1 And in a way we totally mean that, but Fashion Tourism goes a step forward. Fashion Tourism is defined as the phenomenon of people travelling to and staying in places outside their environment to enjoy, experiment and possibly consume fashion.
But don't just picture yourself travelling to Lisbon and visiting one of Louis Vuitton or Miu Miu shops and buying a clutch (限量款)! 2 Fashion Tourism will not only make your credit card go crazy.
Fashion Tourism will give you something to tell your friends when you come back home. It will make you wear clothes that you are not brave enough to wear in your home town. 3 Not mentioning buying the latest fashion magazines in foreign countries finding wonderful bargains in street markets, going to fashion museums and even trying to get inside a fashion show!
So you may ask why we would go across the world to buy things in different stores. 4 We shop for essentials on holiday, to experience local culture through an engagement with local products and local crafts people. Are you often getting angry? Do you often feel gloomy and down in your life? If the answer is “yes”, then maybe you have a Type D personality.
People with a Type D personality usually lack confidence and have a great fear of disapproval (反对).This stops them from opening up to others. 6 The right thing is that they might be interested in people but afraid of communicating with them, because they don’t want to be turned down by others.
Additionally, bad feelings such as worry, stress, depression (抑郁) and anger visit Type D people more often.A small event that is usually overlooked by others can upset them a lot, or even ruin their moods.
7 The first thing you must understand about personality types is that they have nothing to do with genes (基因).Having a Type D personality doesn’t mean that you can’t change it.Learn to control your emotions, overcome the fear of disapproval and learn to express your feelings to others.
Or, are you a Type A, B or C person? The personality theory describes Type A people as outgoing, energetic and organized. 8 .They set deadlines (截止日期) and achieve them strictly. They also hate delays of any kind.“I’m late.I’m late!” could be their pet phrase. For their attention on time, people with a Type A personality also tend to feel anxious and over-stressed.
Different from Type A group, people with a Type B personality are laid-back.They have the ability to relax and enjoy small achievements. They seldom get stressed or depressed. However, individuals with such a personality have their weakness. 9
To be brief, people with a Type C personality are perfectionists (完美主义者).They tend to take their time and check their work over and over again.Time is not that important to Type C people. 10 Because of their focus on details, they like to get to the bottom of things, and are often asking “why” or “how” something works.
A.What really matters is the detail.
B.What can you do with such a personality?
C.There is a misunderstanding of personality.
D.Time is of the utmost importance to them.
E.They are often the last ones to complete their work or study.
F.They spend a small portion of their time doing something to relax.
G.But thinking that Type D people lack social interests is not correct.

Earnest Hemingway’s story “The Capital of the world” is about a father and his teenager son, Paco. The son wants to become a matador to escape his father’s control so he runs away to the capital, Madrid. 11 Only a simple message is published—‘Dear Paco, meet me in front of the Madrid newspaper office tomorrow at noon. All is forgiven. I love you.’ Hemingway continues, “The next day at noon in front of the newspaper office there were 800 ‘Pacos’ all seeking forgiveness.”
Hemingway’s story captures the human need to be forgiven. While there is no guarantee that those we hurt will forgive us, we should still try. 12
13 This will only make things worse. Instead, we should express our deepest regret for the pain we cause—sometimes that acknowledgement is all that’s needed. 14 But we can find peace knowing that we did the right thing in asking forgiveness even though the outcome wasn’t what we hoped and wanted.
15 It is very hard at first and needs a long period of time. When we forgive others, it doesn’t mean that we forget what they have done. What it does mean is that we are no longer emotionally and spiritually disturbed by their actions. Life is too short; we must learn to forgive.
A.How to forgive someone who has hurt us?
B.Forgiveness can be hard to acquire, but it’s not impossible.
C.How do you feel when your life is full of hatred and regret?
D.The son finds it hard for his father to forgive his misbehavior.
E.One key thing in seeking forgiveness is to not make excuses for our actions.
F.If the person can’t forgive us, we must accept it as a consequence of our actions
G.The father, eager to find his son, follows him and puts an ad. in the newspaper.

Practical Ways to Show Respect for a Friend
·Show respect for their life choices and decisions. Accept that people aren't always going to be just like you. They will make different life choices, have different views on politics and religion, and act differently in many ways. This doesn't mean they can't be your friends. 16
·Give them the benefit of the doubt.
17 If you're in doubt about something, ask your friends. Be respectful and give them the benefit of the doubt when you don't do. This alone will help you stay in their good graces(好感).
    ·Give friends your full attention.
One of the best ways to show respect for someone is to listen to them carefully. Allow them to pause, convey non-verbal communication clues, collect their thoughts, and get it all out. Too often friends listen with half an ear or jump in the minute their friend pauses with an even worse story. 18 When your friend is talking, pay attention.
    · 19
Treat your friends respectfully when you argue with them. Make your friendship a safe place by not embarrassing your friend or expressing your private disagreements in front of other people. Be publicly supportive and kind to your friends so that they know you value your friendship with them.
·Show up, be there, and do what you say you' re going to do.
20 So just show your friend the best kind of respect by being on time, keeping promises, and being the friend they can always count on. That's the way to truly show respect.
A.Assumptions can be a dangerous thing.
B.Consider your friendship a precious gift.
C.This type of behaviour is very disrespectful.
D.Tell your friends what you think about them directly.
E.In fact, you can almost do nothing but accept the differences.
F.It means that you'll need to take a step back, reserve judgement, and show respect.
G.No one likes an unreliable friend who says he'll be there and then doesn't show.

Many candidates pursue an MBA with hopes of altering their career paths. In our current environment with declining economic conditions, this is likely to be an increasingly common strategy.
However, applicants looking to change careers should put in some extra work now to show that your desired career is both authentic and attainable. 21
Here are some actions you can take while you complete your MBA application essays and interviews.
Do your research. Know the role and industry that you desire to join and understand the skills required for success. Check LinkedIn to see where MBA graduates are going and talk to friends or former classmates who work in the field. 22 The more you know about your future industry, the more authentic your essays will sound as you begin to articulate (清楚说明) your goals.
Look for extracurricular work in your target industry. Volunteering in your future industry or function can be a great way to not only solidify (使……固化) your interest, but also show the reader that you have truly given this future career some serious thought and consideration. 23
Point out similarities between your current role and future goals. It is important to show admission committee members that you are set up to succeed. Even if you are not able to gain experience in your future industry, there are likely to be past experiences you can draw upon. 24 Besides, point out how you have already developed and shown these skills.
25 This is particularly important if you are not currently working. It will be crucial to show that you have used time in between jobs effectively. Taking additional coursework can be a great way to improve your competitiveness.
    A.Understand the industry’s career path.
B.Make a personal tie to your future career.
    C.Consider short-term educational opportunities.
D.This will help add attraction to your overall story.
E.Consider related activities to attract the attention of the reader.
F.Think about the most important criteria for success in your future role.
G.This is even truer for applicants who might have been recently laid off.

Your high school years are part of the most formative (形成的) years of your life. 26 Though challenging, it is possible to be in high school and career ready. Here are some tips to help you choose a career path.
27 This list should consist of all the professions, starting from the ones that interested you as a child to the ones you’re interested in right now, regardless of how strange they seem.
Explore the professions. Once you’ve created a list, it’s time to do research. 28 All you need to do is read relevant articles, get more information about your potential dream career and learn more about the jobs on your list.
Make a self-assessment. The final decision about your career choice should be based on you, your interests, hobbies, personality and preferences. To ensure that you choose a career that is right for you, you’ll need to ask yourself where you see yourself in 10 years. 29
Make a shortlist. Now, after you’ve gone through all the steps above, it’s time to narrow down further. 30 By the time you make the final decision. You’ll already be aware of the requirements of your career path. At this stage, you should have a career plan to help you achieve your goals and get in your dream career path.
    A.Create a list of professions.
B.It greatly reflects what you want to do.
C.It only requires careful thinking and planning.
D.As a result, the time comes when you have to choose the right career path.
E.Well, different careers require a set of specific skills, talents and qualifications.
F.Don’t worry; this research is nothing similar to what you do for your term papers.
G.Look at the career choices on your list again and leave out some choices based on what you’ve learned from your research.

