Human speech cntains mre than 2,000 different sunds, frm the cmmn “m” and “a” t the rare clicks f sme suthern African languages. But why are certain sunds mre cmmn than thers? A grundbreaking, fiveyear study shws that dietrelated changes in human bite led t new speech sunds that are nw fund in half the wrld's languages.
