Where To Go On Spring Break, Based On Your Zodiac Sign (星座)
Spring break is just around the corner. It's time to get your travel plans in order. Here is a simple guide that tells you exactly where to go on spring break this year, all based on your zodiac sign.
Pisces, You Love To Be By The Water
Go to Pisces—the water! You can simply sit, relax, and enjoy the salty air and some delicious Mediterranean food. Elafonisos, an island off the coast of Greece with unbelievable beaches, is your ideal destination. The population is small, but it gets very crowded during the summer months, so spring is your best opportunity to take it all in.
Taurus, Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico Will Be Your Jam
Yes, Truth or Consequences is the real name of this ridiculously affordable spa town.
Indulge in your love of all things luxury by simply spending a few days being pampered. Rooms at Blackstone Hot Springs begin at a very reasonable $ 85 a night. That's relaxing in and of itself.
Gemini, Nairobi Literally Has It All
Gemini, when it comes to planning a trip, you often have a difficult time choosing between a city and some wildlife. Well, if you head to capital city Nairobi, Kenya, you won't have to decide. Along with a rich nightlife, you can head to Nairobi National Park, a breeding ground for black rhinos that also happens to be known as Africa's safari capital.
Plan Your Way To Paris, Virgo
You run a tight ship, Virgo, but the gorgeous city of Paris will have enough history and art to keep you walking and shopping until your heart's content. Sit back and delight in the delectable cuisine for which “the city of lights” is known.
Enjoy your trips, my friends!

Two weeks ago, I had an amazing trip to my friend's house in Serawai. Serawai is the name of a sub-district in Sintang Regency, Indonesia.
At that time, I was warmly welcomed by peaceful green yard. My trip was full of unforgettable moments: great people, delicious food, new cultures. However, what left a remarkable impression on me was meeting up with my friend's dad, Fx. Ngawan. He is now working as an education supervisor in Sintang Regency.
At our first encounter, he looks like a typical Dayaknese man with dark skin. As he mentioned that he used to be an English teacher, we discovered we were a match! I am an English teacher myself. More importantly, he is a language enthusiast and a hyperpolyglot(超级多语者). During the talk, we often switched from one language to the other such as Indonesian, English, Javanese to Ahe. He is now fluent in at least 15 languages and most of them are local languages.
When he was assigned to be a teacher and education supervisor, he had to go all the way rom Serawai sub-district to Sintang Regency by motorcycle, riding about 170 km by motorcycle. The trip can take six hours if the day is bright and sunny. However, it is not uncommon for him to spend three to seven days for the journey if the raining season comes. Therefore, he has to stop at some villages if he can't continue the trip and meet up with people with so many different languages along the way. So, whenever he stops in a particular village, he learns a different language. For him, learning languages helps him to connect with people.
In our last talk, he highlighted(强调) the importance of learning languages. He hopes hat the younger generation in Indonesia start realizing that language is the gate to open up so many opportunities. Local languages are facing disappearance because more people are leaving it behind. When people stop speaking the languages, the knowledge and culture from that language will also disappear.
4.What do the author and Ngawan have in common?
A.Being Typical Dayaknese people. B.Being a hyperpolyglot.
C.Being English teachers. D.Mastering several languages.
5.How was Ngawan's motorcycle trip?
A.Difficult. B.Instructive.
C.Exciting. D.Interesting.
6.What benefit did Ngawan get in his long trip?
A.He got enough rest. B.He learned some languages.
C.He did much exercise. D.He made many friends.
7.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Learning languages isn't an easy job.
B.Young people don't grasp opportunities.
C.Local languages are being more important.
D.Languages and culture are closely related.
In 1938, Soichiro Honda started a little workshop, developing the concept of the piston ring (活塞环).
His plan was to sell the idea to Toyota. He labored night and day. Finally, came the day he completed his piston ring and was able to take a working sample to Toyota, only to be told that the rings did not meet their standards!
Rather than focus on his failure, he continued working towards his goal. Then, after two more years of struggle and redesign, he won a contract with Toyota.
By now, the Japanese government was gearing up for war! With the contract in hand, Soichiro Honda needed to build a factory to supply Toyota, but building materials were in short supply. He invented a new concrete-making process that enabled him to build the factory.
With the factory now built, he was ready for production, but the factory was bombed twice and steel became unavailable, too. He started collecting gasoline cans discarded by US fighters—“Gifts from President Truman,” he called them, which became the new raw materials for his rebuilt manufacturing process.
After the war, an extreme gasoline shortage forced people to walk or use bicycles. Honda built a tiny engine and attached it to his bicycle. His neighbors wanted one, and although he tried, materials could not be found and he was unable to supply the demand.
Soichiro Honda wrote to 18, 000 bicycle shop owners and, in an inspiring letter, asked them to help him revitalize (复兴) Japan. 5,000 responded and advanced him what little money they could to build his tiny bicycle engines. The small engine “The Super Cub” became a reality and was a success. With success in Japan, Honda began exporting his bicycle engines to Europe and America.
In the 1970s there was another gas shortage, this time in America and automotive fashion turned to small cars. Honda was quick to pick up on the trend. Experts now in small engine design, the company started making tiny cars, and rode another wave of success.
Today, Honda Corporation employs over 100, 000 people in the USA and Japan, and is one of the world’s largest automobile companies. Honda succeeded because one man made a truly committed decision, acted upon it, and made adjustments on a continuous basis. Failure was simply not considered a possibility.
8.Which is the major obstacle that Soichiro Honda often met with on his way to success?
A.A lack of financial assistance. B.A shortage of raw materials.
C.Toyota’s breaking contracts. D.High standards of customer care.
9.What is the “Gifts from President Truman” according to Soichiro Honda?
A.US fighters. B.Steel products.
C.Gasoline cans. D.American companies.
10.Which of the following words best describe Soichiro Honda?
A.Stubborn and down-to-earth. B.Optimistic and organized.
C.Ambitious and broad-minded. D.Determined and persistent.
11.What can we learn from Soichiro Honda’s story?
A.Success is 99% failure. B.Every cloud has a silver lining.

