展开Hneybees understand that “nthing” can be “smething” that has numerical meaning, shwing that they have a primitive grasp f the cncept f zer, accrding t a newlypublished study in Science.
Previus experiments have shwn that hneybees have sme facility fr numbers, because they were able t cunt landmarks (地标) as they searched arund fr a sweet reward. But in these tests, the insects culdn't cunt very high—nly t abut fur. Still, that made researchers in Australia and France want t explre what else the bees culd d with numbers.
Scarlett Hward at RMIT University in Melburne attracted bees t a wall where they were presented with tw square cards. Each card had a different number f black symbls, such as dts r triangles. Hward trained ne grup f bees t understand that sugar water wuld always be lcated under the card with the least number f symbls. “They culd cme and see tw circles versus (与……相对) three circles, r fur triangles versus ne triangle,” she explains. The bees quickly learned t fly t the card with the fewest symbls.
But then they gt anther test. The researchers presented the bees with a card that had a single symbl and a blank card. The bees seemed t understand that “zer” was less than ne, because they flew tward the blank card mre ften than expected if they were chsing at randm. “When we shwed them zer versus six, they did that at a much higher level than zer versus ne,” Hward says. “S what that tells us is that they cnsider zer as an actual quantity alng the number line.”
Aurre AvarguèsWeber, a researcher frm the University f Tuluse, pints ut even very yung children have truble understanding that zer is a number. “It's easy fr them t cunt ne, tw, three, fur, but zer, it's nt smething t cunt,” she explains. What's mre, the brains f bees are incredibly tiny brains cmpared with the brains f humans, scientist Nieder ntes. Even s, the bees can understand the abstract cncept f an empty set and he says he fund that very surprising.

A.They were tld the lcatin f the reward.
B.They chse t d it thrughly by chance.
C.They preferred the card with nthing n it.
D.They thught f zer as an actual number.
4.Why are yung children mentined in the last paragraph?
A.T argue that bees have a surprising memry.
B.T shw that bees' gifts fr numbers are amazing.
C.T explain that bees learn as well as yung children.

In August, Jasn M. Allen's piece “Théatre D'péra Spatial”—which he created with AI image generatr Midjurney—wn first place in the emerging artist divisin's “digital arts phtgraphy” categry at the Clrad State Fair Fine Arts Cmpetitin. The definitin fr the categry states that digital art refers t wrks that use “digital technlgy as part f the creative prcess”.
Allen's awardwinning image has led t debates abut what, exactly, it means t be an artist and whether AI can truly make art. “It feels bad fr the exact same reasn we dn't let rbts participate in the Olympics,” ne netizen wrte. “This is the literal definitin f pressing a few buttns t make a digital art ‘piece’,” anther wrte.
Yet while Allen didn't use a paintbrush, there was plenty f wrk invlved. First, Allen played arund with phrasing that led Midjurney t generate images f wmen in elegant dresses and space helmets, in an attempt t mix Victrianstyle cstuming with space themes. Over time, with many slight changes t his written prmpt (提示符), he created 900 different versins f what led t his final image. Then he imprved its reslutin thrugh Gigapixel AI and finally had the images printed.
Allen is glad the debate ver whether AI can be used t make art is attracting s much attentin. “Rather than hating n the technlgy, we need t recgnize that it's a pwerful tl and use it fr gd s we can all mve frward,” Allen said.
Cal Duran, ne f the judges fr the cmpetitin, said that while Allen's piece included a mentin f AI, he didn't realize that when judging it. Still, he stuck by his decisin t award it first place. “I think the AI technlgy may give mre pprtunities t peple wh may nt find themselves artists in the cnventinal way,” he said.
5.Why has Allen's wrk led t debates?
A.It was a cpy f a phtgraph.
B.He challenged the lder artists.

A
根据第三段的“Hward trained ne grup f bees t understand that sugar water wuld always be learned t fly t the card with the fewest symbls”可知,Hward训练了一组蜜蜂,让它们明白糖水总是位于符号最少的卡片下面,蜜蜂很快就学会了飞向符号最少的卡片。
根据第四段的“The bees seemed t understand that “zer” was less than they were chsing at randm”可知,蜜蜂似乎明白“0”比“1”小,所以它们更频繁地飞到空白卡片上,故选D。

根据第二段中的“led t debates abut what, exactly, it means t be an artist and whether AI can truly make art”可以推断,Allen的作品引发大众讨论的原因是这幅画是在人工智能帮助下完成的,故C项正确。
根据第三段中的“there was plenty f wrk finally had the images printed”可以推断,Allen的创作过程耗时耗力,故B项正确。
根据最后一段中Cal Duran所说的话“I think the AI technlgy may give mre pprtunities t peple wh may nt find themselves artists in the cnventinal way”可知,Cal Duran认为人工智能可以打破常规,给艺术家带去不同的视角和创作机会,故D项正确。
