Jason, our son, was born with cerebral palsy (脑瘫). We often comforted him as he faced many challenges in his early years. It was heartbreaking to see him regularly chosen last for baseball, a happy child and well liked by his peers throughout elementary school. His most difficult time came when he began high school.
One afternoon, Jason returned home in tears. He threw his bag on the floor and shouted: "I'm never going to school again!>, He was covered with food that other kids had thrown at him on the school bus on the way home. Jason told us what had happened.
Jason had signed up for the school running team. That day, a few older students made fun of his performance on the track and made him the target of their food fight. I called the principal about Jason5s experience. Jason stayed on the team, even though the harassment(骚扰) continued.
One day we had snow and freezing rain. As the other kids exercised in the gym, they noticed one lone runner, Jason, jogging around the snow-covered track.
A few weeks later, Jason said, "Mom, Dad, sit down.", I was ready for the worst. He said that each month, students chose an “athlete of the month”. The coach would list the top athletes, and students voted for the winner. Jason^ name had never been listed. But that day, one of the students said: UI would like to nominate Jason for ‘athlete of the month’. He works harder than any of us.” Tears formed in Jason’s eyes as he told us what happened next, "Mom ... Dad ... everyone in the class put their hand up." In tears, we looked on as he proudly displayed his certificate.
Whenever I despair, I think of this story. I remind myself that challenges are not overcome by force, but by patience, determination, and faith.

A new study shows mothers matter all year long and not just on Mother's Day. The emotional, physical and mental energy mothers devote to their children can be never-ending, but children are also sources of great joy and happiness. Investing(投入) in time for parenting and raising relationships is money well spent.[来%*源:中^@教网&]
Mothers have long known that their home workload was just as heavy as paid work. Now, the new study has shown that if they were paid for their parental labours, they would earn as much as $ 172,000 a year. It looked at the range of jobs mothers do, as well as the hours they are working to determine the figure. By analysing the numbers, it found the average mother works 119 hours a week, 40 of which would usually be paid at a standard rate 79 hours as overtime. After questioning 1,000 mothers with children under 18, it found that, on most days, mums started their routine work at 7am and finished at around 11 pm.
To calculate just how much mothers would earn from that labour, it suggested some of the roles that mums could take on, including housekeeper, part4ime lawyer, personal trainer and entertainer. Being a part-time lawyer, at £48.98 an hour, would prove to be the most profitable of the amum jobs" , with psychologist(心理学家)a close second.[www.*z@z&step.~co^m]
It also asked mothers about the challenges they face, with 80 percent making emotional demand as the hardest thing about motherhood. Over a third of mums felt they needed more training and around half said they missed going out with friends.,
