英文诗歌:诗歌是一种文学形式。它通过有节奏、韵律的语言反应生活、抒发感情。从现代英文诗歌韵脚特征上看,可以分为有韵脚诗和无韵脚诗两类。有韵脚诗往往两行压一元音韵脚,读来有较强的节奏感。无韵脚诗不强调行尾韵脚,无需考虑押韵的问题,且每行长短有别,因此节拍性不如有韵脚诗那么强;但是无韵脚诗并非毫无节奏,它往往通过相同的语句结构和反复重复的元、辅音发音进行弥补,令人读来别有一番情趣。以本单元Mom Knows Best为例,在这一无押韵诗中,我们读到大量的When…, I should be allowed to…和I …语句,我们耳畔不停地响起“I”音和“s(z)”音。这些语句结构和语音特点衬托出诗歌的复现性,加之各行自身的语句重音,体现了节奏感,弥补了失缺韵脚的不足。
