Smartphones have truly been a wonderful invention, getting us all closer to one another than ever before. And yet, people seem to pay more attention to the phone in their hands than the person sitting in front of them. As a result, some restaurants have taken steps to restrict the use of smartphones during a meal.
Tim Love, a cook who owns several restaurants in the US, believes it’s time for people to enjoy a smartphone-free dinner. His Italian restaurant, Caterina’s, requires customers to pack their phones away into small bags when they sit down to eat. “We give each guest a small bag to put his/her phone in and the bag stays with the guest the whole dinner,” Tim says. “If some people just have their phones in their pockets, we’re going to kindly ask them to put their phones in the bag.”
If a customer is expecting a call or is nervous about missing one, the restaurant offers an old-school bright-red landline (固定电话). “If someone really needs to use his phone during dinner, he is welcome to simply walk outside to use it,” Tim adds, “We also offer a service to people who want to take photos of their unforgettable meal. We’re going to send a follow-up email to all the customers the next day, including a photo of everything they ordered. So they can share it online.”
Also, the restaurant wants to keep things super, so men are required to wear jackets. If one forgets, they’ll lend him one at the front door. And even the dinner’s pace is to help people relax. “Caterina’s guests will be treated to a multi-course meal,” Tim says. “It’s slow dining where the whole experience encourages you to slow down. There will be lots of little surprises throughout the meal.”

We take selfies(自拍) when we try on a new hat, play with our pets or when we meet a friend whom we haven’t seen in a while. But does this crazy actually make sense? Is there any scientific explanation for it?
Well, you should probably ask James Kilner, a neuroscientist(神经科学家) at University College London. Through our lifetime we become experts at reading and telling other people’s faces and facial expressions. However, according to Kilner, we have a very poor understanding of our own faces since we have little experience of looking at them—we just feel them most of the time.
This has been proved in some studies in which people were shown photos of themselves and asked to match their facial expressions in the pictures. In most cases, they failed to correctly produce the same facial expressions without being able to see themselves in the mirror, according to BBC.
To further test how we actually sense our own faces, Kilner carried out another study. He showed people two kinds of their own pictures—one had been edited(编辑) to look less beautiful and the one was made more beautiful—and asked them to pick the version which they thought looked most like them. Kilner found that most people chose the more beautiful picture. This suggests that we usually think of ourselves as better-looking than we actually are.
But what does it say about selfies? Well, isn’t that clear? Selfies give us the power to create a photo—by taking it from different angles(角度), with different poses, using filters(滤镜) and so on—that better matches our expectations with our actual faces.
“You suddenly have control in a way that you don’t have in the real world.” Kilner told the Canada-based CTA News. “Selfies allow you to keep taking pictures until you manage to take one you’re happy with”, he explained.
27.How does the writer lead in the topic “selfie” in Paragraph 1?
A.By asking questions. B.By comparing facts.
C.By giving examples. D.By explaining reasons.
28.We can learn from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3 that people are ________.
A.proud of the photos of their own
B.able to remember their own faces easily
C.more interested in their faces in the mirror
D.good at understanding others by their faces
29.According to Kilner, taking selfies ________.
A.helps people to improve their skills of taking photos
B.meets people’s needs to know their own faces better
C.makes people possible to reach their expectation
D.offers people a way to control the world
30.Which might be the best title of the passage?
A.What Is the Selfies B.Why Do You Take Selfies
C.How Can We Take Selfies D.Who Likes Taking Selfies

Habits of good English language learners
Learning English, or any language, can be challenging but rewarding(有回报的). To be a good learner, you need to put in a lot of effort, but you also need to develop the right habits. Here are four habits that may help you become a successful English learner.
1 The biggest problem most people face in learning a new language is their own fear. They worry that they won’t say things correctly, so they don’t talk at all. Don’t do that. The fastest way to learn something is to do it—again and again until you learn it. Don’t let a little fear stop you from getting what you want.
Let English around you. Take notes in English, put English books around your room, watch English news, movies and television programs and listen to English music. 2 Then you will begin “thinking in English”.
Practice as often as possible. 3 The best way to learn any language is to practice every day. By studying things like grammar and vocabulary can help you really improve your knowledge of any language.
4 Finally, many people think that exercises and tests aren’t much fun. However, by doing exercises and taking tests, you can really improve your English. If you test yourself, you will know how much you are progressing.
    A.Speak without fear.
    B.Practice makes perfect.

    Dear sir,
Our school had some activities on Earth Day last weekend. On the morning of that day, most of students walked or rode bikes to school. Then we listened to a speech about Earth Day so that we knew better about the earth and Earth Day. Also, we planted some trees in our school to make it greener. At last, we picked up the rubbish around our school, like plastic bags, empty bottles and so on.
I think it was a meaningful day. The earth is our home and everyone is supposed to save it. If everyone plays a part in protecting the earth, the earth will be more beautiful.
    Yours sincerely,
    Li Hua
