Yang Hongwei, 56, was born into a kite-making family in Weifang. When she was young, she often saw kites with bright colors and different shapes in her grandfather’s workshop.
“Every time I see these beautiful kites, my bad feelings go away,” said Yang.
Yang learned to make kites from her grandfather at the age of 16. After practicing the skill for 10 years, she started her own shop in 1992.
“Many places around the world have a tradition of flying kites,” Yang said. “But I think the cultural idea behind our kites is special.”
On Yang’s kites, people can see not only common pictures like butterflies and birds, but also some prints telling Chinese myths, legends and history. For example, she once made a kite with a phoenix(凤凰). On each side of the phoenix were 50 images(形象)of famous women from Chinese history. Each woman was different in look, clothes and makeup.
“It took me a lot of time,” Yang said, “but when I explain the stories of the kites to foreigners, I feel a great sense of achievement.”

When I was in Grade 8, I had a heated argument(争吵)with my classmate, Tony. I have forgotten what the argument was about, but I have never forgotten the lesson I learned that day.
I believed that I was right and he was wrong, and Tony believed that I was wrong and he was right. Our teacher, a kind and smart lady, decided to teach us a lesson. She brought us to the front of the class and placed him on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large and round object. I could clearly see that it was black. The teacher asked us what color the object was. “White,” Tony answered. I couldn’t believe he said the object was white! “Clearly, it was black!” Another argument started between Tony and me, this time about the color of the object.
The teacher told me to go and stand where Tony was standing and told him to go and stand where I was standing. We changed places, and now she asked me what color the object was. I had to answer, “White.” It was an object with two differently colored sides — from his side it was white, while from my side it was black. “Boys, now, what do you say?” The teacher smiled at us. Tony has been my best friend ever since.
My teacher taught me a very important lesson that day: When you disagree with others, you’d better be in their shoes. That will help you look at the situation through their eyes, and truly understand their ideas and ways of thinking.
30. What did the teacher do at first?
A. She shouted at the boys. B. She called the boys’ parents.
C. She walked out of the classroom. D. She brought the boys to her desk.
31. How did the writer feel when Tony answered “white” in paragraph 2?
A. Surprised. B. Pleased. C. Afraid. D. Thankful.
32. Why did the writer give two different answers?
A. Because he was unfriendly to Tony. B. Because he changed his place with Tony.
C. Because he wanted to have another argument. D. Because he turned around the object.
33. What would the writer probably do after this lesson?
A. He would forget the arguments. B. He would sit in the front of the class.
C. He might shake hands with Tony. D. He might listen to the teacher carelessly.

Imagine you are reading this text on the computer, what else are you doing? Maybe you’re eating a sandwich or drinking fruit juice. Should you eat while reading?
There aren’t many reliable numbers, but we do know the number of people who eat while sitting in front of some type of screen is growing. A recent study found that 33 percent of families always have the TV on during meal time and another 27 percent people have it on at least half the time. Another 10 percent may be texting, emailing or talking on a cellphone while eating.
Any type of these behaviors is bad, considering the following evidence:
A Canadian study found that children who watch more than three hours of television a day are 50 percent more likely to be fat than children who watch fewer than two hours. The researchers concluded that more than 60 percent of overweight(超重的)incidents can be connected with watching too much TV.
A three-week study found that adults who watch less TV burned 119 more calories(热量)per day.
One Chicago researcher found that people eat more potato chips while watching TV than when they have the TV turned off.
There has been very little investigation(调查研究)into eating with your eyes staring at a screen or reading a book, but it is likely that this mindless eating is connected with weight gain. Simply speaking, your brain has no idea what is going on with your mouth because it is occupied(占用)by other things. You don’t notice how full your stomach is, and you often don’t even notice the taste or the act of chewing and swallowing.
So if you are fighting to lose weight, turn off your TV, switch off your computer screen and put your phone on vibration(振动). Just pay attention to what you are eating.
37. The underlined word “reliable” in Paragraph 2 means _________ in Chinese.
A.可信的 B.合适的 C.可能的 D.满意的
38. When you eat while reading, __________.
A. you burn more calories B. you feel hungry all the time
C. you don’t notice how much you have eaten D. you chew and swallow food faster
39. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. This text can be found on a website.
B. Being focused while eating is a good way to lose weight.
C. Adults’ weight is not affected by their eating habits.
D. There have been many investigations into eating while reading.
40. What can be the best title of the text?
A. TV and Eating B. How Should You Lose Weight?
C. Eating on the Computer D. Should You Do Other Things While Eating?
第二节 阅读填空(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分)

New Year’s Eve party food should be simple. 42
Instead, serve a range of simple finger food and other items that can be made ahead. Set up a buffet-style(自助餐形式的)table so that guests can serve themselves throughout the evening. Some food suggestions include cheese, snacks, candies, chocolates, fruit, vegetables that can be eaten raw, mini hot dogs, dessert, and so on. If you want to serve more of a “meal”, keep it simple by adding some items like sandwiches.
If you have already decorated your house for Christmas, keep those decorations up for the New Year’s Eve party to create a festival atmosphere. 43 Buy some fun things like noise-makers or New Year’s party hats.
44 You can also download some great party music online and then create a play list that you can play for the entire party. While there aren’t many New Year-themed songs around, one classic that you should play during your party is Auld Lang Syne. 45

B. It is a good idea to have some background music for your party.
