Guide to Stockholm University Library
Our library offers different types of studying places and provides a good studying environment.
Zones
The library is divided into different zones. The upper floor is a quiet zone with over a thousand places for silent reading, and places where you can sit and work with your own computer. The reading places consist mostly of tables and chairs. The ground floor is the zone where you can talk. Here you can find sofas and armchairs for group work.
Computers
You can use your own computer to connect to the wi-fi specially prepared for notebook computers; you can also use library computers, which contain the most commonly used applications, such as Microsoft Office. They are located in the area known as the Experimental Field on the ground floor.
Group-study Places
If you want to discuss freely without disturbing others, you can book a study room or sit at a table on the ground floor. Some study rooms are for 2-3 people and others can hold up to 6-8 people. All rooms are marked on the library maps.
There are 40 group-study rooms that must be booked via the website. To book, you need an active University account and a valid University card. You can use a room three hours per day, nine hours at most per week.
Storage of Study Material
The library has lockers for students to store course literature. When you have obtained at least 40 credits (学分), you may rent a locker and pay 400 SEK for a year’s rental period.

It’s hard to talk to dad sometimes. His silence about his feelings and thoughts made him mysterious and hard to see through. You could never break his hard shell and get to know him. And he seemed to want to stay that way too.
But a year ago when my relationship with my wife and career took a hit, I needed my dad to pull back the curtain so I could see him as real and accessible. I was facing serious problems, and I wanted to know whether he had faced them before and how he had found his way, because I felt like I had lost mine. In desperation, it occurred to me that sending an email might be the key, so I wrote him one, telling him about my regrets and fears, and I asked him to answer, if he felt like it.
Two weeks later, it showed up in my inbox: a much-thought, three-page letter. Dad, a 68-year-old retired technologist and grandfather of four, had carefully considered my message, and crafted a response. He mentioned his lost love, the foolish mistake he made in career and the stupid pride he had between him and his parents. He comforted me that “life will still find its right track despite many of its twists and turns.”
I closed the email and started to cry, because I wished I had opened up earlier but was grateful it wasn’t too late. I cried because at 33, in the midst of my own struggles, his letter instantly put me at ease. And I cried because in the end, it was so simple: I just had to hit “Send.”
We’ve since had many email exchanges. This increasing communication opened a door into his world. My problems haven’t been magically solved, but getting to know my dad better has made the tough stuff more manageable and life sweeter. It’s hard to talk to dads sometimes, but I’m glad I found a way to talk to mine.
24. The author’s dad can be best described as ______.
A. selfish and lonely B. optimistic and careless
C. quiet and caring D. indifferent and serious
25. The underlined part in Paragraph 2 can be best replaced by “______”.
A. show his true self B. become more optimistic
C. draw the curtain D. clear the misunderstanding
26. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. I was moved when reading the email.
B. My dad’s email was quickly written.
C. The email contained much information.
D. I wished I could have consulted him earlier.
27. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. The author regretted not writing to dad earlier.
B. Dad’s letter of reply is simple.
C. Dad helped settle the author’s problems.
D. The author can talk to his dad easily.
【答案】24. C 25. A 26. B 27. A

A survey has shown that what you do on a plane can be determined by which nationality is listed on your passport.
According to the results of an international passenger survey. Australians are the biggest drinkers on board with 36 percent choosing to down the hatch (干杯), compared to 35 percent of Americans and 33 percent of Brits.
The Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) spoke to around 1,500 people, aged 18 and older, who have travelled by plane at least once during the last three months and were living in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, China, Singapore, Australia and Brazil.
The results found Chinese travelers are most likely to nod off (打瞌睡) once the seat-belt sign switches off. They are also the first to take out their credit card for some in-flight shopping and the biggest fans of gaming. Americans on the other hand like to use their time in the air more productively—when not drinking—choosing to work while flying at 35,000 feet.
Meanwhile, Brits and Germans are the best at making chats with random strangers—spending 50 percent more time than any other nationality. Comparatively, Brazilians conduct their conversations online via email, messaging apps or social media.
Despite plane food having a bad reputation, seven out of ten interviewees said they were happy to eat up on the selection of in-flight snacks and meals. In-flight magazines were also popular with four out of five passengers.
The international flyers did however express their desire for better in-flight entertainment. “The industry has greatly improved the comfort, entertainment and onboard service, and passengers are accepting those improvements”, said Russell Lemieux, APEX executive director. “At the same time, passengers are demanding more from their air travel experiences which will drive more improvements touching all aspects of the journey”, he added.
28. What can you probably see in the flight according to the passage?
A. Germans chat to kill the time. B. Brazilians choose to drink.
C. Americans do in-flight shopping. D. The Chinese switch off the seat-belt sign.
29. When on board the plane, ______.
A. passengers from one nation have little in common
B. most passengers like to read in-flight magazines
C. more than half of the passengers don’t enjoy plane food
D. most people tend to use in-flight time to have a good sleep
30. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Flyers have more and more demands from airlines.
B. Flyers are not satisfied with the improvements.
C. Flyers are expecting better flight experiences.
D. Flyers care little about entertainment.
31. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To entertain readers with interesting stories. B. To inform readers of the results of a survey.
C. To criticize impolite behaviors on the plane. D. To encourage people to behave well in public.

