Step 1 Warming-up
1. Look and learn.
结合频率副词的练习,让学生看句子更多地了解英美生日习俗。
2. Free talk
If you are going to have a birthday party, how will you plan it?
设计意图:既复习了频率副词的用法,通过话题讨论也为下面的阅读做了准备。
Step 2 Presentation
Learn the grammar—the adverb of frequency.
Step 3 Practice
1. Do the grammar exercises and check the answers together.
2. Read the short passage in Around the world and answer the two questions.
What will people choose as birthday presents for children?
What will the children do when they get presents?
3. Ss work in groups of four and talk about the different customs about birthday in China and the UK / US.
设计意图:引导学生学会自主学习、合作学习、探究学习。
Step 4 Production
Activity 6
1. Write “birthdays” on the board, then “things to do”, “place to go” and “food”. Tell Ss to brainstorm ideas and make a list about it.
2. Elicit possible questions for them to ask to find out about their partner. Then Ss work in pairs and ask and answer about each other’s birthday party.
3. Invite some Ss to make a report about what their partner always / usually / sometimes / often / never does on their birthday party.
Activity 7
1. Ss ask their partner questions to find out what type of party they like, and what they like to do. Use the instructions as a guide:
Choose the time and place.
Choose the food.
Choose what to do.
2. Ss make notes about the party they plan.
Activity 8
1. Ss work in groups of four and each one tells their group about their partner: when his / her birthday is; what they are going to do, eat and do. The others have to guess who it is.
2. T invites some Ss to demonstrate in front of the whole class. They should not say who their partner is and ask the class to guess.
设计意图:学生通过合作交流的方式,共同完成活动6-8,是对学生合作学习策略的培养,同时较好地化解了本课的教学难点。