    Building a lasting social relationship
We all know that friends are special people who we share our lives with, and who share their lives with us in return. But seeking friends and keeping the friendship going are never easy.
According to research recently published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, the key is to use "we--talk". Led by University of California psychologist Megan Robins and her colleagues, the researchers reviewed and analyzed 30 different studies involving over 5, 000 participants. 31
The word "we" moves people from an individual position into a partnership, which makes us more interdependent. “ 32 Word use is a window into what people are thinking and feeling without asking them. " Robbins told Science Daily.
33 The primary point is that interdependence may bring about supportive and relationship-centered behaviors and positive perceptions of the partner-especially important in times of stress and disagreement.
Contrary to "we-talk", there is "I-talk", which refers to the frequent use of the first-person singular pronouns, such as "I", "me" and "mine", when writing or speaking. Earlier this year, researchers analyzed a set of data that came from 47, 000 people in Germany and the US. 34 As you can see from the two studies, too much "I-talk" can make you feel depressed. But "we-talk" can encourage you to become more positive and create a chain effect of healthy interdependence with others.
So next time you are talking to a friend, try using more "we-talk". 35
A.Their research also found that "we talk" is helpful for resolving conflicts.
B.Self-centered people are found to be indifferent to many things in society and other people.
C.Pronouns offer an insight into whether people see themselves as individuals or as part of a whole.
D.If you are speaking in a person context, you're speaking about something that's of relevance to you.
E.You may find yourself feeling more positive - and the effect it will have on your friend will be positive as well.
F.This analysis of "we-talk" suggested that the frequent use of "we" and "us" is linked to happier and healthier relationships.
G.They found that too much "I-talk" was an accurate linguistic marker for the likelihood that someone is feeling stressed or experiencing negative emotions.

Not many people have an emergency fund even though it is essential. It will become your financial buffer (缓冲)in case something unexpected occurs. 36 You can one day tell yourself you’ll finally start saving up, but with the bills you need to pay and the other needs you must consider, your plan might fail. Here are a few aspects for you to consider when you wish to succeed in saving your rainy day fund.
Usually, it is suggested that you save a total of three to six months’ worth of expenses. 37 And if you get overwhelmed by the amount you need to save, you might become discouraged and fail. To settle the issue, forget about that suggestion. You should decide how much you want to save initially. For instance, you can just start with one month's worth of expenses. 38
Budgeting is also important if you want to be financially healthy. Note what expenses are non-negotiable, such as your living expenses and food. 39 It's not bad to spoil yourself sometimes, as long as the price is reasonable relative to your current financial situation.
40 For instance, those who wish to pursue higher education will need to budget and save up for their school expenses. Even if they go to an affordable educational institution, other school-related expenses can still be quite a lot. So, knowing how to budget will help them survive school without falling much into debt.
A.Therefore, you need to find a way to deal with it.
B.Budgeting can help improve your academic performance.
C.And when you achieve that, then you can set a higher goal.
D.However, saving an emergency fund is easier said than done.
E.Set aside some money for some non-essential expenses as well.
F.But it's not that easy to set aside such a huge amount all of a sudden.
G.Learning how to budget will be useful in other areas of your life as well.

Music influences your emotions. In turn, your emotions influence your behavior. One of these is your food intake. 41 What does science say about this subject?
Researchers at the University of Arkansas studied how music influences people when they eat in a restaurant. For the study, they used four types of music: jazz, classical, rock, and hip-hop. Their results showed that people had more appetite when they listened to jazz music while they ate. 42 This has a lot to do with emotions. For instance, when you listen to music with harmonic rhythms like jazz, you feel happier. This increases your appetite.
However, another study published in Psychological Reports suggests it isn’t only increased appetite that causes people to eat more. 43 A more stimuli-filled environment makes you eat more. In fact, they tend to urge you on to eat and even “encourage” you to eat faster. On the other hand, if the atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed, you’re likely to feel more relaxed and spend more time enjoying yourself. For this reason, you’ll tend to eat less.
Besides, the study conducted by the Journal of the Academy suggests that the volume of music can also have an effect on how you eat. More specifically, the study states that, with low-volume music, you eat better because you make healthier choices. On the other hand, the study claims that music at high volume increases stimulation and stress. 44
For this reason, restaurants should consider the fact when thinking about the optimization of their products and services. 45 They equip themselves with the technology needed to provide memorable experiences through music, greatly strengthening their relationship with the customer.
A.Does music influence how you eat?
B.Being in a rush to eat also plays a part.
C.Does your emotion boost your appetite?
D.However, they had less appetite when listening to hip-hop.
E.In fact, many catering establishments have already taken action.
F.This could prove to be quite an interesting concept for restaurants.
G.This means you’re more likely to order comfort food or other unhealthy options.

Culture is a popular word in sport. Coaches often relate the cause of their success or failure to this word. 46
The short answer is, while the cultures of some sports teams can create long-term success, others will only deliver success in the short term, if at all. Culture is a key factor in the success of any organized group. So what is a sports team’s culture?
Every team has a culture. 47
Culture is a measure of the observable behaviors your team promotes and accepts. Basically, culture is best defined simply as “the way we do things around here” or “the way we behave around here”. 48 Some teams support a certain culture but actually behave in a very different way. Your team’s culture leads to either effective and productive results or ineffective and unproductive results.
Now that we have begun to illustrate the importance of culture, what are the benefits of having a culture that is consistent throughout your organization or at your team level?
49 Research has shown that when employees and senior leaders have the same view of the culture, the level of employee (including satisfaction, commitment and likelihood of recommending their organization as a great place to work) is much higher than in less consistent cultures. To put it frankly, when culture is consistent, everyone wins.
Unfortunately, there’s not as much research about team culture in a sporting context. 50 There are many elements of organizational culture that are directly applicable in a sporting context.
A.Even if you do not know what yours is, one exists.
B.Consistent cultures tend to have more engaged people.
C.But why should you care about your sports team’s culture?
D.A different and unique culture can be one of your team’s disadvantages.
E.Culture is neither what you think nor want to do, but rather what you do.
F.The real question here is: what are the reasons for the success of a sports team?
G.However, we can draw much from business-focused research, as in the end “people are people”.

    Ways to better your immune(免疫的)system
Your immune system does a remarkable job of defending you against disease-causing microorganisms(微生物). Follow the tips below to improve your immune system.
*Getting enough vitamin D is a good idea. 51 Although it won’t protect you from getting the virus if you’re exposed, it could reduce the severity of the illness and help make recovery easier. You can get vitamin D naturally through sunlight. 52
*Sleeping is crucial for your body’s ability to recover and defend itself. One of the most evidence-supported ways to stay healthy also happens to be free — getting enough sleep. 53 While you’re asleep, your body uses that time to do critical recovery and repair of essential functions, including your immune system. Just one night of poor sleep can reduce your immune cells by as much as 70%, research shows.
    * 54 Exercise can keep your body functioning well, since research shows that it supports infection-fighting cells. If you’re working from home or staying out of the gym, there are still plenty of ways to make you sweat — simple body movements like burpees(波比跳)and push-ups can give you a quick full-body workout with no equipment.
*Trying to manage stress is one of the most important ways to stay healthy. 55 How you choose to relax will vary from person to person, whether that’s taking a walk outside, reading a favourite book, or taking time to practice yoga each day.
A.Exercise can better your mood as well as keep you healthy.
B.Stress can make a big difference to your immune system.
C.There appears to be a connection between nutrition and immunity.
D.What may appear to be a stressful situation for one person is not for another.
E.It means 7 to 9 hours each night for most people, according to Harvard Health.
F.Research has shown that the immune system needs vitamin D to fight off viruses.
G.It’s also found in some foods, including fatty fish, eggs, cheese, and mushrooms.

