On July 14, 2017, Maryam Mirzakhani, Stanfrd prfessr f mathematics and the first female winner f the Fields Medal in Mathematics, died at the age f 40.

Maryam riginally wanted t be a writer, a passin f hers that never faded away even during her pstgraduate studies. Hwever, she fund an even greater jy in hw rewarding it felt t slve mathematical prblems. As a student, she was the first female member f Iran's natinal team t participate in the Internatinal Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), and she wn tw gld medals in tw years, which is still a recrd.
She received her bachelr's degree in Iran and later studied at Harvard. In 2014, Maryam was recgnized with the Fields Medal, the highestranking award in mathematics. Her wrk fcused n curved surfaces like spheres (球体). Her achievements have applicatins in ther scientific fields including engineering and material science. Unfrtunately, at that time she was already tackling the breast cancer.
