Every day when I enter the classroom, I will take a look at the wall beside my seat. You will find nothing special about this old wall if you just look at it. But for the students in my class, it is a special wall. Take a good look at it, and you will get to know the real feelings and thoughts of us, the 9th graders.
In the middle of the wall there is a big “VICTORY”. It was written in pencil. I guess it must have been written by someone who got a good mark in an exam.
A little higher above the formulas (公式), there is a poem. It only has two sentences. It reads: All those sweet memories have disappeared. Like tears dropping in the heavy rain.
Oh! It must have been written at the end of the last semester (学期) in middle school. Classmates had to leave school and good friends had to part. What a sad poem!
If you “explore” the wall more carefully, you will find many other interesting things, like a crying face, or a happy face, and other patterns (图案). There are still some patterns and letters that I can’t understand, but they all show the feelings of the students who drew them.
For years, the wall has witnessed (目睹) all the things that have happened in the classroom. I don’t know how it will be next year, two years from now, or even ten years from now. But I hope more smiling faces will be drawn on it.
    根据短文内容,判断下列各句正(T)误(F)。
36.There are few letters and pictures on the wall.
37.The writer can understand the patterns on the wall.
38.There is a big “VICTORY” in the center of the wall.
39.The patterns and letters on the wall show the feelings of the students who drew them.
40.The writer hopes more smiling faces will be drawn on the wall.

Street dance is an energetic and exciting type of dance. It started with people dancing in the street rather than in studio(练功房).
Break dancing and the Melbourne Shuffle are two examples of street dance. Many of the hip-pop dances are popular street dance. Even rave dancing is a type of street dance. In one’s life, one spends the most time being with oneself. However, one has the least understanding of oneself. When you are successful, you may be very proud. But when you fail, you may lose heart. If you don’t get a better understanding of yourself, you may miss many chances in life and easily get into trouble.
To get a better understanding of yourself is to know about yourself well. You should realize your strong points and weak ones. You may hope for a wonderful future, but be sure not to expect too much because not all dreams can come true. You may be confident enough to meet challenges, but first you should know what to do.
Getting a better understanding of yourself needs self-appreciation. Maybe you think you are a tall tree or just small grass, but you can always have your own way of being there. As soon as you get full confidence in yourself, you are sure to face any trouble.
To get a better understanding of yourself also means taking care of yourself. When you are angry, find a quiet place so that you can control your own temper and not hurt yourself. When you are sad, tell your friends about it to change the mood(情绪)into a good one. When you are tired, get a good sleep till you get relaxed. If you don’t know when and how you should look after yourself, you won’t be able to stay away from illnesses.

I left school 22 years ago. I don’t regret many things about my school days, but there are a few things I wish I’d known then that I know now. So here’s my list of five things I wish I’d learned at school.
59 As a young child, you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. Then you start school where you are usually only rewarded for doing things correctly. So what happens? You stop trying new things in case you get it wrong.
Learn to lose. I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, it’s nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. 60 Learning to lose is one of the life’s most important lessons. If you try your hardest, then you should never be angry with yourself.
Don’t compare with others. I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. 61
Never worry too much. I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear will usually never happen. They are just monsters in your own mind. 62
Spend time on something. When I was young, I often didn’t do things because I thought they’d take too long to finish. I always wanted to write a book. 63 It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year means nothing. If I’d started that when I was 16, I might have written ten more by now. I’m cross with myself for not even trying.
    根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。
A.Try new things as many as possible.
B.But we can’t be winners all the time.
C.I ask myself if I do things as well as I could.
D.It is important to know the reason why we lose sometimes.
E.But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost the enthusiasm (热情).
F.And if they happen, they will most often not be as bad as you expected, so keep your cool.

It was this very morning that Garrone let us know what he is like.

The master had not yet arrived, and four boys were bullying Crossi, the one with red hair who has a dead arm and whose mother sells vegetables. They were hitting him in the face with chestnut shells. And he, sitting on the ground became quite pale, begging them to leave him in peace. But they didn’t stop. They pulled Crossi upon a bench. All at once, Franti jumped upon the bench. Pretending that he was carrying a basket on each arm, he imitated Crossis mother when she used to come to wait for her son at the door. Many began to laugh loudly and Crossi was shaking slightly and turning red with anger.
Suddenly Crossi took hold of an inkstand and threw it at the other’s head with all his strength, but Franti moved aside, and the inkstand hit the master who entered at the moment, full in the breast. All flew to their places and became silent with great fear. The master, quite pale, went to his table, and said in a controlled voice:
    “Who did it?”
    No one replied.
The master cried out once more, raising his voice louder. “Who is it?”
Then Garrone, moved to pity for poor Crossi, stood up and said firmly, “It was I.”
The master looked at him and the confused students, then said in a calm voice. “It was not you.”
And after a moment, he said, “The culprit will not be punished. Let him rise!”
Crossi rose and cried. “They were striking me and insulting me, and I lost my head and threw it.”
“Sit down,” said the master. “Let those who angered him rise.”
Four rose and hung their heads. “You,” said the master, “have bullied an unfortunate companion you’ve hit a weak person who could not protect himself. You’ve done one of the most shameful acts!”
Having said this, the master came down among the benches and went over to Garrone. He put his hand under Garrone’s chin and looked him straight in the eye, and said to him, “You are a noble soul.”
Garrone caught the chance to murmur some words in the car of the master. “That’s a good idea, Garrone. You’re not only noble.” said the master, then turning towards the four boys, “Boys, I can forgive you, but…”
94.What finally made Crossi throw an inkstand?
A.The boys pulled Crossi upon a bench
B.Franti imitated the way Crossi’s mother carried her basket.
C.The boys hit Crossi in the face hard with some chestnut shells.

A few weeks ago a school inspector observed my class. I gave him my chair and he went to the back of the classroom. I was really nervous but my students were great: they weren’t noisy, they paid attention, they didn’t shout and they put their hands up to ask questions. After a while I asked them to do some pair work and I sat down. Unfortunately, I forgot my chair wasn’t in its usual place and I fell on the floor!

At the beginning of my ninth grade, I couldn’t understand English. Because English teachers talked to us in English, I was confused every time I had an English class and dared not look up. Slowly, I began to hate English classes. Later, my friend Mary knew that and she spent more than half an hour every day helping me learn English. Every time she spoke to me, she would use English. With her encouragement, I slowly opened my mouth to speak English and understood what she said. After a period of time, I could finally understand the teacher in class and gradually recovered my confidence in English. I am very grateful to her.
We may meet many people and things in need of help in our life. We should take the initiative to give a helping hand, because we will become very happy to help others.
