The COVID - 19 pandemic has changed life as we knew it just a few weeks ago. Millions of people worldwide are now under required or voluntary lockdowns. All public attractions, including museums and aquariums, are closed, and the usually crowded streets of popular tourist destinations are empty. An unexpected silver lining during these challenging times for humans is that many animals are finally getting a chance to leave their normal habitats and move about freely.
The first animals to take advantage of human absence were Annie and Edward, two penguins who live at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. A video released on March 15th, 2020 showed the couple eagerly duckwalking around, exploring the aquarium’s various exhibits. The video, which instantly became popular, inspired other institutions to share short videos of their four-legged creatures playing as well.
The Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio joined the fan trend on March 16, 2020, with a “Home Safari” live- stream series — the first starring its adorable baby panda, Fiona. “Let us help make your children’s hiatus from school fun and educational,” zoo officials announced. “Join us for a Home Safari Online Live each weekday at 3 pm, where we will highlight one of our amazing animals and include an activity you can do from home.”
Meanwhile, the San Diego Safari Park has kept their webcams rolling, allowing fens to enjoy lovable animals without leaving home. Animals in the wild are also lively as humans stay indoors. The absence of cruise ships is bringing large numbers of dolphins to a port in Cagliari, while groups of wild turkeys arc happily walking on the streets of Oakland.
Though the animals indeed appear to be having a good time, the heartwarming videos and images shared on social media, are also bringing much - needed cheer to millions of humans worldwide. Stay strong and healthy! We are all in this together!
21.What changes has the COVID-19 pandemic caused to the zoo animals?
A.They are now under required or voluntary lockdowns.
B.They can enjoy a free life without tourists’ disturbance.
C.They will be faced with unexpected existing challenges.
D.They get a chance to wander about freely in the wild.
22.What does the underlined word “hiatus” in Paragraph 3 mean?

A new video involving John Cena is popular, but it isn't of the popular wrestlercompeting with another wrestler. No, it's 9-year-old Benjamin Russo creating a huge portrait of Cena with 750 Rubik's Cubes.
The video starts with Benjamin holding up a series of cards, in which he explains he has dyslexia and struggles with reading and writing. “I mix up my words. I get very upset sometimes,” the cards read. “But having dyslexia also means I can do something amazing! Like this...”. The video then shows Benjamin putting hundreds of Rubik's Cubes into specific places. In the end, all 750 cubes have been arranged and the patterns come together to show a portrait of Cena. Then, Benjamin lifts up two more cards. They read: “Dyslexia is not my disability. Dyslexia is my superpower.”
Benjamin's amazing talent caught the attention of Cena. “This young boy is proving to people that anything is possible—no matter what your learning disorder is,” Cena wrote online. “Benjamin shows up courage, determination, strength...and he's an artist!” Cena even called Benjamin “a hero of mine.”
Unfortunately, the family can't buy 750 Rubik's Cubes every time Benjamin takes on a new project. However, he has already completed his next one—it's none other than Keanu Reeves.
Benjamin's parents hope his story will change how people see dyslexia. “The general public sees dyslexia basically as flipping words around, and that's where it ends,” Louis, his father, said. “We never talk about the advantages and the special gifts that many dyslexics have, and Benjamin is not alone. So I think that's what we're trying to do: get the positives out there and leave the negatives behind.”
24.What worries Benjamin according to the video?
A.He can't speak out at school. B.He is uninterested in writing.
    C.He has difficulty in learning. D.He can't solve a Rubik's Cube.
25.How does Benjamin look at his dyslexia?
A.It hides his gift and intelligence. B.It has turned into an advantage.
C.It has helped him behave well at school. D.It makes him embarrassed to speak in public.
26.What was Cena's attitude to Benjamin?
A.He doubted Benjamin's ability. B.He gave Benjamin plenty of praise.
C.He had mixed feelings about Benjamin. D.He expressed his thanks to Benjamin.
27.What do Benjamin's parents make an effort to do?
A.Discover Benjamin's special talent. B.Get economic support from the public.
C.Change public opinion of dyslexia. D.Buy 750 Rubik's Cubes for Benjamin.
    C
In many ways, Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle is a typical senior living community. It is home to about 400 elderly people and provides them with different types of assistance. However, it is also the Inter-generational Learning Center---a preschool where children and seniors have the chance to bond(结成友好的关系).
Established in 1991, the ILC’s purpose is to allow kids to learn about acceptance while also being nurtured. It also aims to help seniors develop a greater sense of self-worth and strengthen social interactions. Babies to prekindergarten-aged children are placed into six different classes at the ILC.The kids attend art and music classes, as well as story time and exercise time with the seniors. Marie Hoover, ILC director, said that interacting with the seniors has proven beneficial for the young ones, making them more open-minded.
“For the ILC children, interacting with the residents is simply part of their day-to-day life here and the way aging is ‘normalized’ , which may be the most important benefit they receive ,” Hoover said. “ I’ve had parents call me years after their children have graduated from our program to let me know about some incidents when their child was the first to warmly greet someone who happened to be in a wheelchair.”
As for the seniors, they’re delighted by the companionship the children provide. The children bring so much energy and joy to our residents. Many of residents are widows or widowers and can become lonely. Their adult children may still be working, so they may not get to see them as often as they would like. Having the children stay with the old makes our residents feel they are still part of a community. The young and the old connect and learn from one another at this unique facility.