After millions of people around the country fill themselves with turkey and potatoes on Thanksgiving, they will wake up and think "I feel fat".
There are three psychological reasons that make someone more likely to"feel fat". The first is a high degree of internalization (内化). 56 . Media images prefer a thin ideal for women or a muscular ideal for men. When you internalize it, you’ve taken what society said people should look like. The second is self-objectification. People tie their overall self-worth to their physical appearance. 57 You' re extra sensitive to anything that could be taken the wrong way. So if something's going on in either their environment or their bodies that makes them feel a certain way, they're more likely to respond strongly to it.
58 You really are a little more bloated (浮肿)than usual. Maybe something strange is going on in your stomach that's making you a little gassy (胀气). Even drinking a ton of water can make you more bloated than usual. All are purely physical reactions that can cause that "I'm feeling fat" fear.
59 And that expectation is kind of baked into the DNA of Thanksgiving itself. It's such a part of our culture to be sort of undervaluing our own bodies. This sense of "Oh, I'm so fat" or "Oh, I just ate so much" is culturally permitted. We can feel fat, in other words, because we think we should. It's valuable to emphasize that it's okay to enjoy food across the holidays. It's Thanksgiving.   60 And this time, that boat is filled with gravy(肉汁).
A.Besides, everyone else is in the same boat.
B.The third reason is a high degree of sensitivity.
C.It's often the case that if we look good, we feel good.
D.The pickier you are about food, the healthier you will be
E.Sometimes what causes the fat feeling is just your body.
F.You expect to feel fat, so you convince yourself it's true.
G.People easily accept others' beliefs and attitudes as their own.

Every day is a gift, and if you look forward to enjoying each day, then you need to learn to make the most of your day. Here are some tips that can help you:
l Have a great morning routine(常规). A good start will make you feel good and is sure to make the rest of your day good as well. Rise early and get ready for your new day. Go for a morning walk or run. Listen to good music. 61 All this will help you start your day in a positive way.
l 62 Since we spend most of our day in the workplace, it is necessary to relax between different tasks. Set a timer on your phone or computer to remind you it’s time to get up, leave your desk, go out and get some fresh air.
l Try something new and learn from it. 63 To prevent this, step out and take some time to do things that you have never done before. This will not only make a day exciting, but it’ll also build your confidence.
l Ask someone to be your partner. It could be your brother or sister, or a good friend. 64   He or she will help you get over difficulties and achieve your goals.
l Plan your schedule for the next day the night before. 65 This will help you save a lot of time later in the day. Focus on one thing at a time and give it your best shot before moving on to the next one.
    A.Have a good breakfast.
    B.Make time for short breaks.
C.Try to do something fun every day.
D.Doing the same things every day is boring.
E.Review your day before you go to bed at night
F.This person encourages you, supports you and loves you.
G.Make a list of all the tasks you want to complete the next day.

Every student prefers to get high scores in their exams. But how can you effectively improve your memory and perform well in your exam? 66
    ·Try the Memory Palace.
For example, if you want to memorize some English words, you might store “furniture, television.” in your living room and “fridge, cooker...” in the kitchen. Then you can mentally travel through your house to recall each word. 67
    ·Create your own songs.
This method has been proven in several studies as a way of sending information to memory. You can use your favorite songs to recreate new songs with information you need to remember. The more interesting you make them, the better the result will be.
    ·Take some deep breaths.
68 If you are stressed you will have a more difficult time recalling information during an exam. You should put some energy into de-stressing but “turning of” stress is easier said than done. That’s why scientists recommend practice tests to you. Practice tests are not only a scientifically supported means of improving memory recall but they stand up to stressful situations.
    · 69
If you are feeling distracted, do some exercise. Studies show that those who have exercised for15minutes and then complete a memory task, complete tasks faster than those who haven’t exercised. Even a simple walk can make a difference.
There are so many suggested methods for you. 70 If you know that studying alone works best for you, go to self-study room often when you finish your classes at school.
    A.Reread your notes.
    B.Try a mini exercise.
    C.Try the following methods.
    D.We know exams are stressful.
E.Skip out all the practice tests on purpose.
F.Through this way, you can memorize these words easily.
G.You need to think about the way that suits you best.

How to fight your bad breath
More than 80 million people suffer from bad breath, according to the Academy of General Dentistry, a professional association of dentists from Canada and the United States. 71 , the most common reason is poor oral hygiene (卫生). Here are some ways to fight bad breath and bring others talking to you a more pleasant experience.
    72 .
Onions and garlic add flavor to many foods, but they also add odors (臭味) not easily brushed away. The substances that cause their bad smells make their way into your bloodstream and travel to your lungs, where you breathe them out. The best way to avoid the problem is to avoid such foods.
    Avoid dry mouth.
Saliva (唾液) is the key thing in your mouth that helps keep the odor under control because it helps wash away bacteria. 73 , try drinking water or chewing sugarless gum.
    Brush and floss (用牙线清洁).
Oral hygiene experts recommend you brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once to reduce plaque (牙斑). The sticky buildup on your teeth collects bacteria that cause bad breath, and trapped food adds to the problem. 74 , the experts warn. If you brush too hard you can wear down your teeth.
    Brush your tongue.
75 . To rid your tongue of odor-causing bacteria, remember to brush it when you clean your teeth. If your toothbrush is too big to reach the back of your tongue, buy a scraper, which is designed specifically to apply even pressure across the surface of the tongue area. This removes bacteria and dead cells that brushing alone can’t take care of.
    A.Avoid certain foods
    B.Don’t overdo things, though
C.If you aren’t producing much saliva
D.Bacteria don’t just live on your teeth
E.Brush your teeth after you eat these foods
F.Although bad breath can happen because of medical reasons
G.If your bad breath is thought to be caused by a potential health condition

    The Art of Man-on-the-Street Interviews
Have you ever observed the busy people of the street? Do they arouse your infinite thinking? The man-on-the-street interview may become a popular word because it is new. The man-on-the-street interview is an interview in which a reporter hits the streets with a cameraman to interview people on the spot. 76 .But with these tips, your first man-on-the-street interview experience can be easy.
When your boss or professor sends you out to do man-on-the-street interviews for a story, think about the topic and develop a list of about ten general questions relating to it. For example, if your topic is about environmental problems in America, you might ask, “Why do you think environmental protection is important in America?” 77 .
Hit the streets with confidence. As you approach people, be polite. Say, “Excuse me, I work for a certain well-known TV or radio station, and I was wondering if you could share your opinion about this topic.” 78
79 . If someone tells you she is not interested, move on to the next person. Keep in mind that not everyone wants to be interviewed, so don’t get hung up on it.
Limit your time. Each interview that you get on the street shouldn’t be longer than ten minutes. As soon as you get the answer you need, move on to the next person. Make sure that as you go from interview to interview, you are getting a variety of answers. A safe number of interviews to conduct is about six to ten. 80 .
For the media, the ability to increase ratings and influence may be the only meaning they want. In fact, different people have different views towards the interview. Someone says this should be the product of the fast-food information age.
    A.Don’t get discouraged.
B.This is a quick way to make people willing to talk.
C.For new reporters, this can seem like a challenging task.
D.That number of interviews should give you all the answers you need.
E.With a question like this, you will get more than a “Yes” or “No” reply.
F.If you don’t own a camera, you can buy one or borrow one from others.

