Step 1  Review

1. Homework check.

2. Review the sentence What’s the date today? First, have a conversation between the teacher and the students. And then get the students to ask and answer in pairs.

A: What’s the date today?

B: Today is... 

Step 2  Leading in

1. Ask the class the following questions and get them to think about them.

Questions:

When is your family member’s birthday?

What present do you usually give him /

her on that day?

2. Get some students to give their answers.

Step 3  Presentation

1. Get the students to read the new words July, August, September, October and November aloud by themselves. Then get the students to repeat the words two or three times after the teacher. Make sure they can pronounce them correctly.

July /dʒʊˈlaɪ/ n.       August /ˈɔːɡəst/ n.    September /sepˈtembə/ n.

October /ɒkˈtəʊbə/ n.               November /nəʊˈvembə/ n.

2. Teach the new words seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth by going over the words seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven and twelve. And then teach the word leap.

seven →seventh /ˈsevnθ/ num. 第七

eight →eighth /eɪtθ/ num. 第八

nine →ninth /naɪnθ/ num. 第九

ten →tenth /tenθ/ num. 第十

eleven →eleventh /ɪˈlevnθ/ num. 第十一

Step 11  Language points

1. I’m making a birthday present for my grandfather.

我正在为我的祖父制作一个生日礼物。

 make sth. for sb.相当于make sb. sth.，意为“为某人制作某物”。

　My mother usually makes a birthday cake for me on my birthday.

  在我生日那天，我母亲通常为我做一个生日蛋糕。

2. When is his birthday? 他的生日在什么时候？

　when副词，意为“什么时候”，用来引导特殊疑问句，提问时间。

　—When is your father’s birthday?你父亲的生日是什么时候？

  —It’s on December 11.在12月11日。

　—When do you usually go to school?你通常什么时候去上学？

  —I go to school at about 7:30 in the morning.我早上大约七点半去上学。

[注意]

when和what time都可以询问时间，区别在于：when既可以询问具体的钟点，也可以询问不太具体的时间，而what time则询问具体的钟点。

　What time is it? 现在几点了？

　When / What time do you get up? 你什么时候起床？

3. My mother enjoys reading very much.我母亲非常喜欢读书。

  enjoy及物动词，意为“喜欢”，后面可接名词、代词或动名词作宾语。

enjoy doing sth.表示“喜欢做某事”。

　My sister enjoys music. 我姐姐喜欢音乐。

　Wang Daming enjoys playing basketball a lot.王大明非常喜欢打篮球。

　[拓展]

　enjoy oneself表示“玩得开心，过得愉快”，相当于have a good time。

　I enjoy myself at the weekend. 在周末我过得很愉快。
