Aging is a natural part of life, yet it has long been regarded as something to be ashamed of. Luckily, many people are speaking up to change that. Even better, some are having a lot of fun and freeing themselves while doing so. Candace Leslie Cima is a 76-year-old fashion and lifestyle influencer working to change the attitudes regarding aging for both her generation and the ones following hers via her social media presence called Life in My 70s.
Cima’s story as an influencer began at 72, when she first got an Instagram account. Curious about what influencers were, she took a deep dive, only to find that there weren’t that many voices in her age group. “I remember being on the checkout line at a supermarket and looking at the headlines on those magazines. They would always have headlines like ‘How to look your best at 20, 30, and 40.’ Never did they mention 50, 60, and 70.” She began to post videos, in which she confidently walking by a pool deck in a bathing suit, giving styling tips, or showcasing her strength by climbing a tree.
In addition to her videos, Cima also has a blog where she speaks at length about aging and fashion, making it as accessible as possible for women of all walks of life. After all, everyone ages, so we all as a society should normalize these changes and learn to see them positively.
For her, age is not just a number, it’s a badge of honor to wear proudly. “The only way that view is going to change is that we, as older women, show them that aging is a gift, something to be embraced, valued and shared,” she writes.
4. Why did Cima work on her social media?
A. To share her daily fashion videos. B. To voice her idea about social events.
C. To influence people’s views on aging. D. To change people’s attitude to fashion.
5. What inspired Cima to post videos?
A. Strong desire to be an influencer. B. Wonderful life of aged people.
C. Old-fashioned lifestyle of the aged. D. Little attention to people of her age.
6. Which of the following will Cima agree with?
A. Seniors can redefine aging. B. Media are friendly to seniors
C. People should respect seniors. D. Climbing trees is good for seniors.
7. What words can best describe Cima?
A. Confident and active. B. Generous and frank.
C Energetic and wealthy. D. Outgoing and intelligent.
C 5. D 6. A 7. A

Like social media giants before it, TikTok hasn’t just contributed to the cultural conversation. It’s literally changed how entire industries operate and affected how we live, eat, watch and buy. In fact, even if you’ve never spent a single second on the app, there’s likely something in your life that has been changed by TikTok’s powerful influence.
Social media, like Youtube, Instagram and the now-defunct short video platform Vine, has always been a pipeline to fame for a few lucky people. However, because of the way TikTok’s algorithm (算法) works, learning users’ interests and preferences in real time as they interact with content, it’s not unusual for videos created by everyday people to suddenly get millions of views as they are pushed into users’ feeds.
BookTok-TikTok’s communities of readers-has become a major driving force in book sales, even influencing how major retailers, like Barnes Noble, market and display their products. The effect, in some cases, has been unbelievable. Colleen Hoover, an author of young adult fiction, has become a huge name thanks to the app. In 2021, Hoover sold nearly 1.9 million copies of her books, according to Publishers Weekly. In 2022, that number rocketed to 14.3 million-and that’s just physical copies.
TikTok began, and is still largely defined as, a music and dancing app. Unsurprisingly, perhaps no industry has been as affected by its power as the music industry. Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song “drivers license” is a perfect example of how far this phenomenon can go. The song first appeared on the app back in 2021, when a video of someone copying Rodrigo’s music video went viral. Soon, thousands of people were posting their own versions of the video.
Regardless, it speaks to the power of TikTok that it has the ability to not only influence, but completely redirect, longstanding billion-dollar industries.
