Should teenagers be allowed to have parttime jobs? We did a survey among two hundred people. According to the result, 78% say yes, and 22% say no. We choose some reasons as follows.
Agree
Disagree
Jobs prepare teenagers for later life.
Many college graduates (毕业生)look forward to a satisfying job. But almost all job interviewers say they want someone with experience. It's difficult for you to get a job with no work experience.
—Amy, Shanghai
It is the time to study.
If teenagers start working, they won't have time to study. They might keep on working to achieve someone else's dreams, not theirs. They are too young to decide for their future.
—Scarlet, Beijing
Jobs teach responsibility(责任).
Teenagers at 14 and older should be allowed to have parttime jobs. They teach responsibility and how to work as a team. What's more, teens who earn money at a young age can learn how to manage personal finances(财务).
—Kate, Chongqing
Kids should pay more attention to their education.
According to the survey, students who work more than 15 hours per week might lose interest in school and their grades may drop. This means kids might not enter university if they work parttime for a long time.
—Tony, Guangzhou
56. What does Amy think of parttime jobs?
A. Awful. B. Boring.
C. Helpful. D. Tiring.
57. How long does Tony think teenagers can work per week?
A. For over 14 hours.

D. For less than 16 hours.

Once a man went to visit a circus (马戏团) in New York. He was able to walk around looking at the lions, monkeys, bears and other circus animals. As he was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped. He found that these huge elephants were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains(链子), no cages. It was clear that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their ropes but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and didn't try to get away. “Well, ” the trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller, we use the same size rope to tie them, and at that age, it's enough to hold them. As they grow up, they still believe they can not break away. They believe the rope can hold them, so they never try to break free. ”
“How could it be?” said the man. These animals could at any time break free from ropes. But because they were always stuck right where they were, they believed they couldn't.
Just like poor elephants, how many of us go through life believing that we can not do something, just because we failed at it once before?

Last week, I finally managed to ask my parents to buy me a new football shirt for the school match. I was very excited and wore it to the training before the match, but I wished I hadn't done that! My new shirt was torn after the training and only a tailor(裁缝) could help!
As I walked home worriedly, I saw a shop sign:All Kinds of Repairs and Services! I went inside at once. I looked around the shop and saw broken toys, broken chairs…I wondered if I was in the wrong place. Just at that moment, a man with white hair came up to me and said cheerfully, “Welcome! This is a repair shop and I can repair everything!”
“But…what I need is a tailor to deal with my football shirt. ”
“You've come to the right place. I have been waiting a long, long time to repair a football shirt. ”
“Really?” I held the shirt in my hands.
To my surprise, he took the shirt from me, put on glasses and sat down on the sofa with my shirt in his hands. “I guess you are a striker(前锋), ”he smiled warmly. How could he know? The man gave me a wink and said calmly, “See that picture on the wall? That was me 30 years ago. ”
I couldn't believe my eyes! He was Orhan, the famous footballer who was on the city team years ago!
I told him everything, my dream, my practice and even my dad's words. “Dad thinks I should be an engineer or a doctor, ” I lowered my head. “Follow your dream, choose a job you love and carry on. ”The man smiled at me with his blue eyes.

If you argue with your friend, will you forgive him or her? Most people prefer to forgive others.
Researchers have found that we would like to believe that people are good at heart, even when they have behaved badly. And when these “bad people” do something nice, people will be likely to forgive their mistakes and have a positive opinion of them.
In an experiment, more than 1, 500 people were asked to watch two strangers. The strangers were told that they would receive money if they shocked another person with electricity. The “good” stranger refused the deal and the “bad” one accepted it.
These people were then asked to judge the strangers based on their decisions. They reported having a positive opinion of the “good”stranger. But they were not confident that the“bad” stranger was truly bad. If they then saw the bad person do something good, they were more likely to have a positive impression of him or her.
Scientists believe that it is human nature to see the best in others. This nature can help us develop and keep healthy social relationships. Sometimes, people behave badly by accident. But we might get a bad impression of them anyway and therefore end our relationship with them. But what happens if it is found later that this person is not truly bad? We may have lost a good friend.
70. According to the researchers, most people ____.
A. will argue with their friends
B. like to forgive others' mistakes
C. will make the same mistake
D. like to make many friends
71. What does the underlined word “positive”in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese?
A. 消极的 B. 轻蔑的 C. 积极的 D. 鄙视的
72. What is the last paragraph trying to say?
A. Being forgiving helps us keep relationships.
B. Ending a relationship is not an easy decision.
C. Believing others is important in a relationship.
D. Judging strangers is not as easy as judging friends.

No one is born a winner. I took the head coaching(训练)job at a school in Georgia many years ago. It was a small school with a weak football program.
It was a tradition for the school's old team to play against the new team at the end of spring practice. The old team had no coach, and they didn't even practice to win the game. Being the coach of the new team, I was excited because I thought we could win. But to my disappointment, we were beaten. I came to realize that I had to change my attitude(态度).
I started doing anything I could to help them build a little pride. Most importantly, I began to treat them like winners. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their vacations, we met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football.
Six months later, we won our first game and our second, and continued to improve. Finally, we faced the number one team in the state. To my surprise, my boys beat the best team in Georgia.
From the experience, I learnt the attitude of the leader can greatly affect the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and encouraged them. I helped them build themselves into winners. We should remember winners are made, not born.

A. Awful. B. Boring.
C. Helpful. D. Tiring.