    How to grow tomatoes?
Given the proper climatic conditions, you can grow tomatoes nearly anywhere. Before you grow tomatoes, check if your area has the right climatic conditions for this purpose. 86 And if it doesn’t, just give up this idea.
87 One is to grow them from seed and the other is to grow them from the plants. The seeds usually take six to eight weeks to grow. If you don’t know how to grow tomatoes from seed, you can consider buying the plants directly. Many of these plants can be found at most garden centers.
Tomatoes don’t grow well in cool conditions. 88 Tomatoes require areas with full sun and should have enough protection from strong winds as well, that’s more, they require a lot of water; therefore, you had better water your tomato plants regularly. 89
Check tomato plants daily for any ripe produce. Picking often helps more to grow. Once the end of growing season is coming, it’s helpful to remove any flowers as well. 90 If you still have a lot of green tomatoes during this time, go ahead and pick them. The clothes you wear. The food you eat. The color of your bedroom walls. Where you go and how you get there. The people you hang around with. What tine you go to bed. What do these things have in common? You're asking. 91
As a kid, you didn't have a say in everything; your parents made decisions about everything from the cereal you ate in the morning to the pajamas you wore at night. 92 Kids need this kind of protection on their own.
But finally, kids grow up and become teens. And part of being a teen is developing your own identity-one that is separated from your parents. But as you change and grow into this new person who makes your own decisions, your parents have a difficult time adjusting.
93 And issues like the type of friends you have or your attitudes to partying can cause bigger argument, because your parents still always want to protect you and keep you safe, no matter how old you are.
The good news is that in many families the arguing will lessen as their parents get more comfortable with the idea that their teens have a right to certain opinions. It can take several years for parents and teens to adjust to their new role, though. 94
Sometimes this can feel impossible-like they just don't see your point of view and never will. But talking and expressing your opinions can help you gain more respect from your parents. Keep in mind, too, that your parents were teens once. 95

Critical thinking means absorbing important information and using that to form a decision or opinion of your own. 96 But luckily, it’s something you can train yourself to do better.
One of the most important parts of thinking critically is learning what details matter. We’re exposed to so much information and so many different opinions every day that it’s really easy to get lost in the details. 97
Knowing which details are the most important is the first part of critical thinking, but it’s pretty useless if you don’t know what types of questions to ask next. 98 It’s important to always ask yourself why something is important and how it connects to things you already know. As you do that, you train your brain to think critically about more information you come across.
As with anything, if you want to get good at critical thinking, you need to practice it every day. 99 This could be casual observations or a notebook with opinions, but the point is to write every single day. Likewise, participating in a healthy debate with friends is great practice.
100 The more knowledge you gain, the better you’ll become at thinking about it. That doesn’t mean that you should be constantly thinking about thinking, but the end result is a brain that automatically forms better arguments, focused ideas, and creative solutions to problems.
    A.Critical thinking doesn't end.
B.It doesn’t always come naturally to us.
C.Critical thinking can’t be learned in school.
D.You should question all the provided details.
E.One easy way to do this is to keep a journal of some kind.
F.After all, thinking critically and asking questions go hand in hand.
G.As a result, we need to train ourselves to learn which details matter.

More mainstream sources of news such as newspapers, radio and IV aren’t gone yet, but the Internet is growing and entrenching itself as the preferred source. Here are some of the reasons why the Internet is now the best source of news people hive.
Online news is faster and more convenient while on the go. Soon after a major story occurs, it takes a few hours for news channels to report it live on cable. 106
Social media makes news more relevant. Social media platforms are not just limited to sharing pictures and posting updates about our daily routines. 107 For example, when there is breaking news on the Internet, people can make comments and post their thoughts regarding the event. As a result, they get into a dialogue where different opinions are presented and debated. 108 On the other hand, if you get news from cable TV,  you have very limited options to discuss.
You can get news directly from its source. Many newsmakers are already active on the Internet. Since all these newsmakers have an online presence. People can get news directly from the concerned source, public figures, and newsmakers. 109 . Their social media presence is verified (证实的) and it is easier to trust information coming from them.
110 For generation Z, cable TV is limited to sports and movie channels. They don't sit in front of the TV to watch a news bulletin. There primary source of information is the Internet. This is how they have grown up. It's unlikely they'll move away from digital anytime soon. And since this younger generation is the future, digital or Internet news is too.
    A.The future is digital.
B.Traditional journalism still holds great value.

F.However, people can get news faster through social media.
G.More importantly, it is a great way to understand the public’s perspective on certain issues.

While it is impossible to live completely free of stress, it is possible to prevent stress as well as reduce its effect when it can't be avoided. 111
    ●Take care of yourself
112 If you easily get angry and can't sleep well enough, or if you're not eating properly, it will be more likely that you will fall into stressful situations. If stress repeatedly keeps you from sleeping, you should consult a doctor.
    ● 113 .
When you are nervous, angry or upset, try releasing the pressure through exercise or physical activity. Running, walking, playing tennis, and working in your garden are just some of the activities you might try.
    ●Make time for yourself
Schedule time for both work and entertainment. Don't forget that play can be just as important to your overall well-being as work. 114 Go window-shopping or work on a hobby. Allow yourself at least a half hour each day to do something you enjoy.
    ● 115
Stress can result from disorganization and a feeling that "there's so much to do, and not enough time". Trying to take care of everything at once can be too much for you and as a result, you may not achieve anything. Instead, make a list of everything you have to do, then do one thing at a time, checking off each task as it is completed. Set out to do the most important task first.
A.Do whatever you like and want to do.
B.You should make every effort to eat well and get enough rest.

    D.Try physical activity.
E.You need a break from your daily routine to just relax and have fun.

Bad news sells. If it bleeds, it leads. No news is good news, and good news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the morning papers. 116 By tracking people’s e-mails and online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories.
“The ‘if it bleeds’ rule works for mass media,” says Jonah Berger, a scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. “ 117 But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more how they react. You don’t want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.”
Researchers analyzing word-of-mouth communication—e-mails, Web posts and reviews, face-to-face conversations—found that it tended to be more positive than negative. 118 Then was positive news shared more often because people experienced more good things than bad things? To test for that possibility, Dr. Berger looked at how people spread a particular set of news stories: thousands of articles on The New York Times’ website. He and a Penn colleague analyzed the “most e-mailed” list for six months. One of his first findings was that articles in the science section were much more likely to make the list than non-science articles. 119
Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that arouse (激发) feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad. 120 The more positive an article, the more likely it was to be shared, as Dr. Berger explains in his new book, “Why Things Catch On.”
A.They catch your attention and involve you in discussion.
B.They want your eyeballs but don’t care how you’re feeling.
C.Yet, that didn’t necessarily mean people preferred positive news.
D.The best articles are just like magnets, dragging readers to share them with each other.
E.They needed to be inspired one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad.
F.But now information is being spread in different ways, researchers are discovering new rules.
G.He found that science amazed readers and made them want to share this positive feelings with others.

Study shows that wearing masks outdoors can protect against more than Covid-19 for people who suffer from seasonal allergies. Protection varies mask to mask, depending on the fit and, for cloth masks, the weave of the fabric. And unless you wear a mask at all times, you may still be affected by indoor dust or other things carried through open windows. 121
    ● Protect your eyes. 122   It helps block allergens like tree pollen from making direct contact with eyes.
    ● Wash and change your mask frequently. “The last thing you want is allergen getting trapped in it,” Dr. Parikh, an allergist and immunologist at N.Y.U. Langone Health said. She recommends patients change their clothes when they get home and shower before sleep, to ensure that pollen doesn't stick to their skin, and wash reusable masks frequently. 123
    ● Find a mask that doesn’t make your skin painful. Choosing the right mask for an allergy-prone wearer can also be important. People with sensitive skin may react to dyes in some fabric masks and should use perfume-free detergents. 124 “My allergy sufferers have very sensitive skin because the same critters that make them sneeze or cough also can irritate their skin,” Dr. Parikh said.
    ● 125 “If people are continuing to have symptoms that interfere with normal activity — if they’re missing work, missing school, their sleep is disrupted at night — see a physician,” Dr. Lang, an allergist at Cleveland Clinic, said. “There are other ways we can help. You shouldn’t be suffering needlessly.”
A.Wear glasses or sunglasses when you’re outside.
B.Talk to a doctor if your allergy symptoms are severe.
C.There are more tips to reduce your symptoms in allergy seasons.
D.Wearing a mask also makes the air through our nose much warmer.
E.Or choose a medical grade mask which is less likely to irritate skin.
F.Give up our masks if we head into another pandemic season in the future.
G.The Center for Disease Control recommends washing a cloth mask after each use.

