Look at picture A. Discuss with your partner. What do you see in the picture? How would you describe the boy on the left and the boy on the right? What lesson do you think the picture is trying to teach us? You are going to write an essay to describe a picture. Look at picture A. Discuss with your partner.I see two boys: one is focused on the loss and the other is focused on what is left. People always hold different attitudes towards things. It is us who decide our attitude and the result. Writing Workshop Look at picture B below and read the essay. From the writer’s point of view, what is the man’s personality? What lesson is the picture trying to teach? When I first look at this picture, it seems to be just a pretty simple drawing of a man in a garden. However, when looking at it more closely, I see something interesting. In the picture, a man is wearing a hat and an apron, and is carrying an umbrella because it is raining heavily. He has his back turned to us. We can see he is in his garden, for he is watering the flowers with a watering can. The drawing is entitled “It’s Time to Water the Flowers”.This implies that this man obviously loves routines (and his flowers), and probably waters his flowers every day at the same time. He is doing this even though it is raining heavily. However, the plants don’t need the extra water he is providing. He is not seeing the obvious, but isjust going through the motions without thinking. The overall message we can take from this picture is that it is important to have routinesand timetables, as they can help us stay organised, but sometimes routines can control us,rather than us controlling the routines. It is important not to become too preoccupied withroutines and schedules, because they can make us blind to what is in front of us. Sometimeswe need to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances.Writing Workshop Look at picture B below and read the essay. From the writer’s point of view, what is the man’s personality? It is a system of education for children that seeks to develop natural interests and activities rather than use formal teaching methods. It emphasizes independence and views children as naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a sufficiently supportive and well-prepared learning environment. What is Montessori Education?Viewing Workshop Viewing WorkshopLook at the pictures taken in two different schools. What are the differences? Which one do you like? Why? What stages of education can the Montessori Method be applied on? What does Rob mean by “If we give children active toys, then we end up with passive children”?In the UK, most Montessori schools are pre-school, and there are some primary schools. But in America and in other parts of the world, there are Montessori secondary schools that go all the way through to 18.Active toys stop children to create by themselves and children would be passive.Passive toys give children space to be active, and that leads to active children.Viewing Workshop What are the advantages of Montessori education?
