I don't think I can recall a time when I wasn't aware of the beauty of the ocean. Growing up in Australia, I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side. The first time I went to Halfmoon Bay, I suddenly had the feeling of not being able to feel the ground with my feet anymore.
For my 10th birthday, my sister and I were taken out to the Great Barrier Reef. There were fish in different colors, caves and layers of coral. They made such an impression on me. When I learned that only one percent of Australia's Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked. Australian marine(海洋的)life is particularly important because the reefs have more marine species than any other country on earth. But sadly, only 45% of the world's reefs are considered healthy.
This statistic is depressing, so it's important for us to do everything to protect them. The hope that the Coral Sea remains a complete ecosystem has led me to take action. I've become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean's species will all have a safe place forever.
Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be part of the movement. Angus also shares many beautiful childhood memories of the ocean as a young boy, who grew up sailing, admiring the beauty of the ocean, and trying to find the secrets of ocean species.
    24. What can we learn about the author from the underlined sentence in Para. 1?
    A. He seldom went surfing at the sea.
    B. He never went back to his hometown.
    C. He forgot his experiences about the ocean.
    D. He had a wonderful impression of Halfmoon Bay.
    25. What is Australian marine life like according to the second paragraph?
    A. It may be faced with danger.
    B. It depends on reefs for living greatly.
    C. It is escaping from the Coral Sea gradually.
    D. It is protected better than that in other oceans.
    26. What's the purpose of The Protect Our Coral Sea activity?
    A. It is intended to contribute to a complete ecosystem.
    B. It is intended to set up a large nature reserve for reefs.
    C. It is intended to prevent more marine species being endangered.
    D. It is intended to raise more teenagers' environmental awareness.
    27. Why do Angus and the author create a little video?
    A. To share their childhood experiences about the ocean.
    B. To inspire more people to explore the secret of the ocean.
    C. To bring back to people their memory of ocean species.
    D. To urge more people to take action to protect the marine species.
    C
Last week, my younger brother visited me for five days. To ensure I could spend as much time with him as possible, I worked extra hard during the weekend before he arrived.
It amazed me how much I could accomplish when I had a strong motivation to be efficient. During the week, I put in a couple of hours in the mornings to handle pressing issues and then spent the afternoons and evenings going out with him. Once again, I was surprised to realize just how much free time was available to me if I consciously chose to be more effective while working.
This made me think of Parkinson's Law: Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.
I realized then that I'd given myself more time than necessary for work, and as a result, I ended up spending a lot of time delaying needlessly and entertaining myself online.
How might things change for me, I wondered, if I chose to commit to more social and recreational activities, made them priorities and was motivated to finish work quicker?
I realize not everyone has flexible work schedules, but I believe we could all create more time for ourselves if we were motivated to cut out the choices that don't match our strongest desires and intentions. Maybe it's being absent-minded in front of the TV or searching the web.
I believe what English musician John Lennon said is true: Time that you enjoyed wasting was not wasted. 1 don't think there's anything wrong with using technology if we've consciously chosen to do it.
However, we owe it to ourselves to get out in the world and explore different possibilities — to be playful, curious, engaged and just to be.
Perhaps it would be easier to do that if we asked ourselves: How can I be more effective? Can I minimize what I am currently doing? How can I start using the time I've created in a way that will excite and inspire me?
    28. How did the author feel when she finished her work in advance?
    A. Amazed. B. Guilty. C. Stressed. D. Exhausted.
    29. What made the author think of Parkinson's Law?
    A. Her working habit
    B. Her workload during that time
    C. The change in her work efficiency
    D. The time spent with her younger brother
    30. What does the author advise us to do to make more time for ourselves?
    A. Commit to more social activities.
    B. Create a tight work schedule for ourselves.
    C. Don't waste time on technology for any reason.
    D. Focus on the most important tasks, and ignore anything unimportant.
    31. What is the author's main purpose in writing this article?
    A. To explain what Parkinson's Law is.
    B. To reflect on better time management.
    C. To introduce how to balance work and life.
    D. To show the importance of accompanying family members.
    D
After the Covid-19 began early in 2020, Traverse and his colleagues turned their attention toward new ways to make small interactions(互动)between potentially sick patients and health care workers. To that end, they worked with Boston Dynamics to create a mobile robot that could interact with patients as they waited in the emergency department. The robots were equipped with sensors(传感器)that allowed them to measure signs of life, including skin temperature, breathing rate and pulse rate. The robots also carried an iPad for remote video communication with a health care provider.
This kind of robot could reduce health care workers' risk of exposure to Covid-19 and help to conserve the personal protective equipment that was needed for each interaction. However, the question still remained whether patients would accept this type of interaction.
