阅读理解
I don't think I can recall a time when I wasn't aware of the beauty of the ocean. Growing up in Australia, I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side. The first time I went to Halfmoon Bay, I suddenly had the feeling of not being able to feel the ground with my feet anymore.
For my 10th birthday, my sister and I were taken out to the Great Barrier Reef. There were fish in different colors, caves and layers of coral. They made such an impression on me. When I learned that only 1 percent of Australia's Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked. Australian marine (海洋的) life is particularly important because the reefs have more marine species than any other country on earth. But sadly, only 45% of the world's reefs are considered healthy.
This statistic is depressing, so it's important for us to do everything to protect them. The hope that the Coral Sea remains a complete ecosystem has led me to take action. I've become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean's species will all have a safe place forever.
Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be part of the movement. Angus also shares many beautiful childhood memories of the ocean as a young boy, who grew up sailing, admiring the beauty of the ocean, and trying to find the secrets of ocean species.
1. From the underlined sentence in Para. 1, we can learn the author ________.
A. seldom went surfing at the sea
B. forgot his experiences about the ocean
C. never went back to his hometown
D. had a wonderful impression of Halfmoon Bay
2. According to the second paragraph, Australian marine life ________.
A. is escaping from the Coral Sea gradually
B. depends on reefs for living greatly
C. may be faced with danger
D. is protected better than that in other oceans
3. Angus and the author create a little video to ________.
A. urge more people to take action to protect the marine species
B. inspire more people to explore the secret of the ocean
C. share their childhood experiences about the ocean
D. bring back to people their memory of ocean species

Sleep difficulties are a common problem for millions of adults. Even if you can get to sleep, you might have trouble staying asleep. Does this sound familiar? You drift off to dreamland, but find yourself wide awake at 3 a.m., or maybe you wake up every few hours throughout the night.
____1____. But if your sleep is interrupted, you’re likely to feel exhausted and sleepy the next day. ____2____.
1. Too much caffeine
You probably already know caffeine can affect your ability to fall asleep. ____3____. It often takes your body that many hours to get rid of half the caffeine you consumed. The bottom line is that you may feel the effects of caffeine several hours after you drink it. Keep in mind, energy drinks, cola and certain teas also contain caffeine. It’s best to avoid caffeine about six hours before bed.
2. Stress
Stress and lack of sleep seem to go hand in hand. If you’re stressed, it can be hard to sleep well and may lead to insomnia (失眠). When you don’t get enough sleep, that can also lead to more stress and it becomes a vicious cycle (恶性循环). Adults who get less than eight hours of sleep each night report higher levels of stress symptoms than those who sleep longer. Although it can be easier said than done, ____4____.
3. Sleep environment
Your sleep environment can contribute to poor sleep. For example, loud noises or light peeking (露出) through the shades can wake you from a sound sleep. ___5___. Buy a quality mattress and comfortable bedding and consider keeping your bedroom cool, which help sleep. Make sure your curtains are heavy enough to block out sunlight and use earplugs (耳塞) to block sounds from outside.
4. Eating too late
A light midnight snack may be fine, but a heavy meal too close to bedtime may leave you wide awake during the night. Therefore, if you do want a snack before bed, keep it light and stay away from spicy and fatty foods.
A. So, what gives?
B. doing some intense activities is essential.
C. it’s important to relax and ease pressure before sleep.
D. So, what sort of things can help you to improve your sleep?
E. Fortunately, there are ways to make your bedroom more sleep-friendly.
F. But it can also lead to poor quality sleep including waking up at midnight.
G. Enough sleep is supposed to leave you feeling refreshed and ready to start your day.

They had the idea of starting a day to remind people to put away some money for a rainy day. This is how World Savings Day, held on Oct. 31st _____2_____(annual),was started, and it's still going strong in 2022.
Not surprisingly, a movement _____3_____(target) the poor was started. People in the underdeveloped world are more open _____4_____ the call to be careful with money. Other people don't spend money because they don't like the culture of _____7_____(consume). This is connected to the view that we should make ourselves happy through the activities we take part in, rather than with _____8_____we buy.
But however we view money, moderate _____9_____(spend) is certainly a good idea when we are still too young to get a job. There is a British saying that offers some good advice in this situation: “ Look after the pennies, and the pounds will look after _____10_____(they).”
读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Deep in the forest, my husband and I had fun climbing over and crawling under the downed trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill. When we noticed our jeans were wet up to our knees, it did not dampen our spirits. Not once did we say, “let's turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises.
The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometre hike, yet we were already walking a long distance. Our light-heartedness stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a national park that did not officially open for another week.
Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; in fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cellphone signal in this isolated(偏僻的) area.
It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road, and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.
My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me: the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life, I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet with a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.

读后续写
【答案】
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance. In no time did we find ourselves heading for it. We were filled with hope and excitement to find such a building in the middle of nowhere. We climbed up the hill at a swinging pace as if all the pains were gone. As we approached, a sign came into sight, which read: Administration Office. However, it was not open for business. The empty hall made us nervous all at once. We stood there hopelessly wondering what to do next.
Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.” I could barely hold back my enthusiasm and blurted out, “We're lost!” She comforted us and opened a room for us to take a break. Seeing we were cold and hungry, she treated us with hot chocolate. After studying the map, we figured out that our car was parked over three kilometres away. She offered us a ride back to our car and we accepted gladly. I felt relieved to see our rental car again. What a blessing to have such an unforgettable experience!