The better part I enjoyed was to wander through the grass field, breathe fresh air and to pick branches of sweet wild flowers. 参考答案
    1.C
【原文】W: I’ve got some of their music on my phone. This is one of their songs. Here, listen!
M: No, thanks. I’ve heard enough of their songs already.
    2.C
【原文】W: Do you think you can take care of everything in the office today?
M: No problem. Just go home and take a rest. If there is anything I feel I cannot handle, I’ll call you.
    3.C
【原文】M: Do you keep anything ready for the emergencies?
W: Let me think. I have a flashlight, gloves, and um…, some towels in my backpack.
    M: What about water?
    W: I don’t, but I know I should.
    4.A
【原文】M: Oh, what a surprise! It’s so good to see you. How have you been?
    W: Ah, hello…
M: Don’t you remember? I’m Travis, from New York.
W: I think you may be mistaken.
    5.B
【原文】M: Your lunch looks good. It has strawberries.
W: Do you want one? I’ll trade a strawberry for one of your sausages.
    M: That would be nice.
    6.B
    7.A
【原文】W: We're planning a trip for right after we graduate, and I'm asking everybody where they would like to go most. Any thoughts?
M: I've always wanted to go somewhere hot like Hawaii. I'd love to just lie on the beach, have a drink…just relax, although I suppose that staying in one place might get boring after a while. How about a trip through Europe?
W: You're not the first person to say that. To be honest, I kind of agree with you. If we were to go to the Bahamas, say, I wouldn't complain. But Europe sounds more attractive.
M: Well, as it happens, I spoke with a bunch of our friends last night. All of them began by saying the same thing we did about beaches and stuff. In the end, everyone agreed that they’d rather have a more diverse experience.
W: Well, I think we have our destination. Now we just need to get our plane tickets.
M: Hold your horses (别忙,耐心点). We need to calculate the cost first.
    8.B
    9.B
【原文】M: We've just moved into a new house.
    W: Really? Congratulations!
M: Thank you, so we want to buy a new television set.
W: What kind of television set do you want to buy?
M: A color TV set, of course, but I’m not sure about the size. Maybe we should buy a big one. What's your opinion?
W: In my opinion, I don't think it's necessary to buy a very big one.
    M: Any reason?
W: Yes. As I know, your sitting room isn't very big. If you put a very big television in the room, it will be bad for your eyes, and a small TV set can still pick up good programs.
M: Mm, that's quite sure. I'll think about it.
    10.C
    11.B
    12.A
【原文】M: Look, there are some nice shoes right here. They look comfortable.
W: Pink is for little girls.
M: Well, what about these ones? They’re black — certainly not for little girls. They are only 10 dollars.
    W: Those are for boys!
M: Well, which ones do you want?
W: Oh, these white ones are perfect! They’re just like the ones Blair wore at the airport last week.
M: Sarah! They cost 75 dollars. You can buy five pairs of the pink ones with the money. Listen, choose one pair for less than 20 dollars, or you can just keep wearing your old shoes.
W: I would rather wear my old shoes than wear those ugly things.
M: Fine. Keep your old shoes, then. If you want these ones, you can get a job and pay for them yourself.
W: I will. And you can explain to my mum why I don’t have any new shoes.
    M: Good. Let’s go then.

【原文】W: Professor Hopkins. May I have a word with you?
    M: Sure, Meg. What's up?
W: I got a C for my report. I am wondering what I have done wrong. You know I have put a lot of time and energy to the report.
    M. Well. Meg. I understand you have made much effort on the report. Maybe that's why you are two days late to hand in the report. The due day is September 3rd.
W: Yes, Professor. I am sorry about that.
M: And this report is about the success of the Starbucks Coffee. In your report, you have mentioned the company's management, selections of stores and service. But I am surprised that you didn't mention anything about its coffee. It's a coffee shop, Meg. Isn’t the taste of its coffee the most important thing to its success?
W: Yeah, I guess I have made a mistake by leaving it out.
M: And figures are important too. You also need to add an actual figure such as the monthly sales.
W: You are quite right. Professor.
M: And why not do more research, look for some figures and write the report again?
W: Are you giving me another chance, Professor?
    M. Seems like I am.
    Questions:
    17. When did Meg hand in the report?
    18. What is the most important to Starbucks success according to the Professor?
    19. What does the professor advise Meg to do?
    20. What is the intention of Meg to talk with the Professor?

【原文】M: Our home here is fairly large. We have four bedrooms, an office, two bathrooms, a front room and a dining room. We do a lot of things around the house. We garden quite a bit, walk in our garden, and play basketball on the basketball court. Usually on Saturday afternoon, we have a barbecue and that’s our meal because during the summer it gets pretty hot here and sometimes you just want to be outside rather than be inside. In California you really have two seasons from our entertainment point of view-spring, summer and fall are all very much the same type of activities and then winter is very different on the activities that we do on the weekend. Summertime activities are usually involved around the children's sports. My youngest son often plays baseball in summer.

根据上文提示“While our mental health may be fine right now, many of us will struggle at some point.”(虽然我们的心理健康现在可能很好,但我们中的许多人都会在某种情况下挣扎)和下文“It’s impossible to get through life without challenges, but our mental health prevention habits can help us get through difficult times.”(生活中不可能没有挑战,但是我们的心理健康预防习惯可以帮助我们度过困难时期)可知,在生活中挑战使无处不在,因而空白处起承接上下文的作用。C项“Stresses, disappointments and disasters happen.”(压力、失望和灾难总会发生)与文意相符,故选C。

Getting up early is a good habit. It is of great importance to our health, our study and our life. First, it can help us to keep fit and strong. We can improve our health by doing morning exercises, walking, running in the open air. Second, getting up early and reading aloud can help memorize what we have learned easily. Third, if we get up early, we don’t need to be in a hurry to go to school or work without having breakfast. So we’ll have a very good mood all day. If we stick to it, it will benefit us a lot, especially in our character-building.
