通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

(2)学会用小数表示身高。

教学过程
Step 1 Review
Review the expressions of feelings.
Write sentences about the things that make you feel happy, sad, angry, scared or sick.
At the same time, show the pictures.
Example:
I like to watch TV/… It makes me feel happy/…
I don’t like to run/… It makes me feel tired/…
Step 2 Presentation
1. Teach the new word meter, phrase a bit and expressions “数词+表示单位的名词+ tall” and“How tall…?”using a picture by a conversation.
2. Teach how to read the measurements, and give more examples.
1.85m—one point eight five metres
1.6m—one point six metres
0.95m—zero point nine five metres
Step 3 Practice
T: Make up a new conversation by asking your partner and his/her family members. Like this:
A: I’m… metre(s) tall. How tall are you, B?
B: I’m… metre(s) tall. How tall is your father/…?
A: He/She is...He/She is a bit tall/short.
Step 4 Listening and matching
Show the pictures and make sure the class know their names.(Let’s Do It! No. 1)
T: Who are they? (They’re Bob, Jack, Li Lin and Danny.)
Write their names above the people.
Then play the recording for the class to listen and match the people with their height. Then check them.

Step 5 Practice
Get the class to practice the conversation using the information in Let’s Do It!
No. 1.
A: How tall is…?
B: He’s / She’s... How tall is…?
A: Oh, he’s/she’s…
Step 6 Reading and answering
Get the class to read Part 1 and answer the following questions.
1. Who is a tall man?
2. Who is a bit short?
3. Is Danny 3.1 metres tall?
Answers:1. Bob. 2. Li Lin. 3. No, he isn’t.
Step 7 Listening and reading
1. Let the students read after the recording of Part 1.
2. Check them.
Step 8 Acting and introducing
Get the class to act as Bob, Jack, Li Lin and Danny, and introduce themselves.
e.g. :
I’m/My name is Bob. I’m 1.85 metres tall. I’m a tall man.
Step 9 Presentation
Teach the new words against, tail, flat, ground and upon using the picture.
Step 10 Listening and chanting
1. Read the poem with the whole class, and make sure the class can understand the poem. Explain it if necessary.
2. Play the recording of the poem for the class to listen and chant following it.
Step 11 Exercises
1. Write down the opposite of each word. ( Let’s Do It! No. 2)

2. Let them play a game in groups. The group with more pairs of words like these wins.

Step 13 Language points
1. He’s 1.85 metres tall. 他身高1.85米。
“数词+表示单位的名词+tall/long/wide/deep/...”表示身高/长度/宽度和深度等。
The building is about 50 metres tall. 这座楼约50米高。
The river is 1, 678 metres long. 这条河1 678米长。
Our room is about 6 metres wide. 我们的房间约6米宽。
2. How tall are you? 你多么高?
How tall+be+ sb./sth.? 某人/某物多么高?
用于提问某人的身高或物体的高度。其答语常为:
Sb./Sth.+be+数词+表示单位的名词+tall.
—How tall is your sister? 你妹妹多么高?
—She is 1.53 metres tall. 她1.53米高。
3. She’s a bit short. 她有点儿矮。
a bit 有点儿,稍微
① 修饰形容词或副词
The flower smells a bit sweet. 这花闻起来有点儿香。
Tom comes a bit late. 汤姆来得有点儿晚。
② 修饰比较级
I have a bit more work today.
今天我的工作稍多一点儿。

4. Standing up against the wall. 靠墙站着。
against prep.