In Traverso's study they were trying to tide that up and understand if the population accepted a solution like this one. The researchers first conducted a nationwide survey of about 1,000 people. They asked questions regarding the acceptability of robots in health care, including whether people would be comfortable with robots performing not only classification but also other tasks such as planting a tube, or turning a patient over in bed. On average, the subjects stated that they were open to these types of interactions.
The researchers then tested one of their robots in the emergency department at Brigham and Women's Hospital last spring, when Covid-19 cases were flooding in Massachusetts Fifty-one patients were approached in the waiting room and asked if they would be willing to participate in the study, and 41 agreed. These patients were interviewed about their symptoms via video connection, using an iPad carried by a dog-like robot developed by Boston Dynamics. More than 90 percent of the participants reported that they were satisfied with the robotic system.
“For the purposes of gal Bering quick classification information, the patients found the experience to be similar to what they would have experienced talking to a person,” Traverso says.
    32. What can the robots Traverse and his colleagues created do?
    A. Carry an iPad for the patients. B. Check the breathing rate.
    C. Guard the emergency department. D. Find new ways to cure patients.
    33. Why does the author write the second paragraph?
    A. To summarize the previous paragraph.
    B. To add some background information.
    C. To introduce a new topic for discussion.
    D. To provide some advice for the readers
    34. How does the author support the topic of the text?
    A. By stating opinions. B. By listing categories.
    C. By making comparisons. D. By analyzing research data.
    35. What can be a suitable tittle for the text?
    A. The Covid-19 Patients Favor Robots
    B. The Robotic Doctor Can See You Now
    C. Health Care Workers Are Unavailable
    D. Robot Development Needs Human Support

Why Do Adults Love Animated Movies?
You go home from work. You are tired, and want to sit in front of the TV, watching something fun. Your children want the same. What is better than an animated film?
Both children and most adults love animation. Of course, there are animated movies that are directed specially to adults. 36 So, why do adults like cartoons so much?
    They have well-written characters
There are plenty of reasons. First and foremost, a lot of them are really good. 37 Screenwriters, designers, programmers and musicians are all working together to bring the best outcome to the big screen. And usually, they succeed.
Animated films have well-written characters facing complicated situations. Sometimes the scripts are even better than those in adult films. So, it comes as no surprise that animated films appeal to grown-ups as well.
    38
Remember the time when you were a child and used to sit in front of the TV enjoying cartoons? Animated films bring out that specific feeling of our childhood. Moreover, they reveal(揭示)our inner child. By watching an animated movie, we forget the monotony(单调乏味)of everyday life and leave our problems behind.
    We love heroes
Almost every cartoon has something to do with the journey of a character. A journey towards adulthood, or towards finding oneself, or succeeding in a quest. 39 A hero that overcomes all obstacles trying to find true meaning and happiness in his or her existence? Plenty of times, the characters in animated films are bigger-than-life and that's what we need in order to believe in humans again.
    They are treats for adults
Animated films are made for children, but sometimes filmmakers decide to put something for adults as well: Shrek, for example, has scenes with a sense of humor that is addressed mainly to grown-ups. 40 And it's a really successful practice.
    A. They bring out the child in us.
    B. Anything can happen in childhood.
    C. And who doesn't love a hero like that?
    D. Talents work together in producing animated films.
    E. We applaud those characters because they remind us of ourselves.
    F. And there is also the chance that adults will love a kid's movie more.
    G. It's a treat that aims to help parents enjoy their time in the animated films as well.

    Dear Mr. Li,
I'm terribly sorry to have missed the first lessons this morning. Actually, I got up earlier than usually in the morning as I had set my alarm clock for 6:00 am instead of 7:00 am. However, while I was about to set off, I find my bicycle's front tire flat. I wanted to take bus or taxi to school, but I didn't have any money with me. I had to search for a place along the empty street to get my bicycle repairing. Unluckily, there were not any bicycle repair shops were open in the early morning. So I had to walk to school, carrying my bicycle all the way. That's the reason that I was late for school.
Please don't worry with my lesson, Mr. Li. I'll make up for them and if necessary, I'll turn to teachers for help.
