. For example: Radar’s AI software can ingest a new government report on crime across the UK, and then auto-generate hundreds of customized (订制的) stories from the study, based on localized data. Each story is hyper-localized to a town or even a smaller community by including data from the government report. The resulting micro-focused stories are sold to news companies throughout Britain-as well as to any other news companies that might be interested. Gary Rogers, editor-in-chief, Radar: “There is open data across all the main beats of news-health, crime, transport, etc. -filled with stories waiting to be told.”
So far, many writers are aware of the adoption of AI-generated writing via a few, well-publicized stories about the tech’s use at major news organizations like Bloomberg, the BBC and The New York Times. But it turns out those above represent only smattering of what’s really going on. A 2021 study found that 15% of news stories are now automatically generated at leading news companies using AI. Moreover, the adoption of AI-generated writing has gone far beyond news-reporting, cropping-up across a wide range of writing jobs.
To date, human beings still best their robot competitors in writing of the highest quality. Even so, the hard fact remains that AI will be producing an increasing number of automated writing in coming years that competes in a world often entrapped in the icy hold of ‘good enough’.
50.What can be infered from the paragraph 2?
A.Algorithms can write articles quickly. B.Writing is more than a pay thing.
C.Writing is hard but interesting. D.AI writing has great potential.
51.How does Radar produce AI-written articles?
A.By including official data. B.By quoting local stories.
C.By selling customized stories. D.By reporting main news beats.
52.What does the underlined word “smattering” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.An unfair fact. B.A small part.
C.An original idea. D.A basic research.
53.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How AI makes writing jobs automated.
B.How AI serves human reporters in writing.
C.How AI is widely accepted in writing.
D.How AI beats human beings in writing.

About a decade ago, Lawson was at a beach in Virginia watching his kids build castles right next to the waves.
“I kept trying to get them to come back because I thought it was a terrible idea,” he remarked. He wanted them to build their sandcastles closer to the dunes (沙丘). But they found it more exciting to build right where the waves hit, seeing their sandcastles get destroyed, and then rebuilding them with whatever debris (残骸) washed up from the ocean. “It seemed so symbolic, somehow, of how life works more than just building your perfect sandcastles,” said Lawson. When he decided to turn that sunny day into a children’s book, the idea came to just use pictures. “It seemed like it would work beautifully without words,” he said.
A Day for Sandcastles is illustrated (加插图) by Qin Leng. It’s the second wordless picture book for Lawson and Leng since 2021’s Over the Shop. Leng’s illustrations stay pretty true to real life. The siblings spend the day building sandcastles and watching them get destroyed by a flying hat. “To me it’s a celebration of childhood and the simple joys of life. These are the things I like to capture (捕捉),” said Leng.
Leng spent part of her childhood in France, and she was inspired by European comic books. “What I love to do when I illustrate a picture book is add side stories to the main storyline. I always think about the readers and the longevity (持久) of the book, and I want them to be able to discover something new every time they revisit the book,” Leng explained.
At the end of the day, the sleepy-eyed kids pile into the bus that will take them home. “Those last pages are some of my favorite. They capture that feeling like at the end of the day on the beach, when it’s getting dark and you feel completely exhausted,” Lawson said. It must be a universal childhood feeling: happy with sand, sticky from the salt, hot from the sun, and ready to fall asleep the moment you get into the car.
54.Why does Lawson mention the scene where the kids built sandcastles?
A.To suggest a way to relax.
    B.To explain how life works.
C.To show the inspiration for his book.
D.To remind readers of their childhood.
55.What can be learned about the two books mentioned?
A.Their readers are limited to young kids.
B.Readers can only find pictures in them.
C.The stories in them are works of fantasy.
D.They carry no features of comic books.
56.How does Lawson feel when talking about the last pages in Paragraph 5?
    A.Surprised. B.Tired. C.Worried. D.Pleased.
57.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.Two Popular Picture Books B.The Simple Joys of Life
C.Childhood in Sandcastles D.An Experience at the Beach

