Unit2 Travelling Around词汇句型教案

Teaching aims:

1.Enable students to master the usage of such important words and expressions as reason,unique,other than,besides,contact etc;learn to express yourself by using them.

2.Guide students to learn the method of constructing knowledge trees through self-study & cooperative exploration.

3.Help students to enjoy the fun of expressing yourself using English and participate in class with passion.

Teaching key and difficult points:

1.Help students to learn the following:reason, unique, other than, besides, contact.

2.Exercises are expected to assist students to express themselves freely in English.

3.How to use the words and phrases in real situations.

Teaching procedures:

StepⅠSelf-directed study

T:In this class we will learn the important words and expressions in this unit. First, it’s self-study time. Please observe the example sentences in the sheet and try to find out the meaning or usage of the underlined words or phrases by referring to the dictionary or reference books. Make a mark where you can’t understand. Then,15 minutes later, we’ll see who is the best self-learner. Please begin now（15minutes）

1.【教材原句】It is for this reason that Spanish is the main official language of Peru. 

正因为如此,西班牙语是秘鲁主要的官方语言。

【句型】这是一个强调句。强调句的结构为“It is/was+被强调部分+that(强调主语是人时也可以用who)+句子剩余部分”。 

【词块】for this reason由于这个原因

His mother was ill.And for this reason,he was late for school yesterday.

他妈妈病了。由于这个原因,他昨天上学迟到了。

He was late for school yesterday.The reason for that was that his mother was ill.

他昨天上学迟到了。因为他妈妈病了。

b.Reasoning(reason) with them is a waste of time. 

2.【教材原句】You can then spend three days exploring the rainforest with a local guide and enjoying the plants and animals unique to the rainforest. 

在接下来的三天里,您可以在当地导游的陪同下,深入雨林进行探索,欣赏雨林特有的动植物。

【句型】unique to the rainforest 是形容词短语作后置定语,修饰the plants and animals。 

【词块】spend time/money (in) doing sth.花时间/金钱干某事 

unique to sth.对……来说是独特的 

观察思考

He gave me a book interesting to me.

=He gave me a book which is interesting to me.

他给了我一本对我来说很有趣的书。

The students worried about the exams are working their heads off.

=The students who are worried about the exams are working their heads off.

担心考试的学生们忙得晕头转向。

归纳总结

英语中,形容词短语作定语需要位于被修饰的名词之后,可以转换成定语从句。

(1)The leaders present at the meeting totaled 8.(改写成定语从句)

The leaders who were present at the meeting totaled 8.

(2)她有一颗价值四千法郎的钻石。

She owns a diamond (which is) worth 4000 francs.

3.【教材原句】Especially amazing is the Inca?s dry stone method of building. 

尤其令人称奇的是印加人的干石建筑法。

【句型】这是一个倒装结构,因语篇衔接和语义需要而使用,表语especially amazing 前置是为了突出和强调。 

观察思考

Higher up was an old castle where a king once lived.

=An old castle where a king once lived was higher up.

再往高处去就是一座旧城堡,一位国王曾在此居住。

归纳总结

在一个主系表结构中,若主语是名词,则可以将表语提前构成一个全部倒装结构。

(1)   挂在墙上的是一幅很好看的画。

Hanging on the wall is a nice picture.

(2)拴在树上的是一只可怜的猴子。

Tied to the tree is a poor monkey.

4.【教材原句】Inca builders cut stones to exact sizes so that nothing was needed to hold walls together other than the perfect fit of the stones. 

印加的建筑工人将石头切割成精确的尺寸,仅仅凭着石头间的完美契合,即可稳固墙体。

【词块】other than 除了

观察思考

There is nobody here other than the teacher.

这里除老师外再无别人了。

The form cannot be signed by anyone other than yourself.

该表除了你本人,别人不能代签。

归纳总结

other than“除了(不包括在内)”,相当于except。besides也是“除了”的意思,但往往是包括在内。试比较: 

Last night all the other students went to the cinema besides Tom.

昨天晚上除了汤姆其他学生也去看电影了。(汤姆也去看电影了,包括在内)

All are present except/other than Helen.

除海伦外, 大家都到了。(海伦未到,不包括在内)

(1)He usually goes to work on his bike except　on rainy days. 

(2)Two others were on duty besides Helen. 

5.【教材原句】 Enjoy the beautiful countryside as you spend a day driving along the new highway connecting Cusco to Lake Titicaca. 

沿着连接库斯科和的的喀喀湖的新建公路,驱车行驶一日,全程饱览乡村美景。

【句型】connecting Cusco to Lake Titicaca是动词-ing形式短语作后置定语。 

观察思考

The workers working in the company are well-paid.

=The workers who work in the company are well-paid.

这家公司的员工收入很高。

Make less noise.There’s a sleeping child.

不要出太大的声音,有个孩子在睡觉。

归纳总结

动词-ing形式短语作定语,指的是该分词与所修饰的名词间构成逻辑上的

主动关系,如这里的highway和connecting 是主动关系,故用动词-ing形式。 单个的动词-ing形式作定语要前置 (如a sleeping child),动词-ing形式短语作定语要后置 ,可以改写成定语从句。

(2)The young man sitting(sit) between John and Mary is the editor of the campus newspaper.