How to Find Your Inner Self
Figuring out who you are and your place in the world is a life-long task. 126 Once you realize that finding yourself is an ongoing process, not some sort of goal you must achieve, you’ll realize that you know much more about your inner self than you’ve ever imagined. Here are a few tips that can help you find your inner self.
Think about the moments you are most proud of in your life.
Finding meaning in your life is not easy, nor should it be, but you can get wonderful clues from your own past. 127 , as they often give you the most meaning and purpose while working, traveling, or learning.
    128 .
As you reflect on things that made you proud, think about what these experiences reveal about your values. Try asking yourself, what values are connected with the things that make me feel proud?
Determine the things you want in life.
Finding your inner self is as much about looking forward as looking back. Whether it is a job, a house in your favorite town, a loving partner, or lazy Sundays with a book, your desires reveal a lot about you. Simply write down the things you want in life.
Look beyond the labels(标签) given to you by others.
129 These labels are important to help define your roles and responsibilities in the world, but they are not you. They are just labels, and you are far more complex than a few words.
Remember that finding your inner self is a life-long process because you are always changing. Looking back on your life, note how often you were wrong about yourself. 130 Even if you’re sure about yourself now, this change will always happen as you move through life.
    A.Recognize your values.
    B.Make you proud.
C.But it doesn’t have to be frightening.
D.Think about what you want to achieve in your life,
E.Think about the things that brought your great pride in yourself,
F.How often did your likes, desires and goals change as you grew older?
G.At any one time, you may be considered a daughter, a girlfriend, an employee, and a tennis player.

Happiness is the most sought-after emotion. It is the reason for the existence of all beings. Happiness is not confined to the human world alone. 131
A young child is happy when it is well fed and becomes sad when it is hungry. Even adults cannot resist the pleasures of food and associate this with happiness. A bar of chocolate, an ice cream treat, or a fancy spread at a buffet all bring happiness. 132 Plants that are watered and given enough nutrients will grow happily.
133 Toys and gadgets, presents, and red packets bring unexpected joy. Even a pet cat or dog will show its happiness at being given a toy or plaything. A ball of wool or a plastic bone is all it takes.
Then, there is the house and the car, holidays abroad, a simple picnic, or even a movie that evokes happiness. Happiness is found in obtaining material things or indulging in recreational activities. 134 Why? Well, it all boils down to the individual. Money can buy happiness to a certain extent but when all is achieved, obtained, and bought, there comes a time for the true sense of happiness.
Many have sought it in ashrams and from wise men, but all it takes is an act of kindness and sharing. True happiness is eventually not in the receiving, possessing, and getting but in the giving. Giving time, things, labor to those around us, loved ones or strangers is the true happiness that lives on in our lives. 135 It doesn't have to be grand or expensive but has to be sincere and thoughtful. As Mark Twain once said, “The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” So, go out there and cheer someone up!
    A.Clothing and accessories bring happiness.
B.Making others happy is the core of being happy.
C.Animals and even plants seem to display happiness.
D.People are happiest when they are having a meal and some drink.
E.Everything we do is aimed at letting other people live more happily.
F.Different individuals have different definitions of happiness, though.
G.However, many are still not happy with all these trappings of luxury.

Sometimes we get so used to seeing our friends every day that it can come as a surprise to us when they aren't going to the same school as us when we go to college. But if you work hard enough to maintain your high school friendships, then they should be able to thrive (蓬勃发展) without a problem.
136 If you're only doing it for the purpose of having more friends, then it's not going to work. However, if you truly care about each individual friend, then it's much easier for you to want to keep them as a good friend.
Be sure not to ignore your old friends because of new friends. If you tell your old high school friends you can't hang out with them because you're hanging out with your new college friends, then they could get very upset. 137
Make sure that you have your friends' contact details, such as home address, mobile phone number, social media accounts and email addresses. 138 The more regularly you contact your friends, the closer you will be with them
Make sure to see your old friends in person. Although contacting friends online and by phone is a great way to catch up, if you really want a close relationship with them, you'll have to see them in person every now and then too. 139
Keeping on top of your work in college is very time-consuming, especially in your final year. This makes it hard to spend quality time with new friends, let alone old friends. 140 Your work is very important, but too much work and no play can make you unhealthy and overly-stressed. Also, your friends might get the wrong idea and think that you don't care about them.
A.Don't forget your old friends' birthday.
B.Make sure you're updated on important new details about your friends.
C.Remember why you want to stay friends with your high school friends.
D.To avoid this, introduce your new friends to your old ones so that you can all hang out together.
E.This is why it's necessary to manage your time efficiently, so that there is time for work and play.
F.Whether it's going on a jog or dining together, you have to make the time to keep your old friends.
G.However, it's meaningless to have a list of all your friends' contact details if you never use them.

We all know that food safety is very important, but do you know enough about food safety?
The best way to know if the milk is still good is to smell it . Experts say that if you keep your fridge closer to 34℉, instead of the standard 40℉, you can get an extra week out of your milk. Of course, the longer its container was kept sealed, the better. 141 .
A funky taste in water doesn’t mean you can’t drink it. Ever left a glass of water sitting on the bedside overnight and then it had that funky taste in the morning? 142 . After all, there are no ingredients in the water that would make it go bad.
143 . A study found that the fridge is one of the areas full of bacteria in the kitchen. Therefore, it’s essential to regularly clean out produce bins to prevent the buildup of bacteria.
Chopping boards are up to 200 times dirtier than a toilet seat. And washing it after every use does not protect you from all the bacteria. 144 . In addition to this, you should change your chopping boards regularly as bacteria can hide on them.
It’s not recommended to wash meat quickly. Washing meat before cooking can literally remove some of the bacteria from the surface. 145 . Besides, while washing meat , water can splash onto worktops, knives, etc., and thus make bacteria attached to them.
A.Well, turns out it’s perfectly fine to drink.
B.Produce bins in fridges are full of bacteria.
C.Bacteria are very small organisms which can cause disease.
D.However, it doesn't do anything to those that are tightly attached.
E.All in all, it’s always best to trust your good old nose and just smell the stuff.
F.It is recommended to have several chopping boards for different types of food.
G.And the rest of the bacteria on the surface can be immediately killed during cooking.

We all hope to achieve success in many areas of our lives. 146 . The following steps will help you clearly define what it is that you hope to achieve in life so that you can make your goals and dreams become a reality.
Stay focused on your goals once you’ve set them. Set clear long-term and short-term goals. Make sure that you're motivated by the goals you've set for yourself so that you're willing to take the necessary steps to successfully reach those goals. 147 , and you can work towards them every day.
Overcome obstacles (障碍). 148 . If you truly desire to achieve success in life, you must be willing to overcome obstacles on the way to reaching your goals and dreams.
Approach your goals and dreams with a positive attitude. Having a negative attitude and thinking that you can't achieve your goals and be successful in life will only slow you down. 149 , and you'll be much closer to achieving success.
150 . Eat healthily, exercise regularly, get adequate sleep and allow your mind to rest from time to time so that you'll be in top physical and mental shape when pursuing success.
    A.Keep your goals in sight
B.Take care of your body and mind
C.Think of more efficient ways to reach your goals
D.Stay positive even if the road to success gets tough
E.No one ever said that reaching your goals and obtaining success were easy.
F.But the road to success seems to be full of difficulties that we haven't planned for
G.Knowing how to get on well with others will greatly serve you on your path to success

71.上文“More than 80 million people suffer from bad breath, according to the Academy of General Dentistry, a professional association of dentists from Canada and the United States.(根据加拿大和美国牙医专业协会——普通牙科学会(Academy of General Dentistry)的数据,有超过8000万人患有口臭。)” 下文逗号后面“the most common reason is poor...(口臭的普遍原因是······)”说明了口臭的普遍原因。F项“Although bad breath can happen because of medical reasons(虽然口腔异味可能是由于医学原因造成的)”说明了不常见的原因,形成了逻辑转折,符合语境。故选F项。
72.上文“Here are some ways to fight bad breath and bring others talking to you a more pleasant experience.(这里有一些对付口臭的方法,可以给别人带来更愉快的谈话体验。)” 根据本段第一句“Onions and garlic add flavor to many foods, but they also add odors not easily brushed away.(洋葱和大蒜让许多食物更有味,但是他们也添加了不容易刷掉的气味。)” 故选A项。
73.上文“Avoid dry mouth. Saliva is the key thing in your mouth that helps keep the odor under control because it helps wash away bacteria.

