A scientist in China had a dream when he was a child. In the dream, he grew a new type f rice that was as big as a peanut. The plant allwed farmers t rest in its shade. That child was Yuan Lngping. Yuan grew up and became the “Father f Hybrid Rice”．
In the 1960s， a few years after he finished his studies in agriculture at university, he came up with an idea fr hybrid rice. Since then， he has spent much f his time researching and develping new varieties.
In 1973, tgether with ther scientists, he succeeded in develping hybrid rice. The intrductin f this new prduct made China a leader in rice prductin. Fr this, he became knwn as the “Father f Hybrid Rice”. In 1980, the technlgy fr hybrid rice was intrduced t the United States and, later, t many ther cuntries arund the wrld.
