Pre-reading

1.Work on 2a.

Ask Ss to write as many kinds of parties as possible.

Ask a student to show his or her list to the class. Then the others add more items on the basis of the list presented.

Write down all the parties Ss think of on the board.

2. Work on 2b. 

Read the instructions to the class. Give Ss 5 minutes to read the messages. Ask Ss to put a mark in the contents that are unfamiliar to them.5 minutes later, ask a student to answer the question:Why did the people write them?Then lead Ss to read the message. Explain the new words during the procedure. Pay attention to the key words and phrases.

Ss match the reason with each message.

Check the answers.

While-reading

1.Work on 2c.

Make Ss read the messages again quickly. Before that, Ss scan the five questions in 2c.

2. Guide Ss to understand the messages.

3. Check answers in class.

4. Ask Ss to read again and fill in the chart.

5. Call some Ss to read their answers.

1. Work on 2d.

Ask Ss read the invitation first and then complete it with words and phrases from the message on page 37.

Call some Ss to read their answers.

2. Work on 2e.

Read the instructions to the class. Make sure Ss know the task in Activity 2e.

Ss read the 9 questions quickly.

Pair-work. Ask and answer the questions with your partner. As Ss work, move around the room monitoring their work. Offer support as needed.

Ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class.

Give a report according to the answers.

Read one report to others.