76.根据前文“The man-on-the-street interview is an interview in which a reporter hits the streets with a cameraman to interview people on the spot.”(街头采访指记者和摄像师在街上对人们进行现场采访的采访方式。)可知,街头采访是一种新兴的采访方式;根据后文“But with these tips, your first man-on-the-street interview experience can be easy.
C项“For new reporters, this can seem like a challenging task.”(对于新记者来说,这似乎是一项具有挑战性的任务。)
For example, if your topic is about environmental problems in America, you might ask, “Why do you think environmental protection is important in America?”( 例如,如果你的话题是关于美国的环境问题,你可能会问,“为什么你认为环境保护在美国很重要?”) With a question like this, you will get more than a “Yes” or “No” reply.(对于这样的问题,你得到的不仅仅是一个“是”或“不是”的回答。)
As you approach people, be polite. Say, “Excuse me, I work for a certain well-known TV or radio station, and I was wondering if you could share your opinion about this topic.”( 当你接近别人时,要有礼貌。 B项“This is a quick way to make people willing to talk.”(这是一种让人们愿意交谈的快速方法。)
同时,根据“Keep in mind that not everyone wants to be interviewed, so don’t get hung up on it.”(记住,不是每个人都想接受面试,所以不要太在意。) A项“Don’t get discouraged.”(不要气馁)符合文意。故选A。
80.根据段首句“Limit your time.”(限制采访时间)以及前文“A safe number of interviews to conduct is about six to ten.”(进行六到十次面试比较安全。) D项“That number of interviews should give you all the answers you need.”(这种次数的采访将会给你需要的答案。)

86.根据上文“Given the proper climatic conditions, you can grow tomatoes nearly anywhere. Before you grow tomatoes, check if your area has the right climatic conditions for this purpose.(在适当的气候条件下,你几乎可以在任何地方种植西红柿。在你种植西红柿之前,检查你所在地区的气候条件是否适合种植西红柿)”以及后文“And if it doesn’t, just give up this idea.(如果不适合,就放弃这个想法)”可知,后文假设了不适合种植西红柿的情况,可知本句是在假设气候条件适合的情况,故C选项“如果适合,找一些土地种植”符合语境,故选C。
87.根据后文“One is to grow them from seed and the other is to grow them from the plants.(一种是从种子中培养出来的,另一种是从植物中培养出来的)”可知,种植西红柿有两种方法,一种是从种子中培养出来的,另一种是从植物中培养出来。
89.根据上文“Tomatoes require areas with full sun and should have enough protection from strong winds as well, that’s more, they require a lot of water; therefore, you had better water your tomato plants regularly.(西红柿需要阳光充足的地方,也应该有足够的保护,以防强风,更重要的是,它们需要大量的水;因此,你最好定期给你的番茄植株浇水)”可知,上文提到了种植西红柿需要阳光充足、足够的保护和大量的水,这些都是种植西红柿需要注意的因素。
90.根据上文“Check tomato plants daily for any ripe produce. Picking often helps more to grow. Once the end of growing season is coming, it’s helpful to remove any flowers as well.(每天检查番茄植株是否有成熟的果实。

91.根据上文“The clothes you wear. The food you eat. The color of your bedroom walls. Where you go and how you get there. The people you hang around with. What tine you go to bed. What do these things have in common? You're asking.(你穿的衣服。你吃的食物。卧室墙壁的颜色。你要去哪里,怎么去。和你在一起的人。你几点钟上床睡觉?你要问这些事情有什么共同之处?)”可知,上文列举了一系列父母控制孩子生活的事例,本句为本段最后一句,应总结回答上文的问题,故G选项“他们只是你父母为你控制的数百件事情中的几个例子”符合语境,故选G。
92.根据上文“As a kid, you didn't have a say in everything; your parents made decisions about everything from the cereal you ate in the morning to the pajamas you wore at night.(作为一个孩子,你对任何事情都没有发言权;你的父母为你做所有的决定,从你早上吃的麦片到你晚上穿的睡衣)”以及后文“Kids need this kind of protection on their own. (孩子们自己也需要这种保护)”可知,后文提到孩子自己也需要父母的保护,可见父母为孩子做所有的决定其实也是一件事。故A选项“这也是一件好事”符合语境,故选A。
93.根据后文“And issues like the type of friends you have or your attitudes to partying can cause bigger argument, because your parents still always want to protect you and keep you safe, no matter how old you are.(你的朋友类型或你对聚会的态度等问题会引起更大的争论,因为你的父母总是想保护你,保护你的安全,不管你多大)”可知,后文提到父母和孩子会发生争论的情况,E选项中fighting对应后文中argument。
94.根据上文“The good news is that in many families the arguing will lessen as their parents get more comfortable with the idea that their teens have a right to certain opinions. It can take several years for parents and teens to adjust to their new role, though.(好消息是,在许多家庭中,争吵会减少,因为他们的父母对他们的孩子有权利发表某些意见的想法变得更自在了。
95.根据上文“Sometimes this can feel impossible-like they just don't see your point of view and never will. But talking and expressing your opinions can help you gain more respect from your parents. Keep in mind, too, that your parents were teens once.(有时这感觉是不可能的——就好像他们不明白你的观点,永远也不会明白。但是谈论和表达你的观点可以帮助你从你的父母那里获得更多的尊重。记住,你的父母也曾是青少年)”可知,上文提到父母也曾经是青少年,故本句与上文构成因果关系,指出父母也可以与孩子的经历相关,C选项中they对应上文parents。故C选项“所以,在大多数情况下,他们可以与你正在经历的有关”符合语境,故选C。

We’re exposed to so much information and so many different opinions every day that it’s really easy to get lost in the details.”(批判性思维最重要的部分之一是了解细节的重要性。 因此“As a result, we need to train ourselves to learn which details matter.”(因此,我们需要训练自己去了解哪些细节是重要的。)
98.根据上句“Knowing which details are the most important is the first part of critical thinking, but it’s pretty useless if you don’t know what types of questions to ask next.”(知道哪些细节很重要是批判性思维的第一部分,但是如果你不知道下一步要问什么类型的问题,那就没用了。) 因此“After all, thinking critically and asking questions go hand in hand.”(毕竟,批判性思考和提问是相辅相成的。)
99.根据上句“As with anything, if you want to get good at critical thinking, you need to practice it every day.”(和任何事情一样,如果你想擅长批判性思维,你需要每天练习。)和下一句“This  could  be  casual  observations  or  a  notebook  with  opinions,  but  the  point  is  to  write  every  single  day.”(这可以是一个随意的观察,也可以是一个有意见的笔记本,但关键是每天都要写。) 因此“One easy way to do this is to keep a journal of some kind.”(一个简单的方法就是记日记。)
100.根据下文“The more knowledge you gain, the better you’ll become at thinking about it.”(你获得的知识越多,你就越善于思考。) 故选A项。

120.根据上文“Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that arouse (激发) feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad.(读者也会倾向于分享让人兴奋或者有趣的文章,或者能激发愤怒或焦虑的文章,但不是让他们感到悲伤的文章)”可知,空格处应进一步描述读者的想法;选项E. They needed to be inspired one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad.(他们需要用一种或者其他的方式被激励,而且与坏消息相比他们更喜欢好的消息)其中“They”指代上文中的“Readers”并承接上文。