Working at a desk all day may not be as bad for your health as sitting in front of a television after work. That is a finding of a new study done in the United States.
Jeanette Garcia, a researcher at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, led the study.
“We’ve been hearing more and more about how sitting is the new smoking. Previous evidence suggests a relationship between health problems and time spent sitting. As long as you reduce any type of sitting, then that’s helpful in improving health,” she said.
“This study, however, suggests that this may not be the case, and that we should focus more on leisure time sitting, mainly television viewing time, rather than sitting, in general,” she added.
The study followed close to 3, 600 African-American adults. Almost one-third of them watched TV for more than four hours a day. A little more than one-third of the subjects spent between two and four hours a day sitting in front of the TV. The remaining third watched TV for less than two hours a day.
Researchers followed the group for an average of 8.4 years. During the study, 205 of the subjects died and 129 others suffered a heart attack or stroke. Compared to people who watched less than two hours of television daily, those who spent more than four hours in front of the TV were 49 percent more likely to die or have a heart attack or stroke.
The study had some limitations, however. Lin Yang is a researcher at the University of Calgary in Canada. She says it is possible that sitting in front of the TV might be worse than sitting at a desk because people snack while they are watching TV. Some people simply stay up too late and do not get enough sleep. Eating treats or lack of sleep could both cause weight gain and increase risk factors for heart disease. These factors could make people more likely to die early, she added.
Arch Mainous, a researcher at the University of Florida in Gainesville, said in an email that it would be a mistake for people with desk jobs to think there is no need to get moving during the work day. Take the stairs rather than the elevator, or take a walk at lunch, Mainous advised. “Leisure time physical activity is definitely beneficial, but walking on some more steps in the workday should also be encouraged.”
12.What can we learn about Jeanette Garcia’s study?
A.Not all forms of sitting are equally bad for health.
B.Reducing time spent sitting is an effective way to improve health.
C.49% of those who spent more than four hours watching TV daily were unhealthy.
D.It’s the first study ever indicating the relationship between health problems and sitting.
13.Which of the following may Lin Yang agree with?
A.Sitting in front of the TV is not that harmful.
B.People may as well avoid doing jobs at a desk.
C.Health risks have nothing to do with TV viewing.
D.Snacks and lack of sleep may be to blame for early death.
14.As Arch Mainous suggested, what should an office worker do?
A.Take the elevator to save time.
B.Participate in more activities.
C.Get moving during the workday.
D.Take a walk to lose weight.
15.What is this text most likely from?
A.A poster. B.A textbook.
C.A guidebook. D.A magazine.
Don’t say “Cheese”, make a V!
V-sign is a common sight in informal, fun photos of people. It’s a gesture that says “I feel happy. Things are okay. Life is good. ” 16
In the West, the V-sign has an association with Winston Churchill. Churchill flashed the sign to stand for “Victory” to boost the confidence and cheerfulness of the British during World War II. This gave us the impressive gesture that is now known all around the world.
In Asia, the V-sign first became popular in Japan in the 1970s and quickly spread to China and South Korea. 17 The first concerns an ice skater named Janet Lynn. Lynn competed at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Japan and was a huge hit with the Japanese viewers. She suffered an embarrassing fall during one of her routines but she remained smiling throughout. 18 Off the rink(溜冰场), Lynn often flashed the V-sign to photographers. It’s thought that Lynn’s popularity at this time sparked the Japanese love of the V-sign.
The second theory was put forward by Japanese entertainment show Downtown DX which discovered that a popular actor named Jun Inoue starred in a series of commercials for Konica cameras, also in 1972. 19 In doing so, it is believed Jun Inoue started the trend of making the V-sign when posing for photographs in Japan.
20 It’s all down to the ice skater who fell on her butt or a 1970s camera commercial. Probably.
A.Do you like to make a V-sign when taking a photo?
B.There are two theories as to why it became so popular.
C.These commercials all featured people making the V-sign.
D.Studies show that Chinese like this gesture more than others.
E.But have you ever wondered why it is popular to make a V-sign?
F.So there you have it, that’s how the whole V-sign thing started in Japan.
G.Thus, her positive spirit made her popular in a country of Olympic fever.

