    设计说明
    本课时由“9·11”事件和2·22新西兰克莱斯特彻奇地震引入到新课的学习。课文讲述了作者两次意想不到的经历,均在事件中幸运脱险。课文教学从朗读入手,由浅及深,设计各个环节,训练学生对课文的整体理解和细节把握能力。对短文中出现的知识点进行讲解,联系短文中的实例,对过去完成时态的含义、构成和运用进行讲解和训练。最后,通过当堂达标,学生可自我检验自己的学习实效,以便查漏补缺。
    教学目标
    通过本课时的学习,让学生达成以下目标:
    1. 知识目标

    Step 1 Revision
    1. Show the phrases to class.
    (1)在……以前 (2)捎……一程
    (3)开始做某事 (4)(闹钟等)发出响声

    2. Ask the students to say the phrases in English on their own.
    3. Check the answers. And then ask the students to write them down.

    T: On September 11, 2001, something unexpected happened in America. A plane hit the World Trade Center. The buildings were burning.

    T: What happened in New Zealand on February 22, 2011?
    S: I think there was an earthquake in New Zealand on that day.

    Get the students to look and answer.

    Get the class to listen and find out the sentences with “had+done”.
    Answers: ①Before I could join the others outside to see what was going on, the first plane had already hit my office building.

    我正要上楼,这时我决定先去买一杯咖啡。
    be about to意为“即将做某事”,侧重于表示动作马上就要发生,常与when引导的从句连用,但不与具体的时间状语连用。
    The plane is about to take off. 飞机马上就要起飞了。
    2. I went to my favorite coffee place even though it was two blocks east from my office. 我去了我最喜欢的咖啡店,虽然它在我办公室东边两个街区以外。
    even though意为“即使,虽然,尽管”,用于引导让步状语从句。
    He can play the piano very well even though he is only three years old.
    他虽然只有三岁,但弹钢琴弹得很好。
    3. We stared in disbelief at the black smoke rising above the burning building.
    我们吃惊地盯着从燃烧的大楼上升起的黑烟,无法相信(这一切)。
    (1)stare 动词,意为“盯着看;凝视”,表示看得比较仔细,有时也表示吃惊地看,常与at, into连用。
    Don’t stare at me like that.
    别那样盯着我看。
    (2) in disbelief意为“不相信,疑惑,怀疑”。
    She looked at him in disbelief.她全然不信地看着他。

    ①作介词
    a.“(表示位置)在……正上方;高于”(与 below相对)。
    He lifted his hands above his head. 他将双手举过头顶。
    b. 表示在地位、级别、能力、资历、重要性等方面“超过”、“在……之上”、“比……强”。
    He is above the others in ability. 他的能力优于其他人。
    ②作副词,意为“在上面”。
    See the examples given above. 见上述例子。
    4. I felt lucky to be alive. 我觉得我能够活着很幸运。
    alive形容词,意为“活着;有生气的”,侧重说明生与死之间的界限,既可指人,也可指物。可用来作表语、后置定语等。
    He is dead, but his dog is still alive.(作表语)
    他死了,但他的狗还活着。
    People alive should try their best to live better. (作后置定语)
    活下来的人应该尽力生活得更好。

    意为“活着的”,强调说明“尚在人间”,“健在”,可用来指人或物,作定语或表语
    live
    意为“活的”,通常指物,不指人,常用作定语放在名词的前面。
    还指“实况转播的”
    lively
    意为“活泼的”,“活跃热情的”,“充满活力的”,可作定语、表语或宾补,既可指人,又可指物

    He said he had seen a live whale. 他说他看见过活鲸。
    Jenny is a lively girl. 珍妮是个活泼的女孩。
    5. But by the time I got to the airport, my plane to New Zealand had already taken off.

    take off意为“(飞机等)起飞”。
    We eventually took off at 11 o’clock and arrived in Venice at 1:30.

    A possible answer:
    On September 11, 2001, I arrived at my building in the morning and was about to enter the office building, when suddenly I decided to buy a coffee. The unexpected thing came about when I was waiting in the line that a plane crashed the office building where I work. People were staring at the burning building in disbelief. How dangerous it was!
    Step 6 Grammar focus
    过去完成时
    一、概念
    过去完成时表示某一动作或状态在过去某一时间或动作之前已经发生或完成,也可以指过去的动作延续到过去的某一时刻,它表示发生的时间是“过去的过去”。

    谓语构成:“助动词had+过去分词”,其中had通用于各种人称。
    肯定/否定句:主语+had/hadn’t+过去分词+…
    一般疑问句:Had +主语+过去分词…?
    (Yes, 主语+had. / No, 主语+hadn’t.)
    特殊疑问句:疑问词+had+主语+过去分词+...?
    二、过去完成时的判断依据
    1. 由时间状语来判定:
    表示动作从过去持续到过去一段时间。与过去完成时连用的时间状语有:
    (1) by + 过去的时间点。
    I had finished reading the novel by nine o’clock last night.
    昨天晚上九点前我已经读完这本小说了。
    (2) by the end of + 过去的时间点。
    We had learned over two thousand English words by the end of last term.
    截止到上学期末,我们已经学了两千多个英文单词了。
    (3) before + 过去的时间点。
    They had planted six hundred trees before last Wednesday.
    上周三以前他们已经种了六百棵树了。
    2. 由“过去的过去”来判定:
    过去完成时表示“过去的过去”,是指过去某一动作之前已经发生或完成的动作,即动作有先后关系,动作在前的用过去完成时,在后的用一般过去时。这种用法常出现在以下情况中:
    (1)宾语从句中: 当宾语从句的主句为一般过去时,且从句的动作先于主句的动作时,从句要用过去完成时。在told, said, knew, heard, thought等动词后的宾语从句。
    She said that she had seen the film before.
    她说她以前看过这部电影。
    (2) 状语从句中:在时间、条件、原因、方式等状语从句中,主、从句的动作发生有先后关系,动作在前的要用过去完成时,动作在后的要用一般过去时。
    When I got to the station, the train had already left.
    当我到达车站时,火车已经离开了。
    After he had finished his homework, he went to bed.
    他完成家庭作业以后,就上床睡觉了。