On October 24, 1929 — “Black Thursday” — a wave of panic selling of stocks (股票) swept the New York Stock Exchange. The Great Depression began. By 1932, thousands of banks and businesses had failed. Industrial production was cut in half, farm income had fallen by more than half, wages had decreased 60 percent, new investment was down 90 percent and one out of every four workers was unemployed.
The Republican president, Herbert Hoover was unable to take measures to deal with the economic collapse. So in the 1932 election, he was defeated by Democrat Franklin D.Roosevelt, who promised “a New Deal for the American people”.
Within the “Hundred Days”, Roosevelt rushed through Congress a number of laws to aid the recovery of the economy. The Civilian Conservation Corps put young men to work in reforestation (重新造林) and flood.
The Federal Emergency Relief Administration aided state and local relief funds. The Agricultural Adjustment Administration paid farmers to reduce production, thus raising crop prices. The Tennessee Valley Authority built a network of dams in the Tennessee River area to generate electricity and control floods. The National Recovery Administration regulated fair competition among businesses and minimum wages for workers.
The Work Progress Administration (WPA) was one of the most effective of the New Deal measures. Financed by taxes collected by the federal government, the WPA created millions of jobs by undertaking the construction of roads, bridges, airports and other public buildings. It kept workers in the job, thus preserving their skills and their self-respect. The New Deal programs did not end the Depression. To avoid becoming the head story on the evening news, be prepared. Before you head out on a hike, check the weather, take plenty of water, and make sure someone knows where you’ll be and when you’ll be back. Bring clothes to keep you warm when wet. Avoid cotton, which is easy to take in moisture(潮气).
“To avoid getting lost, check often to make sure you’re still on the trail(路线),”says John Dill, a search-and-rescue worker at Yosemite National Park in California.“The minute you think you might not be on the trail, stop.” If you’re not alone, focusing on the needs of others can help you get rid of your own fears. Other keys to survival: staying observant and remembering to rest.
The surest way to get out alive is to take basic precautions(预防措施), such as taking a set of survival equipment. It includes waterproof matches for starting a fire, a folding knife for cutting branches, and a plastic tarp(防水布) for making shelter.
Generally, people who try to find their own way out get along worse than those who stay, says Richard N. Bradley, MD, of the American Red Cross. Find shelter before dark, and try to keep dry. Stay visible so that anyone searching can see you. In a wide-open area, make a signal with colorful tools, make a big X out of rocks, or dig a long shallow hole.
You can go several days without eating, so in most cases, you’d better not search for food, since there are lots of poisonous plants in the wild, says Dr Bradley. You cannot survive without water, so if you run out of water, it’s usually better to drink from a stream with suspect water than to go without.

B.To store some food you’ve brought along
    C.To attract the rescuer’s attention.
D.To use it as a shelter.

Animals are gentle and often fall victim to cruelty because they trust and don’t fight back. We are so grateful to be able to save our animals and prove to them that the world can be good. Five years ago, six cows pushed through three fences and escaped from a slaughterhouse (屠宰场). However, sadly, they were finally rounded up and retuned to the slaughterhouse. Because it was national news, the community insisted they be allowed to live and even raised money for their freedom. The slaughterhouse owner agreed to release them to a sanctuary (庇护所), but no one came to get them.
Unwilling to see them die, Jay jumped on a red eye flight and got there in time to stop their slaughter. He took “The St Louis Six” to the hospital to be treated for their various wounds and infections. Later, I flew to St Louis to meet them. The minute I saw them, I knew they had a story to share with the world and that we had to help them.
In the coming months, we found a gorgeous property in St Louis and opened a Gentle Barn as home for The St Louis Six. Once scared and desperate to live, now the boys are trusting, loving, and giving hope to humans in our Cow Hug Therapy sessions where they wrap their necks around our guests who come to The Gentle Barm looking for hope.
Animals have always been my greatest teachers. They taught me whether we are trying to survive or looking for a safe home, sometimes we need to leave something behind to find a better way of life. We may be afraid of change, but only when we are brave enough to face the unknown and head out on our own can we realize our dreams!

Chat GPT is a new AI system that sounds so human in conversations that it could host its own radio programs. Reading between its instantly created, perfectly grammatical lines, people see different visions of the future. Without doubt, Chat GPT is impressive.
Some compare the emergence of Chat GPT to the impact of the iPhone, but that doesn’t do it fair. Chat GPT, as well as the creative AI that will follow and outsmart it, is disruptive. And yet, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world is upon us. On the contrary, Chat GPT, I would argue, might serve to make us more aware of our irreplaceable human qualities.
Take the creative act, writing in particular, as an example. If you want it to, the AI-powered chatbot (聊天机器人) always produces something because it has the whole world of online data to draw from. But unlike us, it lacks the consciousness. Thinking is hard, critical thinking even harder, and Chat GPT isn’t good at either. It just restates what has already been said; it is one big recycling machine.
There is another obvious limitation of Chat GPT. Philosopher Harry Frankfurt once claimed: the difference between a bullshitter (胡说八道的人) and a liar is that the liar knows what the truth is but decides to take the opposite direction; a bullshitter, however, has no idea for the truth at all. Chat GPT will reproduce misinformation from any of its input sources — it is not an intelligent system that tries to balance or weigh different perspectives. In this sense, everything that Chat GPT writes is bullshit.
This is why the so-called AIQ is critical. It is actually an extension and a measurement of our human IQ: our overall knowledge of AI tools, our mastery of information, and our ethical awareness. Chat GPT is going to change everything — and nothing. Creativity, imagination and ethics — these will all remain unique human range. It is the AI’s very limitations that will make us appreciate our own.
76.What can we learn about Chat GPT from the passage?
A.It helps produce an artificial voice.
B.It offers a service for language learning.
C.It provides instructions on writing skills.
    D.It produces immediate language responses.
77.What does the underlined word “disruptive” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A.Evil. B.Profitable. C.Revolutionary. D.Reliable.
78.Why does the author consider Chat GPT as a bullshit creator?
A.It makes up lies constantly. B.It can’t tell right from wrong.
C.It often makes unfair judgement. D.It always takes a neutral standpoint.
    79.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.Chat GPT is causing panic now.
B.Chat GPT is probable to produce bullshit.
C.Chat GPT should be treated like a toy, not a tool.
D.Chat GPT makes us realize the unique human features.