    Yours sincerely,

根据前文“These four new kids' books serve as guides for a variety of difficulties and as important reminders that we have a choice in how we react to such trials.(这四本新的儿童读物可以作为克服各种困难的指南,并作为重要的提醒,我们可以选择如何应对such trials)”可知,这四本书主要是教我们如何应对困难,因此“such trials”为困难,考验。故选C项。
根据Stef Soto,Taco Queen的简介可知,Stef Soto因为自己的家庭而感到尴尬,也厌倦了被人称为“taco queen”;根据“But when the family business is threatened, she becomes one of its biggest protectors and learns to accept heridentity.(但当家族企业受到威胁时,她成了最大的保护者之一,并学会接受自己的身份)”可知,后来她开始接受自己的身份,适应新的环境;而题中因为搬家到文化差异大的地方,肯定不能马上适应环境,故读Stef Soto, Taco Queen能帮助孩子克服困难,适应环境。故选B项。
根据第一段“These four new kids' books serve as guides for a variety of difficulties and as important reminders that we have a choice in how we react to such trials.(这四本新的儿童读物可以作为克服各种困难的指南,并作为重要的提醒,我们可以选择如何应对这样的尝试)”以及下文四本书的简介可知,作者写这篇文章的目的是向我们介绍一些新出版的儿童读物。
根据第一段中的“I don't think I can recall a time when I wasn't aware of the beauty of the ocean.(我想不起我有没有过意识到大海的美的时候)和I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side.(我很幸运大海就在我的身边)”可知,作者认为大海很美,自己很幸运能经常看到海,故划线句应是对半月湾的赞美。
根据第二段“When I learned that only 1 percent of Australian's Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked.(当我听说仅仅1%的澳大利亚珊瑚海受到保护时,我很震惊)”可知,只有1%的澳大利亚珊瑚海受到保护,故推断澳大利亚的海洋生物的生命可能面临危险。故选A。
根据第三段“I've become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean's species will all have a safe place forever.(我已经加入保护我们珊瑚海的活动,它的目标是创造世界上最大的海洋公园。在这里,海洋生物将永远有一个安全的地方)”可推知,这项活动的目的是创造一个为海洋生物提供永久安全的地方,阻止更多的海洋物种灭绝。故选C。
27.细节理解题。根据第四段“Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be apart of the movement.(我和Angus一起拍摄了一个小视频。我们希望激励更多的人成为这个运动的一员)”可知,拍摄视频是为了激励人们去采取行动保护海洋生物。故选D。
    【C】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。文中作者结合自身经历,意识到当自己强烈渴望提高效率时,往往可以在很短的时间内完成许多事情,从而引发了作者对于如何更有效地进行时间管理的反思。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段“It amazed me how much I could accomplish when I had a strong motivation to be efficient.(当我有强烈的动力去提高效率的时候,我能完成多少事情让我感到惊讶)”以及第三段中“Once again, I was surprised to realize just how much free time was available to me if I consciously chose to be more effective while working.(我再一次惊讶地意识到,如果我有意识地选择在工作时更有效率,那我能有更多空闲时间)”可知,作者对于自己能在更短的时间内完成工作感到惊奇,故选A。
根据第三段中“Once again, I was surprised to realize just how much free time was available to me if I consciously chose to be more effective while working.(我再一次惊讶地意识到,如果我有意识地选择在工作时更有效率,那我能有更多空闲时间)”以及第四段“This made me think of Parkinson's Law: Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.(这让我想到了帕金森氏定律:工作的扩展是为了填满完成工作所需的时间)”可知,是作者工作效率的变化让她想到了帕金森定律。故选C。
根据倒数第四段中“I realize not everyone has flexible work schedules, but I believe we could all create more time for ourselves if we were motivated to cut out the choices that don't match our strongest desires and intentions.(我知道不是每个人都有灵活的工作时间,但我相信,如果我们有动力放弃那些不符合我们最强烈愿望和意图的选择,我们都可以为自己创造更多的时间可知,作者建议我们专注于最重要的任务,忽略不重要的事情,来为自己腾出更多的时间。故选D。
根据最后一段“Perhaps it would be easier to do that if we asked ourselves: How can I be more effective? Can I minimize what I am currently doing? How can I start using the time I've created in a way that will excite and inspire me?(也许,如果我们扣心自问:我怎样才能更有效率?
根据第一段“The robots were equipped with sensors that allow them to measure signs of life”(这些机器人配备了传感器,可以测量生命迹象。)
根据文章第二段“However, the question still remained whether patients would accept this type of interaction.”(然而,问接受程度的讨论题仍然是患者是否会接受这种类型的互动。)
根据文章第三段“On average, the subjects stated that they were open to these types of interactions”(平均而言,研究对象表示他们对这些类型的互动持开放态度)及第五段“ More than 9 percent of the participants reported that they were satisfied with the robotic system.”(超过9%的参与者表示他们对机器人系统感到满意。) 故选A项。

Screenwriters, designers, programmers and musicians are all working together to bring the best outcome to the big screen. And usually, they succeed.
Remember the time when you were a child and used to sit in front of the TV enjoying cartoons? Animated films bring out that specific feeling of our childhood. Moreover, they reveal our inner child. By watching an animated movie, we forget the monotony of everyday life and leave our problems behind.
A hero that overcomes all obstacles trying to find true meaning and happiness in his or her existence? Plenty of times, the characters in animated films are bigger-than-life and that's what we need in order to believe in humans again.
Animated films are made for children, but sometimes filmmakers decide to put something for adults as well: Shrek, for example, has scenes with a sense of humor that is addressed mainly to grown-ups.
