W: Sorry, currently we have only business class and second class available.
M: Then I’ll go for the business class. Do you serve food on the train?
W: Yes. There is a dining car serving meals and snacks at all times. We do provide free water and coffee for all of our passengers.
    M: Great! I’ll take it.
W: Here you are sir. Your train leaves from platform number nine at nine. Remember to be here at least thirty minutes before your scheduled departure time!
M: I understand. Thank you very much!
    W: Have a great trip.
    Text 9
W: Tony, I’m a new comer here. What do you think I should know before starting the work?
M: As a new member, you must attend trainings in the first few weekends.
W: To be honest, I don’t think it is fair.
    M: But you have to.
W: Ok, then. What are the trainings for? To get us familiar with the culture here or to learn skills?
M: Both, to some degree. But they mainly aim to encourage teamwork.
W: How about the salary? Actually, I’m more interested in this.
M: All new members are likely to ask the same question. Our company has a strict salary standard. Benefits depend upon the employee’s performance. After you’ve been here for a year, you qualify for a one-week vacation. For two years, an increase in salary as well as a chance to be promoted.
W: Wow, thank you for telling me. Anything else I should know?
M: Remember to report work to the manager every month.
W: I’ve got it. Thank you.

When most of us think about taking a language course, we’re picturing a classroom full of shaky desks and chalkboard dust, plus a high school fee. But if you are not sure about stepping back into the classroom or paying high fees, why not try a language learning app — FluentU.
Some features set FluentU apart from the others. The first is the wide range of available contents: movies, news, documentaries, cartoons, music videos or whatever else you like to watch.
The second is that it uses real-world videos. Instead of producing some slowly-spoken and clearly-pronounced videos for learners, FluentU directs you to video content in real-world circumstances — the way that native speakers actually use them.
The best feature is that the app allows users to get some of the specific numbers of lessons for free, so beginners can learn a basic language using this app for free.
FluentU is sure to leave you with nothing but effective and efficient learning. It’s already hand-picked the best videos for you and organized them by level and topic. All you have to do is choose any video that interests you to get started!

M: Jane, can you meet us for dinner this Friday? There’s a great new Indian restaurant that just opened.
W: I actually have dinner plans with my high school classmates this Friday. What about this Sunday?
M: I will have to watch my sister’s dog while she’s out of town.
    Text 2
M: My secretary made a reservation for me the 14th of January.
    W: For how many nights?
M: Six. But if my wife comes, I’ll stay for two more nights.
    Text 3
W: Hello, sir. I need to see your passports, please. What is your purpose of entering the country?
M: I’m just driving the family to see their aunt, who lives in Seattle. We’ll be coming back on Sunday night.
    Text 4
W: Would it be OK to have the meeting at 11 o’clock on Tuesday morning?
M: That’s fine, but it has to be finished by 1:00 because I have a flight to catch at 3:00.
    W: OK, got it.
    Text 5
W: Mr. Black is very good at Spanish and now he is beginning to study French.
M: Yeah. And he also knows something of Chinese.
    Text 6
M: Hello. Can I help you?
W: I hope so. I was sitting in that restaurant over there and, when I’d finished my meal, I forgot to pick up my backpack. Has anyone handed it in as lost property?
M: What does it look like?
W: It’s quite small. And it’s made of plastic. It’s not leather or anything.
M: Has it got a pattern on it?
W: No. It’s gray, with a handkerchief tied to it.
M: Well, you’re in luck. This one was handed in by the restaurant staff ten minutes ago.
    Text 7
    W: Are you OK, John?
M: Yeah, just clearing out this cupboard, Emily. It’s full of old junk.
W: Ooh, what a lot of stuff. Is that a ... gorilla arm?
M: Yes! Ah... that was a fun project.
    W: Interesting.
M: Ooh, this is the microphone I recorded my first masterpiece with. Bit dusty. I wonder if it still works. Or maybe I should sell it. Who would buy it?
W: Why don’t you freecycle it?
M: Oh, that’s a good idea. I can exchange a microphone for a bicycle, right?
W: No. You give it away. You give it to someone for free. It’s another way of recycling. There are websites that help match you to people who want these things.
M: Free... recycle. Freecycle. Yes, I like the idea. But I would like a free bicycle even more.
    Text 8
M: Helen, what do you think of this advertisement in today’s newspaper?
W: Didn’t I tell you? It was also in last week’s newspaper. I saw it there and so I inquired by email. I had a phone call today from the company and I’ve got an interview tomorrow.
M: That’s exciting. Do you think you’ve got the job?
W: Well, they seemed very eager on the phone. I do think that they’ll probably offer me the job.
M: So, you’re going to California?
W: I didn’t say that. It would be hard work looking after two boys and three girls, even though living in California would probably be great fun. I may be offered the job, but I won’t take the job unless I can get a proper salary.
    Text 9
W: Mr. Jones, thanks for making time for me today. Many of the students are worried about how close the class trip is to final exams. As class monitor, they asked me to speak with you to work out a new plan that we can follow.
M: Ella, your concerns are reasonable. But all the teachers have met to talk about the trip and exams. We all agree that there is a large amount of work for students to do. However, we are confident that as long as you all work together with everyone doing their part, there will be enough time.
W: But Mr. Jones, they’re worried about having to do the group research project and to study for exams in such a short time.
M: Remember last term when half of your classmates waited until the last week to start the International Studies research paper? What a disaster? I imagine they remember it as well. You know we always talk about how good habits lead to success. Here is another chance to practice that. There will be no changes to schedule.
W: Yes, I remember that. I’ll encourage them to get started early and work together.
    Text 10
M: Hi, fellow workers. I have some surprising news to report. I have just come from the house agency and it seems that the owner of this place has decided not to continue to rent the house after November, sorry, I’m wrong, after December of this year. Unfortunately, that means that Burnside Cafe will have to move. Now I know that we have been at this place for over 20 years and the move will certainly raise a number of challenges. First, I’m going to have to find a suitable new place. Of course I’ll be looking to keep us in the same area, hopefully somewhere right here in this neighborhood. I hope I can get that done by September. After finding a suitable place, the move itself will also be a headache. There are so many things that could go wrong. But all those difficulties can be overcome. Although we’ll face some tough times over the next few months, I know I can look forward to everyone’s complete cooperation. With your help, Burnside Cafe can reopen better than ever.