On November 18, 2020, state workers who were tracking sheep were flying over the Utah desert in a helicopter. They noticed an object that is called monolith later, and landed nearby to see what it was. It was a shiny, three-sided metal column about 3.7 meters tall and planted solidly in the middle of the desert.
Bret Hutchings, who flew the helicopter, said, “I have to admit, that's been about the strangest thing that I've come across out there in all the years of flying.” The shape of the monolith and its strange appearance in the desert have reminded people of a black monolith in the science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. In that movie, the monolith was also unexplained, but it appeared to have been created by creatures from another world.
Some people say that the monolith appears to be similar to artwork created by some well-known artists. But one of the possible artists died in 2011. Two others have said that the work is not theirs.
Still, people working for the government believe that the monolith was most likely put there as an art project. But they note that it was quite a difficult task. The monolith is in a hard-to-reach spot somewhere in the 93,000 square kilometers of Utah land managed by the US Bureau of Land Management(BLM). Delivering the column that seems valuable to that location in the traditional way would have required moving very heavy materials. They must have thought of other ways.
One metal statue in the desert may not cause too many problems for the sheep, but what if lots of people decide to visit the site? That's one reason the BLM hasn't released where it is. The BLM is also afraid that the monolith might encourage other artists to plant other similar artworks in the desert. That's something that the department doesn't want to happen. Anyway, the government still hasn't decided whether to remove the monolith or let it remain.
32. Why did the author mention the science fiction movie?
A. To explain the film was imaginary. B. To show the monolith is strange.
C. To make the text more interesting. D. To prove what Bret said was true.
33. What do we know about the monolith according to the text?
A. It was created by aliens from another planet.
B. Some artists made it by copying an art project in a Sci-Fi movie.
C. BLM transported the heavy materials to the desert in a traditional way.
D. It remains puzzling how the monolith was made and transported to the desert.
34. What has the BLM decided to do with the monolith?
A. Keep its location secret. B. Get it removed at once.
C. Preserve it as an artwork. D. Make it a tourist attraction.
35. Which one can be the best title of the text?
A. Metal Column Planted in the Ground
B. Man-made Column Drawing Attention
C. Unusual Monolith Found in the Desert
D. Monolith Presenting Strange Appearance
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. A 35. C

【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是培养自我管理能力的技能。
【36题详解】
根据空前的“There is no one easy or simple way to learn it, as everyone’s mind works differently from another.(没有一种简单或简单的方法来学习它,因为每个人的思维方式都不同。)”可知,人们的思维方式不同,所以没有一种简单的方法可供学习,空后的“Here’s a list of ways to develop self-management skills.(以下是发展自我管理技能的方法列表。)”可知,下面讲述自我管理的几种方法,由此可推断,此空处应为承上启下,C选项“But there are certain things that work for most.(但是有些事情对大多数人都有效。)”中的but为解题关键,将内容从空前过渡到空后,起到承上启下的作用。故选C项。
【37题详解】
根据本段的主题“Have goals(有目标)”可知本段主要讲述的是要拥有目标,根据空前的“You can certainly have more than one goal.(你当然可以有多个目标。)”可知,目标可以有不止一个,E选项“As long as you have a clear schedule, it’s possible for you to achieve them all.(只要你有明确的时间表,你就有可能实现所有这些目标。)”中的代词them指代的是这些目标,且与主题相关。故选E项。
【38题详解】
根据空后的“For example, they usually like studying for a few hours now and then they can hang out with their friends later.(例如,他们通常喜欢偶尔学习几个小时,然后他们可以和朋友出去玩。)”可知,此空处表述的内容应是他们能够计划好当前和以后的事情,F选项“They’re able to think in advance about what they need to accomplish now or later.(他们能够提前考虑他们现在或以后需要完成什么。)”中的代词they与空后内容指代一致,且“now or later”与空后的内容语境吻合。故选F项。
【39题详解】
分析篇章结构可知,此处应为本段的小标题,结合前面的两个小标题为祈使句可知,此空处应为祈使句,所以A选项和B选项符合条件,根据该段中的“If you fail to hit your goals, adjust your goals to make up for your past mistakes. Take a step back and assess (评估) what you are doing and change it. (如果你没有达到你的目标,调整你的目标来弥补你过去的错误。退后一步,评估你正在做的事情并改变它。)”可知,该段主要讲述的是诚实地评估自己,B选项“Assess yourself honestly”内容与主题吻合。故选B项。
【40题详解】
根据空前的“It’s okay not to reach goals, as long as you can acknowledge it honestly and make positive changes towards meeting your goals.(没有达到目标没关系,只要你能诚实地承认它,并为实现你的目标做出积极的改变。)”可知,只要承认自己没有实现目标,并积极做出调整去实现你的目标就可以,G选项“This step is especially hard because you want to feel good about yourself and achieve your goals.(这一步特别困难,因为您想自我感觉良好并实现目标。)”中的this step指代的是空前的做法。符合语境。故选G项。

Aimed at providing a platform where students can have a chance to exchange and make use of their books, the annual campus book fair will soon be held in our school. The fair will attract a huge crowd from the entire school, who are to sell, purchase and exchange their books with their peers.
As a regular visitor, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn by the fair. For one thing, the fair exhibits books of hundreds of types on diverse topics, motivating us to further develop our reading habits and helping to broaden our horizons.