8. What’s the main reason why TikTok videos have higher click-through rates?
A. Interesting topics B. Eye-catching titles.
C. Sufficient TikTok users. D. Personalized recommendations.
9. What can we learn from paragraph 3?
A. BookTok drives up sales of books.
B. Print industry is facing challenges.
C. Major booksellers control the market.
D. Publishers issue new books on BookTok.
10. Which field has been influenced by TikTok most so far?
A. Book-selling. B. Music. C. Sports. D. Education.
11. What is the text mainly talking about?
A. Videos well-received on TikTok.
B. Ways to become famous on TikTok.
C. Reasons for the popularity of TikTok.
D. TikTok’s impact on various industries.
D 9. A 10. B 11. D
根据第二段中“However, because of the way TikTok’s algorithm (算法) works, learning users’ interests and preferences in real time as they interact with content, it’s not unusual for videos created by everyday people to suddenly get millions of views as they are pushed into users’ feeds. (然而,由于TikTok算法的工作方式,在用户与内容互动时实时了解用户的兴趣和偏好,普通人创建的视频在被推送到用户的订阅源时突然获得数百万次观看的情况并不罕见)”可知,TikTok视频点击率更高的主要原因是在用户与内容互动时实时了解用户的兴趣和偏好,也就是它的个性化推荐。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“BookTok-TikTok’s communities of readers-has become a major driving force in book sales, even influencing how major retailers, like Barnes Noble, market and display their products. (booktok——tiktok的读者社区——已经成为图书销售的主要推动力,甚至影响了巴诺(Barnes Noble)等大型零售商营销和展示产品的方式)”可知,BookTok推动了图书销售。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“TikTok began, and is still largely defined as, a music and dancing app. Unsurprisingly, perhaps no industry has been as affected by its power as the music industry. (TikTok最初是一款音乐和舞蹈应用,现在它在很大程度上仍被定义为这款应用。毫不奇怪,也许没有哪个行业像音乐行业那样受到它的影响力的影响)”可知,目前音乐受到TikTok的影响最大。故选B项。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Like social media giants before it, TikTok hasn’t just contributed to the cultural conversation. It’s literally changed how entire industries operate and affected how we live, eat, watch and buy. In fact, even if you’ve never spent a single second on the app, there’s likely something in your life that has been changed by TikTok’s powerful influence. (就像之前的社交媒体巨头一样,TikTok不仅为文化对话做出了贡献。它确实改变了整个行业的运作方式,影响了我们的生活、饮食、观看和购买方式。事实上,即使你从未在这款应用上花过一秒钟,你的生活中也可能有一些东西已经被TikTok的强大影响力改变了)”可知,本文主要讲述了TikTok对各个行业的影响。故选D项。

The older you get, the more difficult it is to learn to speak French like a Parisian. But what is the exact cutoff point—at what age it becomes harder?
To analyse this problem, a research team collected data on a person’s current age, language capability and time studying English. The investigators thought they needed more than half a million people to figure out when the “critical period” for achieving the highest levels of grammatical fluency ends. So they turned to the world’s greatest experimental subject pool: the internet.
They created a short online grammar quiz. From the responses, an algorithm predicted the tester’s native language and which dialect of English they spoke. Meanwhile, the researchers developed models that predicted how long it takes to become fluent in a language and the best age to start learning. They concluded that the ability to learn a new language, at least grammatically, is strongest until the age of 18, after which there is a sharp decline. To become completely fluent, however, learning should start before the age of 10.
There are three main ideas as to why language-learning ability declines at 18: social changes, interference from one’s primary language and continuing brain development. At 18, kids typically graduate high school and go on to start college or enter the work force full-time. Once they do, they may no longer have the time, opportunity or learning environment to study a second language like they did when they were younger.
However, Elissa Newport, a professor at Georgetown University who specializes in language learning, remains a skeptic, saying “Testing 600,000 people doesn’t give you a dependable, reliable outcome if you’re not asking the right questions. Besides, even among native speakers it takes 30 years to fully master a language and there are numerous examples of people who pick up a language later in life, and our ability to learn new vocabulary appears to remain constant.”
