Section A (1a-2c)
The analysis of this lesson
The topic of this part is “everyday activities”. In 1a, there’re nine different pictures showing nine different activities. All the activities are about the daily things which happen in our families. I’ll lead out the present progressive tense by using the pictures, train students to use the structure “be doing” to talk about the things that people are doing.
In this part, I will use the pictures about my family and friends to help students to practice the present progressive tense. Then let students enhance the knowledge by playing games and exercises.

Students can master the phrases: watch TV, clean, read a newspaper, talk on the phone, listen to a CD, use the computer, make soup, wash the dishes, exercise.

Students master the ability to communicate with each other by using the present progressive tense.

① Communicative teaching method, listening practice
② Always encourage students no matter what their answers are.
③ Use efficient teaching language and gestures to make the class more active and efficiency.

Step 1 Lead-in
How many people are there in your family ? Four? six? There are six people in my family . Today I want to introduce them to you. Let’s go !
Step 2 Present the new words
①Show pictures about family: sing, brush teeth, watch TV, make soup,wash the dishes.
② Then Show pictures about friends: clean, read a newspaper, talk on the phone…
From familiar knowledge to unfamiliar knowledge, this way may help students master the target language more easily.
Step 3 Practice the new words and the present progressive tense
① Ask students to speak out the phrases by showing the pictures.
② Have students read the phrases on PPT. Do “Ask and Answer” In this way, students will have a deep impression of the form “doing”.
③Finish 1a, check the answers. Do a challenge “Where are the people ?” to help students memorize the phrases better.
Step 4 Listening
① Finish 1b. Pay attention to what are Jenny, John, Dave and Mary doing? Write the numbers from 1a.
② Listen and match.
③ Fill in the blanks.
While listening to the tape, walk around the classroom to make sure that
if students have problems completing the task, give help if necessary.
Step 5 Games
① Who is the fastest. In this part , I’ll the pictures very quickly , students should stand up and speak out the sentence loudly, the fastest group is the winner.
② Guessing game. I’ll show half of the pictures,then students should try to guess “What is he/she doing ?”
This way can make the class more interesting and help students to master the knowledge.
Step 6 Exercise
Do some exercises to practice the knowledge. Find out the key points to use the present progressive tense.
Step 7 Summary & Homework
- Review the knowledge of this class, think about the differences between the simple tense and the present progressive tense.
- Preview the rules of “doing”.
- Preview 2d, complete 3a, 3b.
- Recite the phrases in 1a.
