New England holds some special museums. They are devoted largely or entirely to the work of just one person. And they are the artists’ birthplaces or onetime homes. Here are four examples of such museums.
Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum
The name Cyrus E. Dallin (1861-1944) might not be familiar, but several of the artist’s sculptures (雕塑) are, especially those related to Native Americans. A good example is his “Appeal to the Great Spirit” standing in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. Born in Utah, he lived in Arlington for the final four decades of his life. The museum is in the Jefferson Cutter House, an 1830 Greek styled building.
Norman Rockwell Museum
Rockwell (1894-1978) was America’s well-known artist. The museum, founded in 1969, moved into its present location, Robert A.M. Stern-designed building in 1993. Its 998 paintings and drawings are the largest single collection of Rockwell's artworks.
Kids 16 and under: free; adults: $20; the old: at a 10% discount (折扣)
Edward Gorey House
Edward Gorey (1925-2000) was an artist, but he was also an author and clothes designer. Gorey bought this 18th-century house in 1979 and lived there for the rest of his life. Edward Gorey House is also known as the Elephant House. Gorey had respect for animals. The activities of the house, from art education to exhibits, show Gorey's support of animal well-being.
Gibert Stuart Birthplace and Museum
Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828) is responsible for what may well be the most familiar work of any American artist, His drawing of George is the basis of the first president’s portrait (画像) on the dollar. Stuart painted more than a thousand portraits throughout his life.
1. What do we know about Cyrus E. Dallin?
A. He built the Jefferson Cutter House.
B. He lived in Arlington for half a century.
C. He was best known for his Greek styled sculptures.
D. He created famous works related to Native Americans.
2. How much will an old couple pay to enter Norman Rockwell Museum?
A. $36. B. $40. C. $60. D. $72.
3. Where can visitors learn some history of American money?
A. Edward Gorey House. B. Norman Rockwell Museum.
C. Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum. D. Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum.

“I like pop songs better before I actually got a chance to sing hua’er at the age of 19,” said Sa Lina,36, who has since become a famous singer, devoting herself to this traditional art form for almost two decades
Hua’er, which means flower in Chinese, is a Chinese folk song style. It is popular and shared by people of nine ethnic groups in Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiangfor hundreds of years. Also known as a type of “mountain songs”, it was inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity(人类非物质文化遗产)in 2009.

At the age of 27, she was named an inheritor(传承者)of hua’er, becoming the youngest inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage at the time.
“Art should not only be inherited(传承), but also improved. I don’t only want to be a hua’er singer, but also a promoter of this folk music,” she said. A study has found that a lifetime of regular exercise and activity can slow down the aging process (衰老过程). Researchers say that getting older should not necessarily mean becoming more weak or sick. Their research shows that the devotion to a life of movement and exercise may help us live not only longer, but also more healthily.
For their study, the researchers looked at two groups. The first group was made up of 125 non-professional cyclists (骑行者) between the ages of 55 to 79.This group included 84 healthy men and 41 healthy women. This group was called the“ cyclists”
Researchers then found 130 people to make up a second group. Within this group,75 people were aged from 57 to 80. The other 55 were between the ages of 20 and 36.The people in this group were also healthy, but they did not exercise regularly. This group was called the “non-exercisers”. Smokers, heavy drinkers of alcohol (酒精) and people with other health issues were not included in the study.
Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. They tested their muscle mass, muscular strength, percentage of body fat and the strength of their immune systems (免疫系统). Then the researchers compared the results of the two groups.
Results showed that the cyclists did not experience body changes usually regarded as a normal aging process. For example, they did not lose muscle mass or muscular strength. Also, their body fat did not increase with age.
The researchers also found something they had not expected. The study showed that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either.
The researchers advise us all to find the exercise that we like in our lives.
12. How did the researchers carry out the study?
A. With imagination.
B. Through discussion.
C. By comparison
D. By reasoning
13. Which of the following is a result of the research?

B. The non-exercisers gained weight easily.
C. The cyclists kept thin.
D. The non-exercisers usually had health problems.
14. Which is an unexpected result for the researchers?
A. The cyclists had the normal aging process
B. The cyclists’ immune systems didn’t age.
C. The cyclists lost nearly all their fat
D. Everyone needed exercise in their lives,
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Healthy People Need More Exercise.
B. Take Exercise, the Harder, the Better
C. Cycling Is the Best Way to Prevent Aging.
D. A Lifetime of Exercise Slows the Aging Process.
【答案】12. C 13. A 14. B 15. D

【解析】
【分析】本文是说明文, 介绍了为什么要徒步旅行的几个原因和给我们带来的好处。
【16题详解】
此题的线索是逻辑关系和词汇复现。第二段首句是此段主题句Hiking is healthy。空前一句hiking is good for your health,空下一句It also offers mental health…中的also表示递进关系。选项C意为:徒步旅行让你保持身体活跃,给你带来身体上的好处,其中physical benefits和mental health benefits相对应。故选C项。
【17题详解】
观察文章结构,可知每一小段的首句为主题句,因此该空应为第三段的主题句。选项A意为:徒步旅行很简单。根据The beauty of hiking is that we can do it naturally and easily. It's easy to stick with hiking中的easily 和easy可知,该段是说“坚持徒步旅行很容易,可以轻松地做到”。故填A项。
【18题详解】
第四小段主题是首句Hiking is cheap。选项D意为:与任何其他运动相比,徒步旅行的费用都很低。the cost of hiking is low和cheap同义。
如本题第1小题,空前一句hiking is good for your health,空下一句It also offers mental health…,其中physical benefits和mental health benefits相对应,可以帮助确定选项。
D选项中the cost of hiking is low和cheap同义, 是同义词复现。

Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have hisbreakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?" Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum," Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I've been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now," he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter. David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!" Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter's was an English-Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. "This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution" confused him. It didn't seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the wordlist. “C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,”he whispered. He had spelledit wrong.
“What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I'm a master in spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I'll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie". Staring at the red sign “100%” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”