121.根据上文“Study shows that wearing masks outdoors can protect against more than Covid-19 for people who suffer from seasonal allergies. Protection varies mask to mask, depending on the fit and, for cloth masks, the weave of the fabric. And unless you wear a mask at all times, you may still be affected by indoor dust or other things carried through open windows.(研究表明,对于季节性过敏的人来说,在户外戴口罩不仅能预防Covid-19。防护措施因人而异,这取决于口罩的合身程度,对于布制口罩来说,还取决于织物的编织。除非你一直戴着口罩,否则你仍然可能受到室内灰尘或其他从开着的窗户带入的东西的影响)”结合后文主要提出了一些减少过敏的方法,C选项“有更多的建议来减少你在过敏季节的症状”符合语境,故选C。
122.根据上文“● Protect your eyes.(保护你的眼睛)”以及后文“It helps block allergens like tree pollen from making direct contact with eyes.(它有助于阻止树花粉等过敏原直接接触眼睛)”可知,本句旨在说明保护眼睛的具体方法,A选项“当你在室外时,戴上眼镜或太阳镜”符合语境,故选A。
123.根据上文“● Wash and change your mask frequently. “The last thing you want is allergen getting trapped in it,” Dr. Parikh, an allergist and immunologist at N.Y.U. Langone Health said. She recommends patients change their clothes when they get home and shower before sleep, to ensure that pollen doesn't stick to their skin, and wash reusable masks frequently.( ●经常清洗和更换口罩。纽约大学朗格尼健康中心的过敏症专科医生和免疫学家帕里克博士说:“你最不希望的就是过敏原被困在里面。”她建议患者回家后换衣服,睡觉前洗澡,以确保花粉不会粘在他们的皮肤上,并经常清洗可重复使用的口罩)”可知,本段的建议是经常清洗和更换口罩,G选项中washing a cloth mask对应上文中Wash and change your mask。
124.根据上文“Find a mask that doesn’t make your skin painful. Choosing the right mask for an allergy-prone wearer can also be important. People with sensitive skin may react to dyes in some fabric masks and should use perfume-free detergents.(找到不会让你的皮肤疼痛的口罩。为易过敏的佩戴者选择合适的口罩也很重要。敏感皮肤的人可能会对某些织物口罩中的染料有反应,应该使用无香水的洗涤剂)”以及后文““My allergy sufferers have very sensitive skin because the same critters that make them sneeze or cough also can irritate their skin,” Dr. Parikh said.(“我的过敏患者皮肤非常敏感,因为让他们打喷嚏或咳嗽的同种生物也会刺激他们的皮肤,”Parikh医生说)”可知,本段主要是关于选择口罩的建议,后文提到了皮肤敏感,因此应该选择不刺激皮肤的口罩。
125.根据后文“ “If people are continuing to have symptoms that interfere with normal activity — if they’re missing work, missing school, their sleep is disrupted at night — see a physician,” Dr. Lang, an allergist at Cleveland Clinic, said. “There are other ways we can help. You shouldn’t be suffering needlessly.”(“如果人们继续有干扰正常活动的症状——如果他们错过工作、上学、晚上睡眠被打乱——去看医生,”克利夫兰诊所的过敏症专科医生朗医生说。 “我们还可以通过其他方式提供帮助。 你不应该无谓地受苦。”)”可知,本段的建议是过敏了就去看医生,B选项中Talk to a doctor对应后文中see a physician。

126.根据前一句“Figuring out who you are and your place in the world is a life-long task.(弄清楚你是谁以及你在世界上的位置是一个终身的任务。)”以及后面的句子“Once you realize that finding yourself is an ongoing process, not some sort of goal you must achieve, you’ll realize that you know much more about your inner self than you’ve ever imagined.(一旦你意识到发现自己是一个不断进行的过程,而不是你必须实现的某种目标,你就会意识到,你对内在自我的了解比你想象的要多得多。)” But it doesn’t have to be frightening.(但这并不一定是可怕的。)
127.第二段的小标题是“Think about the moments you are most proud of in your life.(想想你生命中最让你骄傲的时刻。)” Think about the things that brought your great pride in yourself(想想是什么让你为自己感到骄傲)中的brought your great pride与小标题中的you are most proud of相一致,且Think about the things与小标题的Think about the moments相一致,因此E选项呼应本段主题,符合语境,故选E。
128.空格处是本段的小标题,由“As you reflect on things that made you proud, think about what these experiences reveal about your values. Try asking yourself, what values are connected with the things that make me feel proud?(当你回想那些让你骄傲的事情时,想想这些经历揭示了你的价值观。试着问问自己,什么价值观与让我感到自豪的事情有关?)”可知,本段主要讲的是要认识自己的价值观,A选项Recognize your values.(认识到你的价值观。)概括了本段主题,符合语境,故选A。
129.后面的句子“These labels are important to help define your roles and responsibilities in the world, but they are not you. They are just labels, and you are far more complex than a few words.(这些标签对定义你在世界上的角色和责任很重要,但它们不是你。它们只是标签,你比几个单词要复杂得多。)”表明人在生活中有很多身份和责任,这些身份的定义很重要,“These labels”和G选项At any one time, you may be considered a daughter, a girlfriend, an employee, and a tennis player.(在任何时候,你都可能被认为是一个女儿,一个女朋友,一个雇员,一个网球运动员。)中的a daughter, a girlfriend, an employee, and a tennis player相呼应,此答案举例说明人可能有很多标签,因此G选项符合语境,在空格处起到启下的作用,故选G。
130.空格前说“Looking back on your life, note how often you were wrong about yourself.(回顾你的一生,注意你有多少次对自己的看法是错误的。)”,F选项How often did your likes, desires and goals change as you grew older?(随着年龄的增长,你的喜好、愿望和目标会发生多少变化?)中的How often和上文的how often相一致,且change和前面的changing及后面的this change相呼应,因此F选项承上启下,符合语境,故选F。

131.根据上文“Happiness is the most sought-after emotion. It is the reason for the existence of all beings. Happiness is not confined to the human world alone.(幸福是最渴望的情感。它是一切存在的理由。幸福并不仅仅局限于人类世界)”可知,上文提到“快乐不是独属于人类的”,推测本句是要说人类之外的其他生物也拥有快乐。故C选项“动物甚至植物似乎都表现出快乐”符合语境,故选C。
132.根据上文“A young child is happy when it is well fed and becomes sad when it is hungry. Even adults cannot resist the pleasures of food and associate this with happiness. A bar of chocolate, an ice cream treat, or a fancy spread at a buffet all bring happiness.(一个小孩吃得好时是快乐的,饿了就会悲伤。
133.根据后文“Toys and gadgets, presents, and red packets bring unexpected joy. Even a pet cat or dog will show its happiness at being given a toy or plaything. A ball of wool or a plastic bone is all it takes.(玩具、小玩意、礼物和红包会带来意想不到的快乐。即使是宠物猫或狗在得到玩具或玩物时也会表现出它的快乐。一团羊毛或一根塑料骨头就够了)”可知,后文指出,玩具、小物件、礼物等都会给人们带来意想不到的快乐,宠物猫狗也会因玩偶而感到快乐,即生活中一些物品可以带来快乐。故A选项“衣服和饰品能带来快乐”符合语境,故选A。
134.根据上文“Then, there is the house and the car, holidays abroad, a simple picnic, or even a movie that evokes happiness. Happiness is found in obtaining material things or indulging in recreational activities.(然后,有房子和汽车,国外度假,一次简单的野餐,甚至是一部唤起幸福的电影。幸福是在获得物质的东西或沉迷于娱乐活动中找到的)”以及后文“Why? Well, it all boils down to the individual. Money can buy happiness to a certain extent but when all is achieved, obtained, and bought, there comes a time for the true sense of happiness.(为什么?好吧,这一切都归结于个人。金钱可以在一定程度上买到幸福,但是只有当一切都获得了,买到了,实现了,才到真正幸福的时候)”可知,本段提到,房子、车会给人快乐,但同样,一次野炊、一场电影也能让人快乐。物质产品和精神生活都会给人带来快乐。通过下文的设问,推知选项陈述了物质不能让一些人满足的现象。故G选项“然而,许多人仍然不满意所有这些奢侈的装饰”符合语境,故选G。
135.根据上文“Many have sought it in ashrams and from wise men, but all it takes is an act of kindness and sharing. True happiness is eventually not in the receiving, possessing, and getting but in the giving. Giving time, things, labor to those around us, loved ones or strangers is the true happiness that lives on in our lives.(许多人在静修处和智者那里寻求它,但它所需要的只是一个善良和分享的行为。真正的幸福最终不在于接受、拥有和得到,而在于给予。为我们身边的人,爱人或陌生人付出时间,付出事情,付出劳动,这才是生活中真正的幸福)”以及后文“It doesn't have to be grand or expensive but has to be sincere and thoughtful. As Mark Twain once said, “The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” So, go out there and cheer someone up!( 它不需要华丽或昂贵,但必须是真诚和周到的。正如马克·吐温曾经说过:“让自己高兴起来的最好办法就是努力让别人高兴起来。”所以,出去让别人高兴起来吧!)”可知,作者告诉我们,真正的快乐来自给予,根据下文“the best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.”

