Teaching aims:
1. After this lesson, Ss can know and use properly the following words and phrases: smell, salt, sour, soft, cookie, pizza, lovely, done, try, have a try, pie, sound, sweet tooth, jam, ear, etc.
2. After this class, Ss can understand the sentences concluding link verbs that express sensation and perception and match them with corresponding pictures.
3. After this lesson, Ss can use the sensory verbs properly such as feel, look, smell, etc. and give some comments on food.
key point: Ss can know and write the following words: smell, taste, feel, look and so on.
Difficult point: Ss can make sentences with sensory verbs.
Teaching process
Step one lead in
T shows a short video about delicious food, and asks Ss how does it look. Ss say “it looks delicious.”
Step two warning up
T shows the pictures and words on the PPT: cookie, cake, pie, cheese, pizza, salt and jam; T shows the five sense on the PPT and asks Ss what can we use them for.
Step three pre-listening: play a chain game
T shows three rows of words on the PPT and invites ss to have a conversation taking the given sentences for example.
Step four while-listening: activity 1&2
T leads Ss to finish the activity 1 and 2.
Step five while-listening: activity 3
Ss listen to the passage for the first time and check what Betty is making.
Step six while-listening
Ss listen to the passage again and have a role play. T asks Ss to highlight the senses verbs.
Step seven post-listening
T shows the language points on the PPT

What a delicious smell! 好香的气味啊!
What + a/an + 形容词 + 可数名词单数!
感叹句的其他句型结构:
What + 形容词 + 名词复数/不可数名词 (+主语+谓语)!
How + 形容词/副词 + (主语 + 谓语)!
- would like to do = want to do = feel like doing
3. senses verbs
4 .a bit
(1) a bit +形容词 /副词 “有点,稍微...”
(2)a little/a bit of +不可数名词, 意思为“一点”
a little water=a bit of water(不可数名词),意思为“一点水”。
5 .be done
6 .fixed sentence patterns: I’m afraid.../ Have a try!/ It’s my lucky day!
Step eight summary
Ss finish the activity 4&5; Ss read aloud the following expressions and try to remember them.
1. 闻起来美味smell delicious
2. 尝起来好吃 taste good
3. 在顶上,在上面on top
4. 有点儿a bit
5. 完成了be done
6. 尝一尝;试试看have a try
7. 在中间 in the middle
8. 很多 lots of/a lot of
9. 喜欢甜食 have a sweet tooth
10. 变酸 go sour
Homework
Copy the words and expressions on page112, from smell to jam, three times in English while once in Chinese.
Teaching reflection
During this class, I tried to give students the opportunities to speak English as much as possible, but due to the time limit, not every student has the chance to interact with the teacher. Besides, I think more exercises should be given to students so as to let them understand and master the language points better.
