四、阅读理解(共20小题,计40分)

When looking at a pair of old chopsticks, most people would see nothing but waste. But Felix Böck would see boxes, tables, shelves and so on.
In 2016, Felix Böck, a doctoral student at the University of British Columbia, Canada, found out people threw away about 100,000 pairs of chopsticks every day in Vancouver alone. He felt the need to do something. So he started the company ChopValue in the same year. The company collected used chopsticks from restaurants, schools and shopping centers in Canada and the US and turned them into furniture and other artworks. In 2023, with the rapid growth of the company, Böck employed 40 people. Using his special methods of steam and press machines, he has recycled over 32 million pairs of chopsticks.
Böck takes pride in his work. And he hopes the idea behind ChopValue will help people rethink what they see as waste. "I believe every small action can help," he said, "and I am happy that my business provides a new way for people." Hundreds of restaurants across North America pay a small sum of money to Böck for the recycling of their used chopsticks. Böck doesn't stop there. Do you remember the name of your primary school teacher? I do. She was Mrs. White. I don't remember much about what I learned in her class, but my mother once told me that I used to write a lot. And I would bring back what I wrote and she would look at it and find there were so many mistakes, but no red corrections, and always a star. Sometimes even a "Good" appeared, which would fill my heart with happiness. But it worried my mother.
So one day, my mother went to meet Mrs. White and asked her why she never marked my mistakes. Mrs. White said, "The children are just beginning to get excited about using words, or forming sentences. I don't want to prevent that enthusiasm(热情) with my red pen. Spelling and grammar can wait, but the wonder of words won't."
Maybe she didn't say it exactly like that. What my mother gave me was the general idea of what she could remember. The rest may be added in. I grew up learning to use words with confidence like that. I used to misspell "beautiful" a lot, but I was always brave enough to express my ideas with Mrs. White's encouragement. If Mrs. White had used her red pen more strictly, I wouldn't probably be telling you about this now.
Looking back, I think she must have been a rather special teacher. She always allows the expression flower to bloom(开花) whether it brings joy, wonder, surprise or even worry. In Mrs. White's opinion, to bloom is better than not to bloom. Once a bud(芽) is cut, it will never come out again. I wish more teachers could make decisions as wisely as Mrs. White.
And thanks to Mrs. White, I had no worry about writing what I meant even if I couldn't quite spell it out.
( )51.How did the writer's mother feel when she saw the stars in his writing?
A. Sad. B. Angry.
C. Worried. D. Excited.
( )52.What did Mrs. White do when she checked what students wrote?
A. She marked the right spellings and good sentences.
B. She allowed the students to write wrong words.
C.She drew some stars and flowers beside the good sentences.
D. She pointed out the mistakes in grammar with her red pen.
( )53.What did Mrs. White agree according to Paragraph 4?
A. Writing carefully was more useful to get good grades.
B. Marking good words was more helpful to improve writing.
C. Joy was more important than worry while correcting sentences.
D. Expressing ideas freely was more important than spelling correctly.
( )54.What can we infer(推断) from the text?
A. The writer could have written better if Mrs. White had corrected his mistakes.
B. Mrs. White's special teaching method helped the writer be confident.
C. The writer's mother agreed with Mrs. White all the time.
D.The writer could remember what he learned in Mrs.White's class clearly.
( )55.What's the best title for the text?
A. The Wisest Encouragement
B. The Most Helpful Worry
C. The Most Difficult Choice
D. The Strictest Teaching Method

Boris, a foreign student at Communication University of China, often shares his experiences of Chinese culture on his vlog(视频博客).
In one video, for example, Boris shared how he had learned the Chinese word dongxi. He translated each part separately into "east west". And he introduced one theory(说法) about how dongxi came to mean "things". He told people that all marketplaces in ancient Chinese cities were set up along a single road that ran from east to west. So when you would say qu mai dongxi, you'd be saying, "I'm going to buy things."
Some other videos show his reading Chinese poems and performing kung fu in Chinese traditional costume, which are quite welcome among his 40,000 followers.
"Many of my followers are learning Chinese," Boris said. "But sadly, they know little about Chinese culture and the country."
Like many foreigners, Boris once believed that all Chinese could perform kung fu, flying onto roofs and walking over walls. He thought the country was not that developed. But after he got a scholarship(奖学金) to study in China in 2019, his view changed. "China has entered a new period, but many people's impressions of China are still stuck in the 1970s," Boris said. "That's why I started to shoot videos to share Chinese culture in 2019."
Until now, Boris has posted more than 40 Chinese culture videos online. But making these videos is not easy. Take reading the poem Second Farewell to Cambridge by Xu Zhimo as an example.
"I can understand and read every word in the poem," Boris said. "But to touch readers, I need to read with proper feelings." So he needed to look for much background information and make his feelings suit each part of the poem.
Though shooting these videos takes lots of time, the young man feels proud that his vlog has inspired many people. Boris said that he wanted to continue bridging the differences between two cultures. "This goal may not be achieved easily, but I will spare no effort to do my part."

七、书面表达
One possible version:
We Act, We Improve
As students,it's our duty to study hard. But in my opinion, as good middle school students, we should be independent and honest. At the same time, we should also be hard-working.
To be better students, we have a lot of things to do. First, we're supposed to be friendly to others and behave politely in public. Second, we should develop good habits. Habits play an important role in our life. We'd better develop our interests and the ability to create. Third, we should care more about others and be thankful to all the people who have helped us. Value the time we spend with our family and friends in our daily life. Last but not least, I think we should exercise more to keep healthy.
I hope I can be a really excellent student and make contributions to our country when I grow up. In a word, the more we act, the better we will improve.
