Grammar time and Fun time of 5B Unit 1 Cinderella
Teaching aims:
1. Enable students to use the third person singular form of the verb to talk about the characters in the story.
2. Enable students to grasp the usage of “why”, and apply what they learned to finish the fairy story in Fun time and act out the story.
3. Enable the students to ask more wh- questions, and learned to think in daily life.
Teaching difficulties:
1. Students can use “why” and other wh- question words correctly.
2. Students can what they learned to act Fun time vividly.
3. Students can ask more wh- questions in daily life.
Teaching aids: PPT, word cards
Teaching procedure:
Step1. Lead in
1. Play a short film about Cinderella.
2. Talk about the characters in the film.
T: Who do you like? Why?
Step2. Presentation (Grammar time and Cartoon time)
- Talk about Cinderella. Show the picture of Cinderella and the fairy. Ask the students to work in pairs and discuss what they are talking about.
Why are you so sad? Because I can’t go to the party.
Why can’t you go to the party?
Because I don’t have any nice clothes or shoes.
2, Grammar time
Read the sentences on P9.
Ask the students how to use why to ask questions. Encourage them to work out the rule.
3, Practice. Show the students some pictures about Cinderella in the film to the students, ask them to use “why” and “because” to ask and answer.
4, Fun time
(1) Ask the students to look at the pictures on P10, work in pairs and complete the dialogue.
(2) Ask the students to read the dialogue in the book. Encourage to give different answers.
eg. S1: Why can’t I go to the party?
S2: Because you have to do the housework.
S3: Because you don’t have any nice clothes or shoes.
S4: Because you are ugly.
(3) Encourage the students to use their imagination and add more “why” and “because” to the dialogue.
5, Show time
Encourage the students to work in groups, choose a picture and create a new play to act.
6, Question words
(1) Ask the students to say question words.
why, where, who, whose, what, when, how…
(2) T: With these question words, we can ask a lot of questions. Ms Zhang writes a new story about Cinderella. In the story, Cinderella has a lot of questions. Do you want to have a look?
Step 3: Consolidation
Picture 1, Cinderella wants to go to the party, but she can’t find her way, because the air is so dirty.
Picture2, Cinderella goes to the party, but she is very surprised, because the prince is so fat.
What are Cinderella’s questions?
Encourage the students to ask questions with the question words.
Step3, Consolidation
1, The more questions we ask, the more we get.
2, Show the students some pictures about people’s questions, encourage the students to ask questions in daily life.
3, Work in groups and write down your own questions.
4, Ask some groups to come to the blackboard and share their questions.
5, Encourage the students to develop independent thinking. “Be curious, ask questions, and try to find the answers in our life.”
Step 4 Homework
- Surf the Internet, try to find the answers to your questions.