12. Why did the researchers turn to the Internet to collect data?
A. They are good at computer operation
B. They want to get an exact conclusion.
C. The Internet can lower the cost of the research.
D. Internet Data Centers provide reliable resources
13. Which can replace the underlined word “decline” in paragraph 3?
A. Drop. B. Increase. C. Turn. D. Push.
14. What’s the author’s attitude towards the result of the research?
A. Negative. B. Supportive. C. Objective. D. Doubtful.
15. What can be the best title?
A. It’s never too old to learn
B. Age affects language learning
C. Online quiz predicts native language
D. Grammar counts in language learning
B 13. A 14. C 15. B
根据第二段中“To analyse this problem, a research team collected data on a person’s current age, language capability and time studying English. The investigators thought they needed more than half a million people to figure out when the “critical period” for achieving the highest levels of grammatical fluency ends. So they turned to the world’s greatest experimental subject pool: the internet.(为了分析这个问题,一个研究小组收集了一个人目前的年龄、语言能力和学习英语的时间的数据。研究人员认为,他们需要50多万人才能弄清楚达到最高语法流利程度的“关键时期”何时结束。因此,他们转向了世界上最大的实验对象池:互联网)”可知,研究人员转向互联网来收集数据是为了得到一个确切的结论。故选B项。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据前文“They concluded that the ability to learn a new language, at least grammatically, is strongest until the age of 18(他们得出的结论是,学习一门新语言的能力,至少在语法上,在18岁之前是最强的)”可知,研究发现学习一门新语言的能力,至少在语法上,在18岁之前是最强的,从而推知,之后应是下降,所以decline应是“下降”之意和drop相近。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“There are three main ideas as to why language-learning ability declines at 18: social changes, interference from one’s primary language and continuing brain development. At 18, kids typically graduate high school and go on to start college or enter the work force full-time. Once they do, they may no longer have the time, opportunity or learning environment to study a second language like they did when they were younger.(关于18岁时语言学习能力下降的原因,有三种主要观点:社会变化、母语的干扰以及大脑的持续发育。18岁时,孩子们通常从高中毕业,然后开始上大学或全职工作。一旦他们这样做了,他们可能不再有时间、机会或学习环境来学习第二语言,就像他们年轻时那样)”可知,作者客观列举了导致研究结果的原因。故选C项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“The older you get, the more difficult it is to learn to speak French like a Parisian. But what is the exact cutoff point—at what age it becomes harder?(年纪越大,学巴黎人那样说法语就越困难。但确切的分界点是什么——什么年龄会变得更难呢?)”可知,B项“Age affects language learning(年龄影响语言学习)”是本文最好的标题。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Although holidays only lasts a few days each year, many of us spend months planning for it. But as enjoyable as all the parties and festivities might be, many people find they feel a bit burnt-out once the holidays have come and gone. ____16____. Here’s why this happens and what you can do to recover after the holidays are over.
Many of us are exposed to various stressors over a very short period of time throughout the holiday season-whether it’s queuing for presents, sitting in traffic on the way to visit friends or family, or even worrying about money. As soon as your brain senses a stressor, it stirs your sympatheticnervous system When the sympathetic nervous system is activated, the body produces adrenaline (肾上腺素) and begins working harder. ____17____.
One way to reduce the negative impact of stress is to experience positive emotions. Recalling can help you get a new view on your experiences, which helps you see your life in a more balanced way. ____18____. Discuss them with family members and friends. The more effort you put into this activity, the better your results.
____19____. Before going to bed, try to vividly imagine four positive events that could happen to you the next day. They might be as simple as receiving a text from someone you care about. Then as soon as you are ready, go to bed. This technique will help you get a good night’s sleep-sleep is important for helping you to recover from burnout.
____20____, remembering why we choose to celebrate with friends and family can help us overcome any stress and burnout that we may now be experiencing.
