Who doesn't want to live life in style? Life is like a road on which you never get a chance to return, and is not a very long road either. So we should try to live life to the fullest and enjoy every bit of it.
Every individual has unique liking and preferences, and all of us try to live the lives that suit us best. The world is like a painting cloth on which different people with different races, different languages, and different cultural backgrounds interact. But among these, the arts provide an easy and natural way for people to connect.
People with a knack for the arts usually discover it in childhood. But art isn’t only for the talented;it can help everyone grow. Those with a strong artistic background are often more energetic, and more successful in all fields of life. Art widens the range of a person's life.
Painting is one of the most popular art forms. Those who are interested in taking it up as a career need to go through extensive training to get familiar with the various styles. Professional painters often host art exhibitions, with art lovers from all over the world coming to see and buy their creations. Sometimes the paintings are sold at high prices.
Performing arts are equally popular and admired.Dance, instrumental music, drama and so on require unusual artistic talent as well as a long period of education and training before audiences start to applaud the performances. But anyone with some artistic sense can make art part of his/her life, and benefit from it.

C
Can you imagine a world without music? Studies show that public schools across the country are cutting back on music classes to save money. Worse, some schools have never had music classes to begin with. But without them, students could suffer in many ways, including their studies and emotion. In fact, music classes are necessary for all students in schools.
Recent studies by Brown University have shown that students who received music classes were better in math and reading skills than those without music classes. Another study by the College Board found that students taking music and art classes got higher points. Students' success in studies seems to depend on their taking part in music education.
Music programs in public schools also help to add to a student's sense of pride and selfconfidence. Music programs encourage students to work together to produce an excellent performance.
Music crosses language, class, cultural and political boundaries. Music allows students from different countries to connect. For example, at a school talent show, a new Japanese student played a piano duet with an American classmate. Although they didn't speak the same language, they were able to read the music in order to play the duet. Two students from different cultures worked as a team with selfconfidence and common purpose through music.
28.Education with music classes could ____________.
A.have a bad influence on the quality of education

C.Music—a bridge to understanding
D.The importance of listening to music
D
Have you ever thought about why malls, restaurants, and even theaters have music? Well, to understand this, you simply just look back at how you felt when you heard music in these places. Music is known to improve the mood of people. Often music helps us pay attention to what we are doing. Music helps patients feel good and helps them recover faster and better.
Depression (沮丧) is a state of mind that most of us experience at some point of time. There are some periods in our life when everything seems difficult. It seems that everything is getting worse and we have no control over our life. Studies have shown that music can be an important mood lifter in such situations. Music also plays a great role in making us feel less nervous or worried. Anxiety can often cause loss of sleep and other illnesses.
Music is often known as an international language. We may not know the language another person is speaking, but most of us respond to music in the same way. Music can often be the best way to connect with someone.
Music is one of the best ways to improve your moods, but this can depend largely on the kind of music you listen to. While happy music can certainly make you feel better, sad music can further lower your spirits. Listening to classical music can often make you feel a lot more powerful, while soft music can be the perfect way to relax at the end of a long way. If you want to use music to change the way how you are feeling, you need to understand the role of it, learn to recognize the kind of music that lifts your mood and helps you feel better. Once you realize the kind of music you can use, you can use it to change the way you feel. The right kind of music can be the perfect way to help us feel happier.
32.The passage is mainly about ____________.
A.what meanings music has B.how we control our moods
C.how music affects our moods D.what kind of music we listen to
33.According to the passage, playing music in restaurants is to ____________.
A.welcome the customers B.make customers feel good
C.make customers dance D.make customers feel depressed
34.From the passage, we can know that ____________.
A.most of us suffer depression all the time
B.most of us respond to music in different ways
C.music can be a good way to connect with others
D.any kind of music will help us improve our moods
35.According to the passage, which kind of music can relax ourselves from a long day's work?
A.Soft music. B.Classical music.
C.Sad music. D.Rock music.

Emily White was born seventeen years ago with so many birth problems in her body. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance.
In Emily White's hometown, there was a yearly outdoor performance in the school auditorium (礼堂). It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town's people. Many people tried out each year for it but so many were turned away. It could only include the most excellent people in the field.
Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs Owens—her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs Owens took a look at Emily's body and said, “Child, you just don't fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.”
Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral (合唱) room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs Owens then retired.
This year, there came a new music teacher, Butler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.
Emily didn't want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr Butler called, “Emily, you're next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr Butler told her to do. Mr Butler sat by the piano to accompany Emily. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr Butler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.
Emily couldn't sleep that night. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn't fit and the great need to be accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain because of stress.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

The first American President, George Washington, worked with the city planner Pierre L'Enfant to choose the land for the new presidential home. A competition was held to find a building designer.
Nine plans were considered, and the architect James Hoban won. Construction began in 1792. The first president to live there was John Adams. He and his wife Abigail moved into the White House in 1800. During the war of 1812,British troops burned most of the inside of the White House. James Hoban helped rebuild it. Over the years, each president has made changes or additions to the building.
The White House walls are made of stone that is painted white. But the famous building has had other names over time, including the President's House and the Executive Mansion. In the early 1900s, President Theodore Roosevelt made the White House its official name.

Music plays an important role in our life. It can make us feel relaxed both mentally and physically, thus helping reduce our pressure in study. What's more, it can excite and encourage us whenever we meet troubles because of its comforting and inspiring effect. Besides, music can be of great help for us to understand other cultures. I like pop music which can bring me excitement and lovely tunes.
What are your opinions about music? Looking forward to your early reply!
Yours,

She would sing alone in the performance. Emily couldn't believe her eyes. There must be some mistake. But Mr Butler said to her with determined eyes, “Emily, I choose you because you should perform the part—your voice is unusual. Believe in yourself.” Greatly encouraged, Emily practiced really hard.
Finally, thedayofperformancecame. Standing in front of the line, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. When the curtain opened up, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. “Emily White!”, someone whispered. Then, along with the first note of music, Emily began to sing her heart out. Her voice was like a nightingale ringing in the auditorium. Applause! Emily felt so happy and comfortable. She was shining on the stage. Emily White, with so many birth problems in her body, was an angel.