In addition, thousands of tourists sometimes step on the flowers and soil, which harms the plant’s ability to adapt and thrive. 故选A。
根据最后一段“Naomi Fraga, director of conservation at the California Botanic Garden, points out that in promoting these locations where massive blooms take place, there isn’t a lot of additional information about how these are actually very fragile (脆弱的) ecosystems. Instead of promoting and sharing specific locations, it’s important to educate the public about the fragility of the ecosystems and the importance of staying on trails which people are allowed to enter. (加州植物园的保护主任娜奥米·弗拉加指出,在宣传这些大规模开花的地方时,并没有很多关于这些生态系统实际上是多么脆弱的额外信息。与其宣传和分享特定的地点,不如教育公众生态系统的脆弱性,以及在允许人们进入的小径上行走的重要性。)”可推断,娜奥米·弗拉提倡引导公众更加关注生态环境。故选D。

44.推理判断题。根据最后一段中““Our take is that using just one cue can provide a simpler way to judge lies from the truth,” says Verschuere. Nevertheless, in the real world, you would probably need to confirm the accuracy of statements through extra further investigations or follow-up questions, he says.(然而,在现实世界中,你可能需要通过额外的进一步调查或后续问题来确认陈述的准确性,他说。)” 故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段“People trained to detect lies often rely on multiple signs, such as eye contact, length of responses and the details in what people say, but studies have shown that assessing a wide range of behavioural information can make it harder to decide if someone is lying. 46.词句猜测题。根据第一段中的“However, recent research into animals shows that animals are continuously designing innovative methods to finish their tasks.(然而,最近对动物的研究表明,动物不断地设计创新的方法来完成它们的任务。)”可知,动物在不断创新来完成它们的任务,这一行为与人类是相同的,副词however表示前后意思相反,由此可知,划线单词所在的句子认为动物的行为与人类的行为之间有所不同,所以划线词gulf的意思应该与“不同”意思相近。故选D项。
47.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Research shows that animals too can be creative. By inventing new behavioral patterns and adapting their behavior to new contexts, as well as to changes in social and ecological environments, researchers show that animal innovation too can be diverse. (研究表明,动物也有创造力。通过发明新的行为模式并使其行为适应新的环境,以及社会和生态环境的变化,研究人员表明动物的创新也可以是多样化的。)”可知,研究表明,动物也有创造力,而且它们的创新也可以是多样化的,下文中为了说明这一研究发现而列举猩猩和银鸥,由此可知,列举猩猩与银鸥的目的是为了证明动物在以不同的方式创新。故选C项。

It kept workers in the job, thus preserving their skills and their self-respect.(公共事业振兴署(WPA)是新政中最有效的措施之一。
根据最后一段中“The New Deal programs did not end the Depression.(新政的措施并没有结束大萧条。)”

根据第一段“To avoid becoming the head story on the evening news, be prepared. Before you head out on a hike, check the weather, take plenty of water, and make sure someone knows where you’ll be and when you’ll be back.”(为了避免成为晚间新闻的头条新闻,请做好准备。
根据第二段““To avoid getting lost, check often to make sure you’re still on the trail(路线),”says John Dill, a search-and-rescue worker at Yosemite National Park in California.”(“为了避免迷路,经常检查以确保你仍在路上,”加利福尼亚州约塞米蒂国家公园的搜救人员约翰·迪尔说。) 故选A项。
根据最后一段“You can go several days without eating, so in most cases, you’d better not search for food, since there are lots of poisonous plants in the wild, says Dr Bradley.”(布拉德利博士说,你可以连续几天不吃东西,所以在大多数情况下,你最好不要寻找食物,因为野外有很多有毒植物。) 故选A项。
根据第四段“Stay visible so that anyone searching can see you.In a wide-open area, make a signal with colorful tools, make a big X out of rocks, or dig a long shallow hole.”(保持可见,以便任何搜索者都能看到您。