A. While holidays are a time of joy
B. The second way is to imagine positive events
C. The other way is to get a good night’s sleep
D. Recall good times using reminders such as photographs
E. Although holidays can certainly be a stressful time for many of us
F. This feeling has even been termed “festive burnout” or “holiday burnout”
G. You may experience these changes like feeling more sweaty or having a pounding chest
F 17. G 18. D 19. C 20. E
根据前文“Although holidays only lasts a few days each year, many of us spend months planning for it. But as enjoyable as all the parties and festivities might be, many people find they feel a bit burnt-out once the holidays have come and gone.(虽然每年的假期只有几天,但我们中的许多人会花几个月的时间来计划。但是,尽管所有的派对和庆祝活动可能都很愉快,但许多人发现,一旦假期来了又走了,他们就会感到有点筋疲力尽)”可知,前文陈述了一种节日后人们感到疲惫的现象。F项“This feeling has even been termed “festive burnout” or “holiday burnout”(这种感觉甚至被称为“节日倦怠”或“假日倦怠”)”符合文以,是对前文的描述下定义。故选F项。
空处位于段尾,应承接上文,根据前文“As soon as your brain senses a stressor, it stirs your sympatheticnervous system (交感神经系统). When the sympathetic nervous system is activated, the body produces adrenaline (肾上腺素) and begins working harder. (一旦你的大脑感觉到压力源,它就会刺激你的交感神经系统。当交感神经系统被激活时,身体会产生肾上腺素,并开始更加努力地工作)”推知,空处陈述肾上腺素上升后人会经历的变化。G项“You may experience these changes like feeling more sweaty or having a pounding chest(你可能会经历这些变化,比如感觉出汗更多或胸部砰砰作响)”可知,这是描述肾上腺素对身体的影响,符合文意。故选G项。
根据前文“One way to reduce the negative impact of stress is to experience positive emotions. Recalling can help you get a new view on your experiences, which helps you see your life in a more balanced way.(减少压力负面影响的一种方法是体验积极的情绪。回忆可以帮助你对你的经历有一个新的看法,这有助于你以一种更平衡的方式看待你的生活)”可知,本段主要讲述了用回忆减少压力负面影响,所以D项“Recall good times using reminders such as photographs(用照片之类的东西来回忆美好时光)”符合本段主题,是方法的具体使用,其中recall为同词复现。故选D项。
【19题详解】
分析设空,位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“Before going to bed, try to vividly imagine four positive events that could happen to you the next day. They might be as simple as receiving a text from someone you care about. Then as soon as you are ready, go to bed. This technique will help you get a good night’s sleep-sleep is important for helping you to recover from burnout.(睡觉前,试着生动地想象第二天可能发生在你身上的四件积极的事情。它们可能就像收到你关心的人的短信一样简单。一旦你准备好了,就去睡觉。这个技巧会帮助你睡个好觉——睡眠对帮助你从疲劳中恢复很重要)”可知,本段主要讲述了通过睡觉来减少压力,所以C项“The other way is to get a good night’s sleep(另一种方法是晚上睡个好觉)”符合本段主题,是本段的中心句。故选C项。
【20题详解】
分析设空,空后是逗号,所以空处应是从句,答案在A,C中,根据后文“remembering why we choose to celebrate with friends and family can help us overcome any stress and burnout that we may now be experiencing.(记住我们为什么选择与朋友和家人一起庆祝可以帮助我们克服我们现在可能经历的任何压力和倦怠)”可知,下文陈述了假期与家人和朋友庆祝对我们的重要意义。E项“Although holidays can certainly be a stressful time for many of us(虽然假期对我们中的许多人来说肯定是一个充满压力的时刻)”和后文构成转折关系,符合文意。故选E项。

It’s never too late to mend
Once upon a time, there was a man who kept several sheep. One morning, he found one of his sheep was missing. After checking the pen carefully, he discovered a hole in the wall of the pen. It turned out that a wolf had broken into the pen and stolen his sheep.
His neighbor advised, “You should fix the pen and cover the hole right away.” But he rejected, “The sheep has already lost. It’s no use fixing it now.” However, the next morning, he found another sheep missing. The wolf stole the sheep through the hole again!
He regretted not taking the neighbor’s advice and began to cover the hole immediately. From then on, no more sheep was stolen.
Good morning, everyone. I’m Li Hua

Thank you for listening!
One possible version:
Good morning, everyone. I’m Li Hua. It’s an honor to share with you a moral lesson I learned from a Chinese fable named “It’s never too late to mend”.
A man had a sheep stolen due to a hole of the pen. But he refused his neighbor’s advice to fix it, thinking it’s no use doing it after losing his sheep. However, the next day witnessed the tragedy again. Only then did he realize it made sense to fix the pen upon his discovery.
Actually, mistakes are unavoidable. No matter how many mistakes we’ve made, we always have the choice to make it better. It is never too late to turn around and make positive changes.