Life is good.
17.根据前文“In Asia, the V-sign first became popular in Japan in the 1970s and quickly spread to China and South Korea. 下文“The first concerns an ice skater named Janet Lynn. Lynn competed at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Japan and was a huge hit with the Japanese viewers. 及第四段中“The second theory was put forward by Japanese entertainment show Downtown DX which discovered that a popular actor named Jun Inoue starred in a series of commercials for Konica cameras, also in 1972.
18.根据前文“She suffered an embarrassing fall during one of her routines but she remained smiling throughout.”(她在一次表演中尴尬地摔倒了,但她始终保持着微笑。)及后文“Off the rink(溜冰场), Lynn often flashed the V-sign to photographers. It’s thought that Lynn’s popularity at this time sparked the Japanese love of the V-sign.”(在溜冰场外,林恩经常对摄影师做“剪刀手”手势。

20.根据上文“In doing so, it is believed Jun Inoue started the trend of making the V-sign when posing for photographs in Japan.”(由此,井上君开创了在日本拍照时做“剪刀手”手势的潮流。)下文“It’s all down to the ice skater who fell on her butt or a 1970s camera commercial.

故填to ensure。
a number of为固定短语,意为“许多”。故填a。
故填be exchanged。
be responsible for... 故填for。
故填what。
51.1. me→mine 2. 在advice前加for 3. give→gives 4. 删除as 5. are→were
6. which→what 7. few→little 8. Spain→Spanish 9. we→they 10. freely→free
故将with前的as删除。
故将are改为were。
故将which改为what。
故将we改为they。