根据第一段的“Because it was national news, the community insisted they be allowed to live and even raised money for their freedom. The slaughterhouse owner agreed to release them to a sanctuary (庇护所), but no one came to get them.(因为这是全国性的新闻,社区坚持让他们活下去,甚至为他们的自由筹集资金。屠宰场的主人同意把它们放归保护区,但没有人来接它们。)”可知,屠宰场的老板放弃了杀牛是因为社区敦促他这样做。故选A。
根据倒数第二段的“In the coming months, we found a gorgeous property in St Louis and opened a Gentle Barn as home for The St Louis Six.(在接下来的几个月里,我们在圣路易斯找到了一处漂亮的房产,并开了Gentle Barn,作为The St Louis Six的家。)”
根据第二段的“Unwilling to see them die, Jay jumped on a red eye flight and got there in time to stop their slaughter.(Jay不愿看到他们死去,他跳上了红眼航班,及时赶到那里,阻止了对他们的屠杀。)”和“The minute I saw them, I knew they had a story to share with the world and that we had to help them.(当我看到他们的那一刻,我知道他们有一个故事要与世界分享,我们必须帮助他们。)”
根据最后一段的“Animals have always been my greatest teachers. They taught me whether we are trying to survive or looking for a safe home, sometimes we need to leave something behind to find a better way of life. We may be afraid of change, but only when we are brave enough to face the unknown and head out on our own can we realize our dreams!(动物一直是我最好的老师。它们教会了我,无论我们是在努力生存,还是在寻找一个安全的家,有时候我们需要放下一些东西,去寻找更好的生活方式。我们可能害怕改变,但只有当我们勇敢地面对未知,独自出发时,我们才能实现我们的梦想!)”可知,作者被动物们的勇敢所鼓舞。故选C。

    【导语】本文是一篇应用文。主要介绍了四个英国的旅游景点。
73.细节理解题。根据小标题Stonehenge中“Located on Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge is older than all of the pyramids in Egypt—more than 5,000 years old and the site was worked on for around 1.500 years, which will take you by surprise. (巨石阵位于索尔兹伯里平原,比埃及所有的金字塔都要古老——已有5,000多年的历史,该遗址被建造了大约 1.500 年,这会让您大吃一惊。)”可知会让游客惊讶的是巨石阵的悠久历史。故选A项
根据小标题Bath中“To visit Britain’s one and only natural thermal spa (温泉). Try the Roman Baths that were constructed around 70 AD for an experience of a lifetime. (参观英国唯一的天然温泉浴场。尝试建于公元70年左右的罗马浴场,享受一生难忘的体验。)”可知Bath特别的原因在于它有一个极棒的温泉浴场。故选C项。
75.细节理解题。根据Lake District中的“The Lake District is a mountainous area, with some over 3,000 feet providing the best rock and winter climbing in the UK. (湖区是一个山区,有些超过3,000英尺,提供了英国最好的攀岩和冬季攀岩)”可知,Lake District适合户外运动者。故选D项。

    【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章论述了新型人工智能Chat GPT的优点和缺点,从而指明自己的观点——只有人类具有创造力、想象力和道德这些独特的品质。
76.推理判断题。根据第一段“Chat GPT is a new AI system that sounds so human in conversations that it could host its own radio programs. Reading between its instantly created, perfectly grammatical lines, people see different visions of the future. ”(Chat GPT是一种新的人工智能系统,在对话中听起来很人性化,可以主持自己的广播节目。在它瞬间创造的、完美的语法线条之间阅读,人们看到了对未来的不同愿景。)可知,Chat GPT是一个聊天机器人,它可以产生即时的语言回复。故选D项。
77.词句猜测题。根据第二段划线单词的后一句“And yet, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world is upon us.”(然而,这并不一定意味着世界末日即将来临。)
根据第三段“But unlike us, it lacks the consciousness. Thinking is hard, critical thinking even harder, and Chat GPT isn’t good at either.”(但与我们不同的是,它缺乏意识。 及第四段“Chat GPT will reproduce misinformation from any of its input sources — it is not an intelligent system that tries to balance or weigh different perspectives. In this sense, everything that Chat GPT writes is bullshit.”(Chat GPT将从其任何输入源复制错误信息——它不是一个试图平衡或权衡不同观点的智能系统。
根据第二段“On the contrary, Chat GPT, I would argue, might serve to make us more aware of our irreplaceable human qualities.”(相反,我认为,Chat GPT可能会让我们更加意识到我们不可替代的人类品质。)及最后一段“Creativity, imagination and ethics — these will all remain unique human range. It is the AI’s very limitations that will make us appreciate our own.”(创造力、想象力和伦理这些都将保持人类独有的范围。