根据后文“If you're only doing it for the purpose of having more friends, then it's not going to work. (如果你这样做只是为了结交更多的朋友,那么这是行不通的)”可知,C选项“Remember why you want to stay friends with your high school friends.(记住为什么你想和你的高中朋友保持朋友关系)”提出的问题与下一句逻辑相符,符合语境。故选C项。
2.根据空前一句“If you tell your old high school friends you can't hang out with them because you're hanging out with your new college friends, then they could get very upset. (如果你告诉你的高中朋友,你不能和他们出去玩,因为你要和你的新大学朋友出去玩,那么他们会很生气) ”可知,D选项“To avoid this, introduce your new friends to your old ones so that you can all hang out together.(为了避免这种情况,把你的新朋友介绍给你的旧朋友,这样你们就可以一起出去玩了)”为前面出现的问题解决的方法,且hang out前后对应。故选D项。
3.根据空前一句“Make sure that you have your friends' contact details, such as home address, mobile phone number, social media accounts and email addresses.(确保你有你朋友的联系方式,如家庭住址,手机号码,社交媒体账号和电子邮件地址)”可知,此处表示要保留老朋友的联系方式;G选项 “However, it's meaningless to have a list of all your friends' contact details if you never use them.(然而,如果你从未使用过所有朋友的联系方式,那么列出他们的联系方式也就毫无意义了)”从反面说明,列清单是为了保持联系,与下一句表示应规律地与朋友保持联系语境相符。故选G项。
4.本段主旨句“Make sure to see your old friends in person.(一定要亲自去看看你的老朋友)”建议我们要和老朋友见面。根据空前一句“Although contacting friends online and by phone is a great way to catch up, if you really want a close relationship with them, you'll have to see them in person every now and then too. (虽然通过网络和电话与朋友联系是一种很好的联系方式,但如果你真的想和他们保持密切的关系,你也必须时不时地去见他们)”可知,F选项“Whether it's going on a jog or dining together, you have to make the time to keep your old friends.(无论是一起慢跑还是一起吃饭,你都得挤出时间和老朋友保持联系)”为亲自与朋友见面的具体例子,符合语境。故选F项。
5.根据“Keeping on top of your work in college is very time-consuming, especially in your final year. (在大学里,保持学业领先是非常耗费时间的,尤其是在你的最后一年)”及下一句内容可知,此处描写没有时间与朋友共度时光;E选项“This is why it's necessary to manage your time efficiently, so that there is time for work and play.(这就是为什么有效管理你的时间是必要的,这样才能有时间工作和娱乐)”为对前面提出的现象给出的解决方式,符合语境。故选E项。
    141.E 142.A 143.B 144.F 145.D

141.本段第一句“The best way to know if the milk is still good is to smell it.(要知道牛奶是否还好,最好的方法就是闻一闻。)” All in all, it’s always best to trust your good old nose and just smell the stuff.(总而言之,最好还是相信你的好鼻子,闻一下。)
142.空格前说“Ever left a glass of water sitting on the bedside overnight and then it had that funky taste in the morning?(你有没有把一杯水放在床边一晚上,第二天早上却有一股臭味?)”,空格后说“After all, there are no ingredients in the water that would make it go bad.(毕竟,水中没有会使它变质的成分。)” Well, turns out it’s perfectly fine to drink.(事实证明,这完全可以喝。)
143.空格后说“A study found that the fridge is one of the areas full of bacteria in the kitchen.(一项研究发现,冰箱是厨房里细菌最多的地方之一。)” Produce bins in fridges are full of bacteria.(冰箱里的容器里充满了细菌。)
144.空格前说“Chopping boards are up to 200 times dirtier than a toilet seat. And washing it after every use does not protect you from all the bacteria.(砧板比马桶座圈还要脏200倍。而且每次使用后都清洗并不能保护你免受所有细菌的侵害。)”,F选项It is recommended to have several chopping boards for different types of food.(建议用几个砧板来切不同类型的食物。)
145.空格前说“It’s not recommended to wash meat quickly. Washing meat before cooking can literally remove some of the bacteria from the surface.(不建议把肉洗得很快。烹饪前清洗肉确实可以去除肉表面的一些细菌。)”,说明清洗肉达不到彻底清洗细菌的作用,D选项However, it doesn't do anything to those that are tightly attached.(然而,它对那些紧密附在肉上的细菌没有任何作用。)
    146.F 147.A 148.E 149.D 150.B

146.根据上文“We all hope to achieve success in many areas of our lives.(我们都希望在生活的许多领域取得成功)”以及后文“The following steps will help you clearly define what it is that you hope to achieve in life so that you can make your goals and dreams become a reality.(下面的步骤将帮助你明确你希望在生活中实现什么,这样你就可以使你的目标和梦想成为现实)”可知,上文提到了希望取得成功,后文则提到了让目标梦想成为现实的方法,可推知本句承上启下,指出成功充满了困难,并引出下文介绍的方法,故F选项“但是成功之路似乎充满了我们没有计划的困难”符合语境,故选F。
147.根据上文“Stay focused on your goals once you've set them. Set clear long-term and short-term goals. Make sure that you're motivated by the goals you've set for yourself so that you're willing to take the necessary steps to successfully reach those goals.(一旦你设定了目标,就继续关注它。设定明确的长期和短期目标。确保你被你为自己设定的目标所激励,这样你就愿意采取必要的步骤来成功实现这些目标)”以及后文“and you can work towards them every day.(你每天都可以向它们努力)”可知,上文提到了设定目标,后文则说每天向它们努力,可推测本句是在说明如何设置这些目标,A选项中goals对应后文中them。故A选项“保持你的目标在眼前”符合语境,故选A。
148.空白句紧跟在本段主题句“克服障碍”之后。下文指出“If you truly desire to achieve success in life, you must be willing to overcome obstacles on the way to reaching your goals and dreams.(如果你真的渴望实现成功的人生,你必须甘愿克服通往目标和梦想路上的障碍)”,E选项“没人曾说过达成目标、实现成功很容易”指的就是成功路上有很多障碍,与下文以及本段的主题关联紧密,符合语境。故选E。
149.根据上文“Approach your goals and dreams with a positive attitude. Having a negative attitude and thinking that you can't achieve your goals and be successful in life will only slow you down.(用积极的态度来接近你的目标和梦想。有一个消极的态度,认为你不能实现你的目标和成功的生活只会让你慢下来)”以及后文“and you'll be much closer to achieving success. (这样你就离成功更近了)”可知,上文提到了消极的态度不利于实现目标和成功,后文则说离成功更近了,可推测本句是在说明要采取积极的态度才能离成功更近。故D选项“即使通往成功的道路非常艰难,也要保持积极的态度”符合语境,故选D。
150.根据后文“Eat healthily, exercise regularly, get adequate sleep and allow your mind to rest from time to time so that you'll be in top physical and mental shape when pursuing success.(健康饮食、定期锻炼、充足睡眠、时不时休息一下,这样你在追求成功的时候就能保持最佳的身体和精神状态)”可知,本段主要是关于保持身体和精神健康的建议,B选项中body and mind对应后文中physical and mental。
